  • This video demonstrates installing Distributed File System (DFS) on two servers, creating a namespace, creating shared folders, and setting up a replication group to synchronize data between two servers. This can be used to preserve WAN bandwidth, offer fault tolerance, and balance client load between two servers.

    Thank you for this Patrick! I have 3 sites that I needed this setup for. Just finished configuring all this up. Just waiting on the replication to begin before we remove the individual mapped drives to the server and roll out the domain share.

    • @PatrickHornung
      @PatrickHornung  4 года назад +1

      Yes. When Server1 comes back online, it will synchronize the files and folders as soon as possible. The synchronization is a two-way synchronization, so it doesn't matter which server has a change - both servers will end up with the same files.

    Hi, nice video however i have few questions if you can answer.
    Serve1 was primary server, if we will make any changes from server2 will the changes will be replicated. in case we have multiple servers and primary goes down.
    Have you uploaded more videos of DFSR, i.e reporting, backlogs, troubleshooting related. If yes, please share link. Thanks

    • @PatrickHornung
      @PatrickHornung  2 года назад

      Yes, you can do that if you map your users' drives using the \\domain
      amespace\share format. If you use \\server
      amespace\share then they will lose their mappings.

    Love this video.
    Very well done on all levels.
    Have a question for you.
    I am going to do this on a web server, so, working with the InetPub\wwwroot folder
    Would this be the route to go, in order to copy over all data that has changed between the servers?
    (I am learning all this, so it is all being done on an Intel Test Server with VMware, running many Virtual machines, on one system. This summer, this will all become a reality with new servers, but right now, I am just trying to learn as much as possible to make sure I am fully prepared and ready for the task, for when the new Dell servers arrive.
    I am looking at having, at the last, 3 physical servers, with about 4 VM web servers per machine, so, I will always have a backup somewhere, within the mix of systems, in case one of the 3-servers goes down, there will be another server there to take its place in the pool.)
    So, any information and advice, helpful links, or more of your excellent videos, will be very appreciated.)
    Wayne
