  • Y'all I was 100% CONVINCED I had hit my limit with the number of hydrangeas in my garden. That was before I came across a gorgeous Pop Star Hydrangea at my garden center... a beautiful lace cap baby with the Endless Summer name this little girl immediately drew my eye. I had a hard time finding information on her though because SHE'S NEW FOR THE SUMMER! I'm so excited to try this little gal especially because her bigger sister (the Twist and Shout Lace Cap Hydrangea by Endless Summer) is my absolute favorite hydrangea in my entire garden. This little Pop Star Hydrangea can be planted in zones 4-9 and will grow anywhere from 18 to 36 inches.
Let's get this planted and then I'll give you a tour of my Endless Summer collection as they look now and with footage of them in full bloom last summer. I have 2 Bloomstruck Hydrangeas, 2 Summer Crush Hydrangeas, 4 Original Blue Hydrangeas and a glorious Twist and Shout Hydrangea so get ready for blooms!

I just got one today I ordered it in a two gallon it’s a huge plant full of buds it is about 18in tall without the pot and very bushy. I’m between zone 8b- 9a our sun here in central Texas is brutal soooo I will start placing it in different locations to see where it will acclimate without damage. I have 30 year old live oak trees in my back yard with borders it would be perfect there but I’m worried the tree roots will interfere with the hydrangea roots…

I'm so glad you liked the video! Finding one is so exciting! We went to a different store today to try and find one for my Mom's garden and all of the Pop Star's at the other nursery were baby pink like the twist and shout... so they are definitely ph dependent like most hydrangeas. It will be fun to see what they look like after a while in the ground!

Endless Summer is amazing. I have a traditional variety next to Endless Summer, the regular never bloom! Endless summer always blooms and the blooms are huge! 3 rd year they hold up better to heat. Years 1 and 2 they dropped often. They get morning sun and at noon they are in shade the rest of the day.

Yes! It’s the third summer for my bigger bloom struck and twist and shout and they did so much better. I can’t wait to see how everything else does over the years… sounds like yours are beautiful

Thank you so much for the video. I am living in Europe, I bought hydrangea twist and shout last season. And for the first time today I found out about hydrangea pop star. So I was trying to see if it’s the same thing as twist & shout ( may be the ph of the soil gave it the blue, purple colour? And here you are with a good explanation. Thank you once again. My favourite hydrangea are 1. Runaway Bride, followed by 2. Twist and shout. 3. Blueberries cheesecake. Then the peniculatas

Have you tried PW Let’s Dance series ? I’m in zone 8a and looking for a mop head hydrangea with deep blue color. Thanks

I have not... I love proven winners but have never tried any of their hydrangeas. I've never even seen one which isn't super telling as I live in a small town and our garden centers only get so many proven winners plants but I have no experience with them. I will say that every bit of experience I have with hydrangeas as a whole says that regardless of how "blue" a hydrangea is promoted to be it is dependent on how acidic your soil is... and they need a lot of amendments if your soil is not acidic enough. Some hydrangeas do that better than others (perhaps Let's Dance is one of them) my Mom's original Endless Summer hydrangeas say have blooms that lean more towards the blue... but if she does not amend her soil every spring her blooms still start to turn pink. Just something to keep that in mind if you're looking for blue blooms.

@@Happilyeverafteretc I just find PW shrubs thrive better. Which of the Endless series is best for reblooming and stays compact?

@@yume816I love proven winners but I've never seen their hydrangeas for sale around here. Endless Summer hydrangeas do so well in our heat and humidity that I tend to stick with them for hydrangeas. Summer Crush is a small one that blooms mop head blooms all summer and this Pop Star is a small lace cap that blooms all summer... I haven't tried to turn either blue as I LOVE the pink. Good luck!

Can the pop star hydrangea be planted in a mostly shaded area with a little morning sun? I live in zone 6a.

    • @Happilyeverafteretc

Morning sun is up to 6 hours of sun with afternoon shade, they’ll do ok with less sun than that but they won’t bloom as much. Good luck!
