Can't say I ever imagined Carbo would make it into the HOF but his contributions to the amazing '93 Habs Cup run spurred a love for the game in me and helped create many fond memories. For that I am grateful.

I can't believe all the negative comments! You know sometimes some people can have great stats but they don't come through in the clutch! If you watch football why don't you watch Dan Marino, he put up great numbers but never won the big one! Tony Romo was a football genius and put up great numbers, but he never won the big one. I have a great respect for Guy he came through in the clutch when the Dallas Stars needed him. He came through in the clutch when the Canadians needed him. Evidently y'all don't watch much hockey hockey is not only about scoring but it's also about great defense, checking, and on the rink experience. I think it's absolutely wonderful the Hall of Fame recognized him for his efforts!

Unfortunately, most of these negative commenters are what I would call surface level hockey fans. They see a goal, they cheer. To them, scoring stats are everything. They don’t understand that defense is just as important. Carbs (I used to have trouble with French names so that’s what I called him) was one of the best defensive forwards and whenever I watched the 90s hockey games he always dazzled me with his penalty killing. Probably my favorite defensive forward

What's sad is that in the free wheeling 80s, when offence was everything, Guy Charbonneau was still recognized for his contributions to a winning hockey team. The guy maxed out at 26 goals and 56 points in the late 80s and people still saw him as one of if not the best defensive forward of his generation. These days, you have to score at least that much AND have won a Selke before to win it again. Otherwise, you have to have a breakout offensive season. Charbonneau would be forgotten if he'd played in the 2000s. You shouldn't have to score goals and points to win a DEFENSIVE award and you shouldn't have to score a lot of points to be in the Hall. The Hall of Fame should be about your overall contribution to the game, whether that be defensive or offensive. Selke's should be going to 3rd line shutdown players, not 2 way forwards who happen to be decent defensively. Otherwise, change the description of the award. I'm guessing the only reason Guy is in the Hall is because of those 3 Stanley Cups. Otherwise, his defensive prowess wouldn't have been recognized. I remember as a kid not wanting to watch the Canucks play the Habs. Not because of Roy or Bellows or Savard or LeClair necessarily, but because of Guy. We had Pavel, but it could potentially be a long night for him, because if anyone could stop the Russian Rocket, it was Charbonneau.

So happy he made it in...impact-wise in a game, a star in his own right in his prime (MTL)...a master at sliding feet-first and blocking point shots...was getting standing ovations for killing penalties...would take the best offensive weapon(s) of the opponent out of the scoring...while popping 20+ year himself (always beauties!)...in the great tradition of the "Flying Frenchmen"!

Not to mention his uncanny faceoff ability, especially in the d-zone. Probably top 3 all-time.

I'm new to hockey history, but why did it take so long to induct Carbonneau? I'm not complaining, I'm hoping a Habs expert will tell me.
His career seems a lot like Gainey. Both Montreal Canadiens who won multiple Selke awards.
Gainey has been to All-Star games (I'm guessing Carbonneau has as well but no data yet) and has won the Conn Smythe (although some say that was one of the lesser picks in history).
But other than that, why was Gainey inducted into the HOF right after the 3 year minimum waiting period but Carbonneau had to wait 19?
I'm not complaining, I'm just curious.

As a Habs fan I would have never seen their 24th Stanley Cup win because it was Guy who rallied his team and in the finals tamed Gretzky. Have his jersey and loved watching him play. One of the unknown greats of hockey.

If it weren't for that illegal stick call from Demers, your sorry Habs would have lost the finals in '93. Fuck the Montreal Canadiens and Fuck Guy and Roy!

One of the elite 200-foot centres and one of best faceoff guys in NHL history. People who don't understand his impact don't really understand hockey.

Teemu Selanne is not the one in the Hall of Fame, I don't think why. For comparison, Pavel Bure is there. Which of them has more points overall and more NHL games played? Teemu. Yet he is not in the Hall of Fame. Sellanne holds a rookie point record I think. 132 points if memory doesn't fool me. This is still a valid record I have the impression, but even this was not enough to bring to the Hall of Fame?
