This video is great. Finally a fruit tree pruning video that doesn't make you feel stupid. I just purchased land with fruit trees on it and I'll watch it as often as necessary. Thank you .
i think folks try to scare you and bamfoozle you with big terms and warnings , to maybe feel superior or that they are smarter than you . time.. is the only experience and goin back on yer work year in year out for many years.
The main thing is, was the customer happy! Was there tea and cookies after your were done. It would be nice to see that tree next year at the same time with comparable pictures. Like some else said, what ever you are doing, I am here to watch and like. A little life talk is nice too!
Pruning Fruit trees is actually healthy and beneficial for the life of the trees . There are very very very rare that any tree doesn't benefit from being pruned .
The trees love to be cut! Just not at the stem...well most of em anyways. Neighbor chopped a 70 year old Arbutus right at the butt and man you should see the vigor it came back with
I had some older friends that had a 40 ft cherry tree. They said that it was too tall to pick the cherries. I cut it down to a 6 ft stump. They were were concerned and questioned why I cut it so low and now it was only a stump.. I told them well you will not get any cherries on it this year.. but next year you will.. and it will have a whole new slew of branches to pick cherries from... It filled out beautifully that year with about 5 new strong branches, and the next year all those branches bore fruit. They had so many cherries they didn't know what to do with them. It was loaded... and the next year even more... all at pick able height. They asked me to do the same to this large apple tree.. but I did not cut the tree into a 6' stump like I did the cherry tree... different animal. But I did cut off all the water sprouts & cut all the crossed branches & cut the tips off all the new growth back to 5 leaves/buds so those buds would all bear fruit... They did.. had them thin the apples to 2 per cluster, the king apple and the next biggest, and some clusters just to the king apple. They could not believe how big the apples got. They had me prune every year ad every year they gave be a box of huge apples. This year I had to cut my pear tree off nearly at the ground, because something destroyed the lower half of the trunk almost half way around the circumference. Don't know of it was an animal.. my riding lawn mower.. sunscald from the 2pm winter sun hitting a frozen trunk.. I know it had some of that. But I let 2 new branches come up from below the damage and cut back the tree to just a 7ft trunk so those new branches would get some sun.. They developed nicely and I fill a 55gallon barrel of water right next to the trunks of those 2 so the sun would not hit the trunks last winter.. worked great. Now I got to get out there before the sap pushes too much and cut that old damaged trunk off just above where the new trunks are. They are feathered pretty good and will spread them and train they apart. Not sure if they will bear fruit this year because sometime those pears need a couple years to bear on new wood instead of 1 like most other fruit trees do. But boy that tree bore some of the biggest and best tasting Bartlett pear... hope that tree works out after the reconfiguration..
I absolutely love this type of content!! You got me hooked with axes, I stayed for the climbing and falling, and this new type of content is amazing as well!!!
I did a probably insufficient prune on my apple tree that has never produced (under shade from other trees). It got flowers this spring so we will see. But we let it go for too long and it has 3 vertical shoots that are like 20 feet tall. I'm thinking about cutting the 2 less dominant shoots way back or completely off, and maybe topping the dominant shoot. It is far too vertical, but I definitely don't want to kill it.
From the perspective of a guy newly out on his own starting a tree service I LOVE seeing videos like this. I find it so valuable when you talk about your business and what you’ve learned over the years. Sure, there’s nothing better than watching videos of giants falling out of the sky. But this kind of stuff is personally what I need to learn most right now. Thank you Buckin’
Where I live we have big meadows strewn with apple trees. Mostly the apples are used for apple juice and cider, so generally the trees are left alone to grow as they want, dead wood and all. Maybe a limb or two gets cut off when they grow old, but that's it. But I'm going to play out pruning scenarios in my head when I go walking now 😁🌳🍎🍏
@@westcoast8562 yeah I have an arborist coming up from Georgia that deals with a lot of peaches and the type of trees that I have so it’s gonna be a fun little experience
Thanks learned some things, I have apircot trees I grow from pits, I give them, some love but they need to be better pruned next year, thanks again Buckin
I've always heard to cut the runners that go straight up, and keep the sideways branch, worhs for me. I've trimmed my apple tree to the core, and it pops back everytime. It's a 40 year old tree though, it's established.
I have four apple, three peach, three fig, and one plum tree. Most are well established about fifteen to twenty years old. I prune them a little every year and the third year they get pruned back quite a heavily. If I don’t do this mainly the peaches will get leggy a limbs will break when the fruit is near ripe. I prune a little different but similar to your style. I really enjoyed your video on this subject great stuff !! Just wondering what variety of fig your wife planted. I have two Chicago hardy and one unknown.
I'm just hoping it is done freezing over night. Last night was the first night it didn't go below freezing. I'm worried my honeycrisp apple trees buds will freeze.
>99% chance an amateur will screw up a young tree. For the best health, longevity and yields, I highly recommend having a fruit tree professional do the pruning for the first, second and third years. For those of you who care to know why, I recommend searching the websites of agricultural universities and their extensions.
Great job! 1st goes off dry and broken limbs, then those which compete with the tree trunk and those which intersect, at last we can adjust the shape, length of branches, make it more airy etc... That is time consuming and neck wrecking (with big trees) job.

thx friend . I love you too
That's the type of work i do!! It's really nice working next to the truck like that
I love seeing variety especially when it involves the great outdoors.
Making the great outdoors look even better. Pruning is just a good thing for the plant or tree. 👍👍

THANK YOU FOR INVIGORATING THAT TREE. YOU HAVE GIVEN IT THE OPPORTUNITY TO STORE ENERGY FOR SOME DELICIOUS, HEALTHY FRUIT PRODUCTION .
7:37 Buckin's description of ecology 😂, love it
I love watching and learning from these more technical style pruning videos that buckin does 🤘
I really appreciate the pruning videos…I’ve learned so much! Thanks Buckin! Love you all! ❤✊

I like your random 'working around the yard' videos. Mixes it up a bit. Glad to see you're healing up. Starting heat up in Michigan already!
awesome i like the heat
Great video as always Fruit tree pruning is almost like pruning grape vines . Always try to get rid of much dead wood as you can ❤
I love pruning fruit trees. Always trying to learn more! Great video as always Buckin’!
I just pruned up some very young red pines on my property. Like 2 foot tall young.

@@BuckinBillyRaySmith Love you too brother. What a great community you have created. Gratitude!
Thanks Buddy! RWB ❤🎉
Pruning promotes vigor.
I need to learn how to prune my trees
Universities who produce videos on RUclips are a good source for pruning tips.

Love the video 100 percent educational for sure nice contrast from the 5 ft tree to a fruit tree . I hadn’t seen one pruned before
kool
Must have been something in the air, I pruned my apples in VT yesterday. A lot more dormant here in the NE. Don't be afraid

I need to prune my fruit trees, starting to look like a jungle.
What time of year is it too late to prune?
House may need new roof.
Good day friends

Foh - lee- idge.
Fruit trees are hardy, like old Japanese women, they live a long time no matter what.
Lucky that these trees are small.
think i may have only pruned 1 apple tree. Which had been mauled by a brown bear.
LET THE EGO GO PEEPS.
Do your research buckin. The tree language you understand. You could explain it in a way we could understand.
Have you thought about planting "Fig Trees" I have 4 around the house "South Westside" facing!
Rita just planted one
👍👍👍
