This video just showed up in my YT feed randomly and I got surprised to see my city. Although Fredericton lacks many of the big city "exciting" attractions, but it is truly lovely and peaceful. More importantly, are the people who are warm and welcoming. I love living here. Thanks for the video!

Quebec City is by far the most affordable capital city. You can spend as little as $700/month for a decent one bedroom that still has some access to public transport, or $1100 for something closer to the city center which is walkable enough to not need a car. 3 bedroom houses can be bought for 300k to 500k. Some other expenses such as food is slightly above average, but not by much. School and daycare is extremely cheap (free until university, $4000/year for university, $7/day subsidized daycare). Cellphone plans and car insurance are also cheaper than canadian average.

    • @rps1689
      @rps1689 Год назад

For sure, Quebec city is way more affordable and has much better access to primary healthcare. You cannot find a one bedroom in Fredericton for 700 a month. More like 1500 for a newer unit/

When I lived in Fredericton in 2016, I paid 900$ for a big one-bedroom beside the capital complex. 900$ was considered "insanely expensive" by my friends whose rents were in the 600-700$ range. Crazy times we're living in.
You're right about the historical district (aside for the markets, that's on George street), in the summers they have free movie screenings on the grass behind the barracks. Other events are in Officer's square (pride, free concerts, harvest jazz & blues, etc) at the corner of King and Regent. .
You're totally right about visiting in the summer, thats when there are *some* things to do. Winters are brutal and best remedied with Picaroons Winter Warmer ale. Actually, that's all there really is to do in NB outside of the summer, eat (sea)food and drink micro brew.
Fun fact about the capital city thing, during british colony era Saint John was supposed to be the capital city. They chose Fredericton instead because Saint John was susceptible sea invasions in times of war, which also explains why Saint John is so heavily fortified with historic sites like Carleton Martello tower, Fort howe, and Fort LaTour.
I'm glad you liked it though. Fredericton sure is beautiful this time of year. Same with the heavily forested countryside, all those different coloured leaves in the valleys. Breath taking scenery on the drive from Fredericton to Saint John.
Can you tell I'm a bit home sick? :P

I went to Fredericton for a weekend in December many years ago on business . I had a room at the Lord Beaverbrook Hotel right next to the river. Overnight it snowed and continued to snow all day. The river created a mist and all the trees had layer of ice. It was beautiful. I found the houses charming. Being a capital it's well maintained. I loved it. My customer recimmended a place for lunch called Joe's Diner. It was a long trailer with a counter and stools. I hope its still there. Thanks for the tour Alina.

As someone who has lived in Fredericton the majority of my life (and currently do), I can confirm that a lot of what was said in this video is very accurate. Fredericton is an excellent city, and it's definitely a hidden gem in Canada. However, it is definitely not the most affordable. Rent has SKYROCKETED here and the place I currently live in that I moved into in 2020 has risen by $600 a month in just 4 years, and my neighbors who just moved in pay $500 more than me (identical unit). You can rent a newly built townhouse in Calgary for cheaper than you can in Fredericton, so I would objectively say that Fredericton is not an affordable city. Compared to Vancouver and Toronto... yes, but compared to anywhere else in Canada... no.
    Great video overall!

I went to UNB awhile ago, and it was, for the most part, a great experience. It's such a nice place. While there are lots of things to do in the summer, there are some things to do at other times of the year. In the winter, Odell Park has really good cross country skiing and Crabbe Mountain, which is about 45 minutes away, has really good downhill skiing. There is the Harvest Music Festival in the fall and students are really busy in the fall and winter at all the schools in town. There are some really good restaurants too and the Boyce Farmer's Market is open on Saturdays year round. It might have changed a bit since I was there, but Fredericton is an interesting place in large part because of all the students that spend time there. Fredericton also has a small francophone population which makes sense as it is the capital.

Fredericton was made the capital back in 1785. Saint John was the capital at first (and also the oldest incorporated city in Canada), but it was thought that it best to relocate the capital inland, instead of on the ocean, so as to make it harder to attack the capital. Generally if you attack and capture the capital, you pretty much control the whole area that the capital controls

The three last videos that you've shown, depicted three beaultiful towns of the Atlantic coast of Canada.
It seems to me that this region of the country, along with the French portion, is the most attractive as far as urban landscapes and small towns are concerned.
But I might be wrong. That is just a impression based on the videos alone and on the bias we tend to form towards smaller and more picturesque towns.

Some days east coast and than take a flight to BC/Alberta. The cruise alone ( QM2 is an absolute dream ) is an adventure itself. Little bit depends on budget next year, otherwise I will take a direct flight from (AMS ) to Vancouver/Calgary and go fully for the mountains, lakes and forests. But as I said earlier you convinced me to visit the east, cooking brains at the moment 😱

@@rps1689 Uh, yes, that is predictable when there is a need to escape really overpriced markets. Hey, see if you can "relocate" to Bulgaria. Alina McLeod had exceptional luck in the various places she visited. In fact, I heard of a company which exploited global web connectivity to move HQ to BALI and reduce production costs radically. I think a startup could totally develop a database of global infrastructure and costs. No need to hang around where costs are maximum.

@@rps1689 I think people are not objective in choosing where they reside. "Where my friends are". Did you follow them there or get to know them there? All the places to eat out. Alina has found exceptional eating places everywhere. My favorite bands play here. Well, seriously, how much stress or debt are any bands WORTH. Etc. My childhood home had living costs go berserk. I couldn't get a working income to deal with that level of costs. Frankly, lower income with much lower costs is a rational choice. Overpriced places are not places to live, at most they are places for short visits.
