  • Byton is back at CES for a second year in a row, but this time with product that looks a lot more production ready. David Twohig, the self described "chief engineering geek," talks about the K-Byte concept and it's L4 autonomous capabilities. And he shows us the production version of the amazing interior of the M-Byte concept and it's 48" screen.

I love the design.... it's simple and I practical....it's NOT a tying to be futurestic fastback every car maker is doing recently.

I got to tell you - this thing looks awesone - - those retractable sensors and those WHEELS - - THAT CAR LOOKS GOOD.... I am pretty sure the screen will be a bit shorter for driving... But this company is headed in the right direction.... I wonder if i can buy some shares in this company for the future

Um wait 12 to 16 years before I invest in China because China's slowing down their companies have been caught committing espionage which is why their economy is slowing down Chinese car companies have posted their first loss in 16 years.

Don't care much about the autonomous stuff, but the K-byte is an awesome looking Sedan.

Here's one thing I hope I'll be able to do with all these displays: turn them completely off and leave just a tiny section showing the speedo and the fuel gauge. That's how I like to drive at night. Especially on roads I know and don't need navigation.

That would be cool for customers like you, they should make it possible... That wouldn't be hard at all. But for customers like me, I hope I can do silly things with those screens and let the car drive itself. I only like to take the wheel on nice roads.

Great looking car. If exterior stays the same as the concept, I might be willing to retract my $1000 from Tesla's waiting list and buy this car. I agree, they need to get rid of the digital screens in the front. Hope they can produce earlier than 2021.

Front screen is way too high....too much tech....as Einstein said...it's simple to make something complex but complex to make something simple. Tesla still has it....

Their cars look really good actually.. Problem is, it's difficult to mass produce them. Making small numbers per annum is doable but then they'd have to sell each one at sky high prices.. Don't think they can launch themselves as a brand like say ferrari.. It's hard to do but not impossible.
Tesla has no worries tbh.. They are still ahead in tech that's not overly obvious. I fear more for the traditional auto makers.. I hope vw suffers big time.. They deserve it for emissions cheating and indirectly killing us all.

Too much of a good thing becomes a bad thing. That's too much screen space. The primary focus for the driver needs to be the road, not the instrument display. That's too much screen space even for a wide screen movie. Besides all that, the primary story for an EV has to be the battery technology, and secondarily the motor technology, not the screen space. These guys are lost in a steaming pile of geekiness.

Bosch engine, CALT batteries. And electronics by TENCENT, application by Amazon, etc. Level 3 and then 4, so you do not need always looks ahead. Smart device on wheel.

it will be turned into three parts.
      Left: like a traditional dashboard
      Middle: Map
      Right: screen for the passenger
It will be dim/lit according to day/night. Won’t be able to watch videos while driving. It’s basically a new Benz dual screens size plus an extra screen for the front seat passenger.
Was sitting in it, the screen wasn’t the biggest concern for me as it really doesn’t block my vision at all. But how they really make a user friendly interface, and the software reliability.
But the distraction is definitely not a concern if u r in it. It sounds crazy and ground breaking. But essentially they just put an extra screen on top of the existing new Benz.
I quite like it,and hope it won’t be FF II

The focus of the driver doesn’t need to be the road when it’s self driving. Did you miss that part?

Wow terrible screen idea, but A Few Chinese will definitely buy any high quality product, so anyway good luck and keep costs low or bankruptcy will come sooner as funds run out. Not sure any advantage is being offered? What is advantage to being distracted from the road...

We're not allowed to look at our phones while driving but lets put a huge tablet and massive screen in front of the driver. Im all for progression thru innovation but isn't this a little irresponsible? Trusting a driver not to be distracted, we all know how addicted we have become to looking at screens, myself included. I just hope it partly limits its functions or turns off while in driving mode.

WHY CHINA?! I get the market is the "next big thing" but with trade skirmishes come huge risks. I wouldn't invest a dime in that country when shit hits the fan all assets will be seized by the government. Go to India if you want cheap labor, they manufacture goods and heavy machinery and they are a close ally. I feel like investing in China is so old. Like that was the thing in the 80's but now its to dangerous. I mean they take all your tech just to play in their market. Screw them.

, Parts, Parts...... You can build almost anything in China or source anything in China quickly and efficiently. Almost every car on the road has Chinese parts in quality.
India has the engineering chops but lacks the manufacturing base that China has.
For me, I have zero interest in owning a fully Chinese car.

The US wants big traditional trucks and SUVs, not EVs or Sedans, while China and Europe want passenger cars. Plus they have a far bigger market for renewables, electric and autonomous vehicles.
That's the market side, the manufacturing side has its own advantages compared to the US.

Where is the Tesla factory in China?? The Byton factory in Nanjing is ready to production (from 30.11.2018), and on May 2019 they will be 100% ready to produce almost 6000 M-Bytes / week.

    • @kobreti73
      @kobreti73 5 лет назад

100 pcs M-Bytes cars are every day on the chinese streets from a few month. But not only for a drive, because the cars are ready but for the Autonomous Dive Level 3 and Level 4 testing. Without min. Level 3 Autonomous Drive the big screed on the dashboard make no sense, so the Germans from the Byton needs 4-5 month time to go with that.
