Let's put it this way, even though he learned nothing (which I highly doubt) the amount of memories and family time together is something money can't buy. I think you and your wife are doing a wonderful thing, and don't worry about what other people say. In our lifespan, taking one year to explore with your loved ones is priceless. Bravo!

Yes, these are the times that are most memorable to a child. The child's brain keeps these memories in a special chamber and these chambers do not lose connection. In old age, you may feel like you have forgotten some things but you are still able to recall the happiest memories when you were a child. And these memories also help the child in tough times when he is an adult.

Travel opens our eyes to a wider world than that presented by our circumstances ( family, heritage, culture). Before the pandemic I made sure to bring my grandnephew to different places (Europe, the USA, Asia) each summer and Christmas break. Two to four weeks at a time. Made sure to visit museums, historical places, churches… but also Disneyland ,other theme parks and F1 😊 His present school sends it’s students on immersion trips to poorer communities so I believe he has gained a balanced, realistic view of the world around him. A bit expensive but all worth it.

The reading of the books from a young age proves that children will do what their parents do and not what they say. Anything you do in front of or with your child, they will continue to do throughout their lives. Adults are not called "role models" for nothing. What a wonderful start this little guy has in life, along with lots of fun, whimsy and laughter. 💖
