  • One of the reasons why people learn martial arts is to be able to defend themselves in dangerous situations. But with hundreds of martial arts styles in the world today, deciding on which one to learn can be a difficult choice. That is why most people want to know whether a martial art style is effective for street fighting before committing years to learn it.

I liked what you said about wing chun, and some video footage of it ...but you got it all wrong with the title of your video, because kung fu is a general word for chinese martial arts styles, and wing chun is one of kung fu styles. But at least your research about wing chun system is better than most videos on youtube.

Wing Chun is a great base in my opinion for self defense. I've been in more fights than I'm proud of, but defending the center line as Wing Chun instructs has saved me on more than one occasion. However, no single style of martial arts is the answer. I've studied several. I'm sure most of you have heard the phrase "jack of all trades, but a master of none," but there is a second part to that. The second part is "better to be a jack of all trades than a master of one." Don't limit yourself.

It depends. Before you learn & practise the martial arts (any types or styles), ask your self what is your ojective to learn & practise martial arts/Kung Fu. If you konw, you know what to learn. If not, then just find a good master who teach you & can tell you how to avoid a fight. There is no martial art that cannot fight, only the person. I am 69 yrs old now and have been studying martial arts since my mid-teens, starting with 12 yrs of Wing Chun, then TKD reaching 3rd dan and a couple of years of judo and western boxing along the way. I have had to defend myself a few times in my life after learning fighting systems and both times I used a combination of Wing Chun and boxing that go together very well I might add as I was successful every time blocking with several Wing Chun blocks, mainly Tan Sau and Bong Sau and then very quickly ended the fights with a couple of punches from boxing, a lead jab to confuse my attacker followed by a well-timed right cross! Most importantly learning martial arts gives you confidence and the ability to keep a calm mind whilst fighting. At the end of the day, it is more about the man than the style and if I had to encourage any youngster to learn quickly how to defend themselves by choosing only one style,I would recommend boxing

    • @mazenkaiser7234
      @mazenkaiser7234 Год назад +4

@@barrywilliams3147 Hello, I would suggest learning wrestling with aikido, the reason being is that aikido uses long arc techniques that are geared toward sword and longer weapons so it is taught with the fulcrum being the wrist; wrestling uses the waist as a fulcrum and it cuts off sections of the body to obtain wrist control!
If you want to use wrist locks with Wing Chun you need a short arc system there is a Chinese forerunner of Aikido known as Qinna it goes very well with Wingchun and the Centerline theory.
The Centerline & gate protection of Wing Chun is contradictory to the long arc principal of Aikido and it takes a lot of pressure testing and nuance to use either of these two systems in a fight.
Other systems that will match with Wing-chun are Silat and Kali (they are both close cousins to Wing Chun and since both use knife defense they have a lot of short arc wrist locks).

What I appreciate is the remark namely it is the individual level of mastery in any of the school that proves decisive in a street fight. Methodologicallyly, I miss som confrontation of masters of the two different principles to give a better view of the situation to be expected and and the style to be decided for. More to it, the Chineese still make a difference between the kicks of the North and fists of the south, with people mostly different in physical height and strength.Paul, 67, retired instructor of Karate. its not that its useless cos its actually devistating but the problem is peoples interpritations of the knollage range from nothing to out of this world ,99.9% of the wing chun you see on you tube for instance is complete crap and if they come across a good boxer or street fighter they get totally hammered in seconds ,the main reason is what they learn and how they learn they take as Gospel (they get stuck in whats called "the classical mess") what they havnt done is deconstruct everything they learned and re-construct it into what actually works and after the mind body connection epiffiny (the penny drops you must "do" so you fight and pressure test everything ,you soon learn what works and what doesnt ,also wing chun takes 25 years to get right ,from 10 years your just a black sash ,at that point after youve perfected one of the three systems ,you must then become the system meaning you have to take it all apart and reconstruct it but lots and lots and lots of real fights have to be done to do that the proper way ,then you have a true master that can beat the shit out of practically everyone but those ones dont advertise ,they stay in secret and you have to hunt them down ,everyone will claim to be the man when in fact your looking for that 1 person in 1000 that is just above everyone by 10,000000 miles ,there are a couple of good ones as far as i can see are def on there way to becoming exactly that and they are Master Wong and Master Tu Tengyao ,check them 2 masters out and i think youll be pretty suprised huh ,i,'d even show you on a couple of vids the absolute devistating power we have but if i did ,some how some way ,dont ask me how but my SiGung would know the second i did it i kid you not ,thats how special they get the longer they train ,old warriors that have done it and bare the scars to prove it ,their the ones you listen to ,not all these other crazies ,roof top bruce lee's ,he wasn't a Master ,Master my ass ,he had 2 years traing with yip then he left for the U.S ,thats why Jeet even appeared in the 1st place ,he was searching because he didnt finish his training ,he couldn't even explain expansion and contraction properly ,why ,cos he didnt reach that level of knollage ,why is he one sided ,why did he then close all his Jeet schools before he died 99% of what you see on here is shit but there are gold nuggarts if you look hard enough and they make all the shit worth it

I am one of only 11 people in the world to hold a 3rd degree in Tickle Feather Bung Chi (TFBI) . By using a single feather preferably from a PeaCock, I can tickle your armpits, feet, back of neck and even your groins to make you laugh and catch you off guard. Once that happens, I employ Bok Choy to finish you off with eye jabs. TFBI is so effective it is now being taught to Seals and Israeli Commandos in conjunction with Krav Maga. TFBI is now considered one of the deadliest forms of hand-to-hand combat. Plus if you do not have access to a feather, you can use a rose petal or any type of flower which is abundant in nature to mimic the tickle effect meaning you are always prepared for hand-to-hand combat in any type environment. The only time this deadly art form may fall short is in arctic conditions due to lack of green flora needed for tickleness . But once you learn how to use & prepare icicles to replace feathers, even Delta Force Commandos will back off and cry for their mama during combat. You have been warned.

Good job having a go at explaining the many intricacies and styles of the fighting arts. Wing Chun is included in the Chinese definition of Kung Fu as Kung Fu means hard work and that is what you will be signing up for if you wish to attain any level of skill in the martial arts.
Years of focus dedication and clean honest living.
Out of 100 who start 10 or less will remain after a decade of commitment.

Wing Chun is only a different form of Kungfu developed by a Shaolin Nun Ng A Mui and suitable for women and also men who have small bodies. Anyone asking this question isn't a fighter, what's best for fighting is the simplest most effective moves you can use against your opponents skill level. If thats one punch and a front kick, all the better, if thats getting close and dominating all movement attempts with Wing Chun, great but the fact is you require a fighters mind to apply the training of the body to combat. Training, forms, they provide a basis for combat, a skill set for the body to be moved through many positions with precision and power, they are not combat and combat requires a mind adapted to fighting. Combat is the application of skills at the right time in the right way. If you don't have it in you, you will lose.

It depends who trains you and how you train. The likelihood of finding a good teacher that will train you well to be effective is in general very hard to do when it comes to Kung Fu. A lot of frauds or people nowadays who only know the forms and perform them well, but don't really understand the application any further then how to demo a suggested application.
A lot of the best ones also often seem to be people who don't offer any teaching.
The highest chance of finding a good trainer will be in Sanda, which is mainly a mix of fighting styles (mainly competition focused styles) from all over the world that also has elements of some Chinese Kung Fu styles in it.
Wing Chun is probably the one with the second highest chance to find a decent instructor, but it is also flooded with frauds and people who train it wrong but are delusional about their capabilities.
From the Wudang styles Xing Yi is probably the one that will make you an effective fighter in the shortest amount of time, after that comes Bagua Zhang and at last Tai Ji Quan.
I imagine that for all of them to actually nowadays find someone who knows how to fight with them really is super rare. But the hardest one to find would probably be a Tai Ji instructor who can actually fight with it, because of its history. Which at a certain time focused more on the health aspects, instead of practicing the fighting. So there are many Tai Ji Instructors nowadays, but most of them wouldn't really know how to fight with it or how fighting with it would really look like.
From the Wudang styles the highest chance to find someone who can teach you to fight with and get the fastest results I'd say might be in Xing Yi. Training the others seem to need a lot more serious time investment and skill too before you can use them in a real encounter. Which already is a thing with all Wudang styles anyway. They all need considerably more time and effort to become useful.
Also you should consider in which context you want to use the Kung Fu skills you want to acquire, because that can also change quite a bit, which of these you should prefer learning.
