In an interview yesterday, Brian Kelly said Nick Saban gave him advice before and after he took the LSU job. What did he tell him about LSU?

If Kelly didn't already know that LSU was a great school, a great job, and had access to the best players, then he isn't the guy for the job.

If you're a real coach, which Saban is, you're not going to torpedo someone's boat by telling them some nonsense because that would mean you're scared of what they might be able to accomplish. Look, a real coach would celebrate another coach even if it was at his expense because they know that you're not supposed to bemoan someone else's success. It's called good sportsmanship, even if it means them joining your conference and becoming a direct competitor.
From being a head coach at LSU. Sounds like Sabin knows that Louisiana can kick his ass! With the right leadership. Let the games begin!!!

I can imagine Saban wincing and grabbing his Diet Coke as he says, “Let me tell you something about LSU, all right.”
I do know that Nick Saban wanted to come back to LSU after leaving the Miami Dolphins. This is all you need to know to understand what Nick thinks about the LSU job.

@@davidowen891 I'm not comparing LSU with anybody. Nick Saban asked the LSU Athletic Director if he could come back to LSU. Skip told him no. Les Miles was LSU's coach.

@@zudthehut what else was he supposed to tell him. Miles was about 3 weeks away from smoking Ohio State for a natty. If Miles had struggled during that 3 year tenure at the time..it would of been a different story.
@@davidowen891 with the right coach though LSU can become more or equal to Alabama easy. Most of the Alabama players I doubt are from Alabama. If it wasn't for nick saban leaving going to Miami the tune a be different.

It's pretty clear what Saban told him, politics tries to butt into everything LSU sports related, tell them to eff off and do things your way
They meet in events all the time. National Association of Coaches, etc. They may need each other to recommend other coaches and give blessings to pick each others coaches or endorse each others coaches for head coaching jobs or leap to the NFL. Stand up guys. It could take a few classes but he will have chances to win the Natty. Also I’m Bowden always said Miami and FSU got about the same quality of player, it’s coaching them and obviously injuries.
As a Bama fan I think Kelly is a good coach. I’m not sure I buy the Notre Dame can’t recruit line but pee wee Herman can recruit to LSU

So far so good! I'm happy Brian Kelly got his first win against Nick Saban! I was not expecting that in his first year.

Lol -- BK says "we're busy" -- yet he finds plenty of time to hit the golf course. We know BK can build a good team, but he hasn't proven he can field a champion at the highest level. Three to four years and he's out.

Saban will absolutely tell a recruit that LSU is a mess and Kelly is desperate and not to be trusted. He also didn’t give Kelly insights into Alabama’s weaknesses that Kelly can exploit in November. But I can see him being respectful enough of Kelly to give him a few broad strokes about the LSU job. My guess is he was at least mildly critical, but I guess he wasn’t so devastating as to scare him off.
Saban don’t have to bash schools and coaches to get recruits. He just pulls out rings

He’s known for pulling out all the stops or at least having his assistants do it. They don’t pull last minute recruits because the recruits just found out about the rings.
Saban never had to say Lsu was a mess out loud. The last two head coaches were absolute goons and everyone knew that lmao. What exactly is your point here
@@benmcneely2498 You might know if you had read the whole comment rather than picking on the first few words. My point is that he wouldn’t deliberately undermine himself or help LSU in a way that directly hurt Alabama. He would even be uncharitable toward LSU if it gave him an edge. But he would have a professional conversation with a peer he respected. He’s not afraid to potentially coach against someone good.
