Elvis might have sung Unchained Melody, but that song will always belong to Bobby Hatfield. You can tell that in is finale years, some of his voice has left him, but in his prime, he could not be beaten. He was the absolute best.
It depends on your POV. When I was a kid I had heard it sung on the pop stations in 1955 by someone, who was either Al Hibbler or Roy Hamilton. I also remembered Ebb Tide, probably the 1954 version by Roy Hamilton. Loved them both, never heard them again until Bobby. Then along came Bobby, who sang BOTH. My, my. I was in college so impressionable end of teens but I can't say the song belongs to him. Elvis didn't have a hit I ever heard on the radio. He had his own long chain of songs that belonged to him but not Unchained Melody. At least here Bobby nailed that high note. He didn't at the R&R Hall of Fame (Lovin' Feelin').
@@lynnlobliner3933 You have to remember, when they entered the hall of fame in 2003, they were both 62 years of age. As their voices changed, they made adjustments to the way they sang to fit the song. Bill to this day has a crazy good voice and he will be 81
This Black woman is in love with these guys! I wasn’t quite the teenager when their music was first broadcasted over the radio. I heard it, but at that time, I wouldn’t have understood the love and passion they had in their music; but I’m glad I’m old enough now to appreciate their amazing voices and their soulful sound. Thank God for blessing these guys with such passionate and soulful voices to be able to give a taste of what true love feels like in one’s spirit through song. I was fortunate enough to see them perform at The Orleans Casino in Vegas about two months before he passed away. I recall he introducing his wife and 16 year old daughter both of whom were in the audience as it as her 16th birthday.
I'm not doubting you saw him in Vegas; however, if you are saying it was his daughter's birthday, it couldn't haven't have been 2 months before he passed away. Just came across this again and I had a thought. Could it have been his wife's birthday? I believe her birthday is in September. Of course, she wouldn't have been 16.😄 Edit for typo.
That is a plausible possibility. His daughter turned 21 in February, his wife turned 52 in September, and Bobby Hatfield left his life at 63 on November 5, 2003. The Righteous Brothers played regularly and especially during the last years at The Orleans in Las Vegas. It seems that the performances in this video may be from there. And the August 2002 PBS Special "Red, White and Rock" was from there. They had it tough becoming popular during the height of the beatles era, but they were awesome.👍
Ive seen them perform 3 times in concert and once at Astroworld in Houston, and they were so Amazing. There voices blended like Angels, and they were so nice to everyone. I got an autograph and its one of those cherish momento that I own. Thank you Bill, and Bobby in Heaven😢❤❤.
Thanks to a buddy of mine, I actually got in the "green room" with the Brothers at a concert in Orange County in 1965. We chatted for a minute or so, enjoyed it and thanked them for the time. Their songs are among my favorite memories of my disc jockey days back then. Thanks guys and R.I.P. Bobby!
I've seen many wonderful words applied to Bobby Hatfield's singing though never "interpreter" -- but that is exactly accurate. The complex musicality of his singing voice combined with the complex meaning and emotion is so profoundly fulfilling.
@@josearvizu3098 I never received a notification of your reply, and just now see it as I'm reading through the comments! And so I'll ask a question, though I don't know if it's a stupid question or if this is the place to ask it. How does one enjoy a song when it is sung in another language, for you Espanol? Buenas Dias. 🎶✨
Bobby had lot of heart trouble he had a blockage 94% closed up in his heart smoking didn't help his voice at all they say he was a chain-smoker if you notice in this interview and all that he has a hard time breathing that's what it is his heart
Went to their concert in August 2001 at Six Flags Fiesta Texas I sure felt so good being there and I did say it I was having a ball. I did hear the same thing about Elvis what Bobby said when I went to Graceland I read it on the tour guide book that Unchained Melody was the last song that Elvis sang.
It deeply saddens me to know i will never get to see them sing live being since weve lost bobby. Im so jealous i didnt get to grow up in the 60s. I bet they were so fun to hang out with and Bobby was STILL killing it at 63.
If you can't say anything good, don't say anything at all. However, Nelita, people are asked to comment, and most of the comments recognize the Righteous Brothers extraordinary talent, and those that don't, don't matter! RIP Bobby.
Bobby is gone now and I think when sang in his youth he had the best voice. Here, neither of them seem to be able to belt it out like they used to. Maybe this happens with age. I don’t know. RIP Bobby..You guys were the best back in the heyday.
I saw them in '65, '68 & '77. When they started touring again I saw them every year they came to Boston. They were on The Esplanade in 2000-?, where the Boston Police estimated the crowd at 500,000. My husband & I flew out to Vegas in October, 2003. We had tickets for an August 2003 show, but had to fly to Fort Lauderdale to pass papers on a condo. I always knew that Bobby would die at an early age. Don't ask me why. It was a premonition. My husband & sister & myself met Bobby & the band every year they came to Cohasset, MA. He was a humble man, who thanked God for his success. He was down to earth & not at all like, "Do you know who I am?" But the Goddam drugs got to him. Bobby, we miss you & we'll see you & hear you when we pass & elevated to heaven. RIP, Bobby!
Bobby was a very blessed individual, blessed with such a beautiful voice. Looking at this video, shortly before he passed, he sounded great. Rip Bobby you are dearly missed.
Read Bill' memoir. One time Bobby had a blood clot in his leg and those around him had to drag him to a doctor. Afterward he would never see a doctor. Bill said " Nobody could make Bobby do anything he didn' t want to do."
I have a sincere question. Why do people take everything Bill says as gospel truth? Read the book and found it to be poorly written self-aggrandizing garbage.
@@Aurora-tp3dy I agree with you 💯%. I’m so sorry I bought the book. A lot of garbage from an insecure braggart. Bobby was the better entertainer and Bill knew it. I’m sorry, I love the Righteous Brothers, but Bill just pissed me off with his description of Bobby. The one thing in the book I do believe is what Bill said at th end of the chapter on Bobby’s death, “there will never be another Bobby Hatfield”
Love Bobby! What year was it when a criminal jumped him in a parking lot - broke every bone in his beautiful face? They were great together but Bobby I felt was the more talented - & in his prime was truly sooo easy on the eyes! Looks & talent - doubly blessed!
Sept 1988 - but it was no assault. He and a friend, who were both intoxicated, were horsing around and Bobby slipped and fell. That’s by his own account and the police report which they reluctantly had to file because the hospital reported it…. He initially said it was a stranger so his friend’s name wouldn’t come into it.
It was a drunk bartender from the Hop (a club Bobby was part owner of) who Bobby tried to stop from driving. In brief, outside the club, he tackled Bobby from behind driving him into the ground. He had serious head injuries. Bobby's wife witnessed it and filed a police report the next day after Bobby got out of surgery. Somehow or other, people who had no I idea what was truly going on spread the story that it was friends horsing around that caused to Bobby to slip and fall. [Everyone should thank zanhar for taking the time to confirm the correct information.]
@phyllisrogers, he made Bobby sound like a child who he had to take care of all the time. He said he was always concerned about what might come out of Bobby’s mouth so he was always on edge. That Bobby didn’t take their recording seriously, he would show up at recording sessions late with a case of beer. When Bills wife was killed, he said after telling Bobby that he was taking some time off to take care of his son, Bobby got angry and said Bill was deserting him. I just can’t see Bobby saying something like that because he had kids of his own. Bill also said that when he decided to reform the RB and went looking for Bobby, he found him in an small apartment that he was about to be evicted from and Bill got him a place to live and gave him $35,000 for a “ much needed face lift.” I read recently that Bill is backpedaling on some of the things written in the book about Bobby. The only nice thing he said about Bobby was in the last sentence in the chapter on Bobby’s death, he said “there will never be another Bobby Hatfield.” P.S. My copy of Bills book was used in my cats litter box which is where it belonged.
😢 I don’t see the need for Bill to write that. If they were friends, “ brothers “ He has simply done what was right ! Everybody knows Bobby’s problem with cocain , one of the sad adiction that artists faced, we saw the efect of alchool drug abuse on Elvis, both drugs in Janis, Morrisson and so many others until now. I have a son who spent 15 years with this adiction and He had the support of Everybody who loved him and now he is ok. There is no shame, I think they are making a big Tabu on this issue. 😢
@@BobbieH414 Bill worrying about what Bobby would say is interesting since everyone else who knew Bobby thought he was the funniest and wittiest person ever. The period when Bill completely lost his voice is the same time frame when his ex was killed. Yes, Bobby had kids then and those kids and the later ones think he was the best father. He arrived at the recording studio to do his part. Maybe he didn't see the need to stand around doing nothing--that's if Bill is truthful. Bet he drank the beer.😀 I've wondered about the facelift story. I've seen pix of Bobby from 1972. He looked great. Can't imagine what could have happened to his face between then and 1974. I get agida just thinking about that book. Can't believe I wasted time and money on it.
If he hadn't drunk heavy or smoked he could of peaked at his 50s he may of kept his silly smooth voice that he was known for and is high pitch voice which few could match
He did have a 41 year career with the Righteous Brothers. That they were finally inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame earlier that year 2003, and this interview with the performance that year, bring some gladness with the sadness. Of course he doesn't sound musically as he did when he was 25 on The Andy Williams Show, but he exudes his heart and soul as passionately and beautifully. 💜🎶✨

Two lovely men and so talented. I love Elvis as number one but young Bobby made "Unchained" something incredible. RIP, Bobby. Thank you.
Rip in peace Bobby love the unchained melody song you sing
The righteous bros. Has always been my favorite singer's, I have seen an meet them four times over the years , I sure miss Bobby Hatfield, he was a great singer.
Lucky You!
@marymichael1211 Thank you, and God Bless you.
Bobby!
They were much better than the Beatles.
That’s hardly Diplomatic With not a Lot of Thought.
I love THE BEATLES and I love RIGHTEOUS BROTHERS...they were just different musicians 💜
And the rolling stones to they were better than just about anyone😊
they were both great singers
BOBBY,UNO DE LOS MEJORES INTÉRPRETES DEL MUNDO,MI ADMIRACIÓN Y RECONOCIMIENTO.DIOS LO TENGA EN SU GLORIA. DESDE POZA RICA VERACRUZ MÉXICO.
I've seen many wonderful words applied to Bobby Hatfield's singing though never "interpreter" -- but that is exactly accurate. The complex musicality of his singing voice combined with the complex meaning and emotion is so profoundly fulfilling.
Animo!

I never received a notification of your reply, and just now see it as I'm reading through the comments! And so I'll ask a question, though I don't know if it's a stupid question or if this is the place to ask it. How does one enjoy a song when it is sung in another language, for you Espanol? Buenas Dias. 🎶✨
Bobby Hatfield, I will always love you. See you in heaven.❤️
What a lovely soul .
So very warm in communion with other souls
I love you your awesome voices and sweet personality you have.
Great legends..aww REST HIGH IN LOVE BOBBY HATFIELD..
surely miss your great voice xoxo
You are the best of the best ❤️
Mr. B. Here ! 🍩☕️👀😎👍🎸🎶🎸🎶 these two guy Righteous was the correct Name ! RIP Bobby ⚰️you gave so much joy, thank . Bill you keep rocking 🎺🎷🎸🎶
Only 63? Peter Cetera of "Chicago" still has a great voice and he's in his 70's. The Righteous Brothers were amazing!
This was from about 2003, the same year Bobby Hatfield passed away.
Bobby had lot of heart trouble he had a blockage 94% closed up in his heart smoking didn't help his voice at all they say he was a chain-smoker if you notice in this interview and all that he has a hard time breathing that's what it is his heart
Still has it
Went to their concert in August 2001 at Six Flags Fiesta Texas I sure felt so good being there and I did say it I was having a ball. I did hear the same thing about Elvis what Bobby said when I went to Graceland I read it on the tour guide book that Unchained Melody was the last song that Elvis sang.
Some of the best music around
I loved these guys since the first time I heard them and I am still in awe of them especially Bobby he was amazing.. R.I.P Bobby
Great guys and combinations and singers!.
love em...love em.. Worked at a banquet and a (black) lady said as the music play...oh that the blue eyed soul!
Just love you guys..
You both rock and so awesome..woohoo!!!☆☆♡♡
Don't make them like that anymore. R I P Bobby. Thank you both for all you gave.
It deeply saddens me to know i will never get to see them sing live being since weve lost bobby. Im so jealous i didnt get to grow up in the 60s. I bet they were so fun to hang out with and Bobby was STILL killing it at 63.
I am sad also that I never saw them live. Though I am so glad that we have the sounds, sights, and spirits living on to inspire and enjoy.
@@marymichael1211 Amen to that.
Bill and that voice....he even has a very pleasant speaking voice.
BEYOND Amazing vocalists
Happy New Year Bobby up in heaven and Bill happy New Year's to you too we miss you too together
Love your version of unchained melody
If you can't say anything good, don't say anything at all. However, Nelita, people are asked to comment, and most of the comments recognize the Righteous Brothers extraordinary talent, and those that don't, don't matter! RIP Bobby.
RIP Bobby.
One of the greatest rendition of the song by Bobby. Right up there with Roy Orbison & Elvis.
Elvis and Roy aren’t even in the same park as Bobby.
Soul Brothers,!!
RIP, Bobby!
Bill still is even though he's in his eighties he still seems good and also had throat cancer and beat it
63 is the age that Bobby died. Must've been soon after this interview.
I ADORE YOU BOBBY 💙
When I hear their song Unchanged Melody, 🎵 I think of the movie Ghost❤😊
Great singer !!!!!!!!!!!
Unchained Melody that was Bobby song he sung that better than anybody could have
Bobby was a very blessed individual, blessed with such a beautiful voice.
He did have heart meds in his system, so he had seen a doctor
Wonderful interview...
Was this Bobby's last performance before he passed away? So glad for this video!
So, Bobby died the same year of this interview? So sad...loved his voice!

Annette Farrell he died of heart complications due to a combination of drug use (cocaine) and pre-existing heart conditions
Thank you Bobby! R.I.P.
It broke or cracked his pallette also.
I love bobby
Heerlijk om naar te mogen kijken, terug in de tijd. GENIETEN. Niet alleen mogen maar ook kunnen . Zo emo.
I'm crying !
Me too
This interview was recorded just weeks before Bobby died.
Bill Medley is one of the nicest guys in show biz.....and his voice and stage prescence are incredible.
Yeah. Read his book and the hatchet job he did on Bobby.
@@EmmaGS what did he do to Bobbie
Bet he drank the beer.😀
I've wondered about the facelift story. I've seen pix of Bobby from 1972. He looked great. Can't imagine what could have happened to his face between then and 1974.
I get agida just thinking about that book. Can't believe I wasted time and money on it.
Guys brilliant
Bill Medley just had throat surgery . He has recovered and going on his last tour at 80 years old with a new partner
Hopefully not his very last your ever!

First of all I can't sing a lick. If I tried to go that high like he did at 8:45 I probably wouldn't be able to speak for a month.
If he hadn't drunk heavy or smoked he could of peaked at his 50s he may of kept his silly smooth voice that he was known for and is high pitch voice which few could match

Amo bobby.
This interview from 1962/63, sadly is very shortly before boby's death...... .
Did you mean 2003?, which is when this interview was, shortly before Bobby Hatfield left his life.
