Huh... This one hit pretty damn hard
I'm 38 y/o divorced father nowdays and have already realized some time ago that I'm a huge people pleaser.
Each and every one of the signs mentioned was a gut punch, some of them were things I'm still having a hard time feeling about as bad gor me (the chameleon one comes to mind)
I've been seeing a therapist for several months now and still am unable to see a path out of this behaviour... I've been making steps, been taking more and more decisions to live more purposely for my self (like having divorced a very toxic partner) but still, when challenged by other people I fing myself lowering my gaze, unable to express myself fearing anger or resentment by the other party...
I really feel powerless to change this about myself at this point and age and it depresses me to my core since, as mentioned before, I'm a father and suppose to be a roll model to my daughter...
Im not sure why I share all this here but... Well... At least I'm not apologizing over it, i guess (a thing I used to do a lot of as well) 🤷🏻‍♂️

Gosh it sounds like you've had such a tough time, I'm so sorry. First off, really glad you're seeing a therapist and have managed to divorce your toxic ex. Those are such huge proactive steps towards a better future for you and your kids. You clearly are a good role model for them with those things alone! Secondly, all of these behaviours can be changed over time - and it doesn't matter what age you are. The key thing is that it does take time. None of these things make you a bad person or are anything to be ashamed of, it just means some self-esteem work needs to be done. It sounds like you're on the right path, keep going my friend!

@@AbraHaze84I totally relate to this - including trying currently to divorce toxic spouse

@@SarahNicholls oh wow... I totally missed this comment, apologies sarah.
Thanks a lot for the kind words and empowering response, it's been almost a year since I've written the original message and I must admit there has been lots of changes for the better in my life. It happened little by little but the feeling of helplessness, slowly, eventually made way for better self esteem and with it better confidence.
If I could spare some advices of my own it would these: Don't give up on trying to better your situation. Small changes are still changes. Retrospective is amazingly powerful tool to realize how much you have achieved in small succession over a long period of time. Change takes a long time and focus, it can get tiring but if it does this also means you're on the right track. And most important of all, honestly try to seek and not reject help, it can sometime feel like admitting defeat but receiving/accepting help is actually one of the bravest things a person can do.
I'm planning to watch this video again today to see how much, if at all, my feeling about the subject had changed.
Again, thank you for this vid and for the kind response, keep it up its a blessing ♥️

@@soniaperez9269 I'm sorry to hear about your situation. I hope you will find the correct path to better times.
I urge you to read my response to sarah (and her earlier response to me), maybe, hopefully, it'll empower you too.
      Stay strong 💪♥️

I had no idea that chameleon type behaviour was a sign of people pleasing but that really resonated with me
