Well everyone is too soft these days of being PC,Woke and snowflakes... comedy died years ago,its like they want us bored and miserable, could not release a Mel Brooks or Monty Python film now
@@JasonBorn89Oh dear god. Nothing to do with being 'woke' or pc. Most of the stuff in steptoe and son is pc apart from a few off colour jokes and can still be shown on daytime TV and IS shown on day time TV. Same with Fawlty towers and other gems of a bygone era. The funding however is very different and ppl scared to take chances on new up coming writers.
A landmark show with true quality in every department -cast,writing,,etc and it is still loved nearly 60 yrs later,I watched this 💎 back in the 70s and even today it still makes me smile thanks for the post Auckland New Zealand 2023
A golden era where the actual talent of the actors or cast made it all come together and we never realised how good many were until years later - nothing comes close to stuff like this !!
I was born after this was made and after 1986, but TV was far far better back then than today and comedy is nonexistant now. If I want to watch comedy I usually need to go back decades to get it
A series that was dedicated to the true working man of the day that everyone regardless of who they were or what they were absolutely adored and loved. God rest these gentleman and dear old Hercules the Horse. The Rag and Bone men trade is a non existent thing now but for two ingenius writers to create a comedy series around their trade is a Blessed and wonderful dedication to them ❤
At 0:13 - oh God, that theme tune brings back childhood memories for me. The old BBC Video intro. Better than the 1991 version which just had the BBC logo form up.
I remember it from the first time around, with cameo roles from so many well known faces from the time. As Harold said, best funeral ever. The best job would have to have been the Set Dresser. This series had some of the best insults ever. Over the years i think Harold won about three times.
What a gem...not only did I think there was no more steptoe in 86 but JoJo Lumley appears in this 1 & I wonder how many people would think MARVEL when I say Joanna was a ”NEW"Avenger
BBC Video, part of BBC Enterprises Ltd, the commercial arm of the BBC back then made a fortune from selling their archive on videos back in the 80s and 90s. People forget what it was like, to own a copy of these classic shows for the first time.
Two of the famous commedy people. That made very funny comedy seares for us all to enjoy watching. Back in the 70s. Along with other people like Morecambe and Wise. Lorral and Hardy. Stanley Backster. The goodies. Rowan Hatkinson. Alf Garnett., Tommy Cooper, and many more.😂😅😊❤❤
When you Love and watch ,Steptoe & Son, On the Buses, Until Death Us Do Part, George & Mildred, Are You Being Served, Not on Your Nellie, Nearest & Dearest, Dick Emery's shows etc... You'd think there was only about 10 actors in London as all the bit part actors appear in most of them!!!
It's a fallacy that they didn't like each other. It came from the gutter press . Having been a great fan in the 70s I know they got along very good together
TV comedy is literally dead especially now that people are so sensitive about everything , They would have a meltdown if these shows were put on the box now ,
Does anyone happen to know where the opening shots of the petrol station were filmed? Just curious to see how it looks today on Google Maps, assuming of course that it still exists! Thanks.
@@beardedloon77 Thank you for the reply. Being a fruitcake, and because I felt frustrated at finding no answers, I even did a thorough research for 'Richmond's Car Wash', but along with extensive looks for Esso garages on Google maps, I still drew a blank. The only other clue is that there is a rather distinguished, Masonic-like building in the background at 01:54. Someone must know! Thanks again Doug. Regards. Mark.
@@marknestbox no worries just in general a lot of the exterior shots in s&s were filmed around the bush goldhawk road areas perhaps have a street view wander down the old archways near the market an you may spot the lodge type building.
On the bus. Steptoe n son minder .best flim steptoe rideagain the part were albert was iin the plastic bodysuit too fool the ddrunk doctor amazing harol harol gin be back me body.
Poor Harold he should have been allowed to escape oil drum lane and his horrible father it's a pity they didn't write a final episode with that storyline,
Mrs Richards: "I paid for a room with a view!" Basil: (pointing to the lovely view) "That is Torquay, Madam." Mrs Richards: "It's not good enough!" Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?..." Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea!" Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky." Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction." Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment ?"
My God this was so good comedy on another level As the BBC is no longer able to do anything but woke and communist views time to turn the transmitter off roll on 2027
Hate the way they never gave Harold no happiness it's just mean. And not good writting imo constantly letting the poor sod down instead of giving him a bit of joy every now and then it's what the people want to see.
All the greatest comedies/sitcoms are based on some kind of conflict. Albert usually gets the best of Harold, except for the final episode (spoiler alert lol)
I love ❤️ steptoe and son episodes were great back in the day and even great watching them in 2023 thank you 🙏 for sharing these
Quite simply one of the best. Not only top notch scripts, but actors who embodied their roles at a level we simply don't really see today,
It's sad but true a programme made fifty years ago is better written and acted than anything produced in 2022 ,
Yes totally agree 👍
That was such a creative era for music and tv too
I agree

Priceless series. Well ahead of it's time. Rip cast.
A masterpiece, one of the very best S&S episodes ever.
Most of TV today is beyond a joke.what we do without the wonderful repeats.
As a teenager I loved this show .

"Make sure she's got her knickers on ! " priceless ,The late Great Rita Webb ,marvelous cast .
Brilliant episode still funny to watch 😅😅😂😂❤❤
When television was worth watching. As i kid i loved this. Bring back the 70s and 80s tv
Get me a time machine, I'd go back to 60's and 70's at the drop of a hat 👍
Modern comedy writers take note ..this is how it's done.

I had this VHS. Played it to death back then.
I've still got it somewhere, along with two others, one of them was a blue colour and the other was green. I played them non stop.
The best Episode ever👍👍
I’ve still got this video in my lock up! Oh my god, another bleeding funeral! 🤣
Superior writing & acting, that is much missed these days .
Thanks for sharing!
I was born on 25 10 1968 excellent series classic are classics for a reson thay always be shown i do have the box set on dvd
once in a lifetime you may just be lucky enough to experience a marriage such as galton and simpson and brambell and corbett.

£44.99 today £12 in 1986.

There wasn't, this was from 1972.
1986 was the year it was released on VHS.
Both Corbett and Brambell had passed away by that point.
@@jamesbyersmusic I thought so

One of my favourite episode s ,
These two didn't have to act it was so natural it's didn't look like acting the words flowed weren't forced I loved them
I remember this one on GOLD repeats. It features a very young Joanna Lumley before The New Avengers as Purdey.
They both look good in their bowler hats and full suits.
A rare happy ending for Harold! And he still had the girl to meet later on!

I Really Must Get Steptoe And Son Oh What A Beautiful Mourning On VHS I Haven’t Got it Yet
About 20:00 is Mrs Slocum!
And Gilly Flower; one of the elderly sisters in Fawlty Towers!
They might not have liked each other, but consummate actors.

Albert she could be from anyone of us
Harold what a bleeding family
That just about says it all
I wonder how he got that little statue without anyone noticing
When he went back for his hat
One of the old ladies in this episode looks like the lady who plays aunt Clara on Bewitched! Can't tell though...
How belittling and humiliating for that student please tell me she isn't a teacher any more
Bring some bubby gum, Lobster sandwiches & carrots with Garage station 1986✔
10:30 Laural & Hardy.
Strange that the pretend DDT that Harold was spraying for fleas, if it was real it would still be around today.
The good old DDT days.
I love Steptoe and sSons.😅
Seeing them in their bowler hats I'm thinking they look like they advertise flour without any lumps.
Harold!!!! .... don't leave me harold 😂😂

It's probably a car cleaning station now run by polish or Albanians like many other ex petrol stations
Very funny series, but sometimes painfully close to the truth.
does anyone know if there is any extra footage on the VHS's of steptoe and son compared to the latest dvd's
Steptoe the klepto🤣🤣
