I wouldn't say the yoyo-ing of today even existed back then. The competitive scene existed (in infancy and obscurity), but it's not something the general public knew about. They were walking the dog, maybe rocking the baby and that's it. The yoyo-ing style and ethos is much more popular today than it used to be.
