That's gorgeous! ❤ Thank you for sharing. If I had the money, I'd build a very authentic Ancient Roman villa too, but I would live in it. The upstairs would be my actual living quarters with the option of A/C and heat. lol It would be in the Ancient Roman motif, but with a modern kitchen, bathrooms, TV, etc. The downstairs would be where it would be authentic. I'd actually want the atrium to have the option of being a functioning impluvium, though, as it also functioned as ancient air conditioning. The heat would rise. However, I'd install a retractable glass roof for the colder months or when there are heavy rains. If I could pull it off, it would be a stained glass retractable roof. And because I'd want to share the beauty, the downstairs would be open for tours on the weekends much like many grand homes in the UK are. And possibly rent out space for weddings & events. I'd have to win the lottery, though. 😂 But that's the dream.

I am reading a book on Herculaneum right now. It mentions this villa. The Getty Museum is based on the layout of the Villa of the Papyri that was found in Herculaneum and built in the 1st or 2nd century BC. So if you were curious as to how the very wealthy lived in ancient Italy, this is it. The gardens, sculptures, pools, mosaics are all authentic. The statues are located in the same positions as they were in the original. You will notice when you come inside, around the pool there a 5 sculptures but room for six as one of them was missing from the original excavation. These sculptures are copies of the original sculptures now found at Naples. I assume all the tile work and floor mosiacs are based on the original or similar to what was found in Herculaneum and Pompei.
    Thank you for the tour!

I am a still photographer. It was very interesting. I shot 100 shots. As I look at your video. I like it better then stills. The day I was there. It had a lot of school kids. Not a lot of paintings. But the huge pool and the garden were great.

Yes, the outside is better than the inside in my opinion, especially on a pleasant day. Thanks for watching!

Is there a shuttle to take pedestrians up from the bus stop on PCH, or will we need to call a cab for a 90-second ride?

No, unfortunately no shuttle that I know of. I think you can take a cab up if you're not planning on parking there.

@@travelwithcy: Thanks for replying! That's what we will do, then. (I'll call the venue to make sure.)

I called: Ooh, they DO send a shuttle when Metro passengers ring a bell! Cool.
