I've been using Loctite ultimate crystal clear. It is interior/exterior. It doesn't say on the tube but it is a low VOC.

Thank you - this was most helpful since I'm a beginner. I would love to see a video on using stained glass on glass (to include what thickness of the backer glass is best and framing in a floating frame).

    •  3 года назад

Great suggestion! I had planned on doing a video of the glass on glass process and how I go about it. Almost any frame will have glass thickness that is suitable for a glass-on-glass mosaic project. I have seen several GOG mosaics that do not have frames as well.

Thanks for your "glue review" for glass mosaics. My daughter and I are going to do a "water theme" design on the wall behind her wood burning stove in her house. It's a corner area, 10 feet tall by 22 inches wide, twice. We're considering putting the design on fiberglass mesh first, then "thin setting" the panels onto the wall. I appreciate your direct approach for those of us who are looking for answers to these challenges.

Any video regarding glass mosaics is very welcomed as far as I’m concerned. It helps me a lot since I’m in beginning stages. What would be second choice for glass on glass? Thanks for doing these videos.

    •  3 года назад

Coming soon! Thank you for the suggestion and for watching! In terms of a second choice...I'm wondering if you mean adhesive? E-6000 is a popular second choice, although you will need to push your glass down to try to ensure a flattened-out spread with no bubbles. It can be a little tricky as it is a bit thicker.

I am starting my very first Mosaic piece--finally. I want to know can I use a piece of stained wood that has been varnished to apply Mac glue and then my tiles??? If not---what do I have to do to it first and last before I start my project. I tried to use this wood and the Mac Glue and tiles would not stick to it. I took them off and sanded and cleaned the wood and it still want stick??? What do I do??? tk u K

    •  2 года назад

Hi Kaye! I am glad that you sanded the wood (make sure it is totally brushed off and totally dry after sanding). I use MAC glue for mosaic glass pieces that I glue directly onto glass (not onto wood). I ALWAYS use Weldbond glue on wood and Weldbond does actually claim it can be used on wood. You should be good to go with this advice! Side note: If you are placing your finished project outdoors, you may want to check with Grainger.com (Weldbond company) to ensure it will maintain its bond. With that said, I have several art pieces that hang outdoors and have used Weldbond! I hope this helps!

I'm trying to find a fast drying glue for use on general mosaic work (not glass on glass). I've used Weldbond & Mosaic Mercantile Adhesive (available through Diamond Tech) and these work well but take quite a while to dry (6-24 hrs) before grouting. I'd love to find a glue that can set in less than an hour and allow for grouting with minimal problems. Does anyone know of any quick drying glues? Appreciate any help.

    •  3 года назад

This is an interesting question. I was going to point you toward the link in the video summary, but it looks like MAC glue is extremely hard to find all of a sudden. I'm not even able to find it on the product website www.macglue.com! Let's keep hunting and drop a link here if we find. I'll keep looking. Perhaps COVID is causing a delay in production, etc.

I want to do wine glasses - so which would be best for something that would be hand washed? MAC is sold out everywhere.

    •  2 года назад +1

I would try E6000. I do sell some mini tubes on my www.jenjame.com website, but you can get larger tubes on amazon. I would make sure to push your mosaic glass enough to where the glue spreads across the wine glass in between (so that you have a decreased chance to see the glue through the glass).

After glueing glass on glass..what's the next step to sealing glass on to glass. Then what grout or just glue to seal in. Between lines..color? On blue vase with mirror glass mosiac pattern

    •  3 года назад +1

Hi! I personally like sanded grout because it is stronger than non-sanded. If you have minimal spacing between your glass, however, non-sanded is a good option. When I say minimal, I mean either glass tiles touching or almost touching (the non-sanded can get into these areas easier because it is smoother. In terms of color, there are different ways to go about making this decision. 1. If you love the way your mosaic vase looks with the blue background, then I recommend sticking with blue grout. 2. If you have several colors of dry grout, you can put a little of each in different areas to give yourself an idea of which grout will look the best (keep in mind, the grout when applied and dried will not be as bright). 3. There are some mosaic artists who only ever use black because they love how it adds contrast and brings out the color of the mosaic pattern. Keep in mind, it isn't easy to find a grout that ends up being pure black....it typically dries dark grey, but you can add dye to your grout to assist. ***If you are interested in sealing your entire project once dry, you can use Mosaic Mercantile Mosaic Grout Sealer (best for indoors) or you can use Miracle Sealants (Lowes carries this)....be sure to use a seal great for glass.....or no seal at all is perfectly fine for indoor.

Hi Jen thanks for this video, what would you recommend to remedy grout bleed for glass on glass mosaics with no backing? :)

    •  2 года назад +1

Ella - This is a GREAT QUESTION!! I am so glad you asked this. In fact, your question deserves its own tutorial video. Since I do not have a video on this topic yet, I highly recommend you check out this blog: i-c-mosaics.com/blogs/how-to-make-mosaics/how-to-stop-grout-bleed --- I will pull a quote directly from this link to help streamline the advice: "To help stop grout from seeping under your glass, you need to make sure you get your glue all the way to the edges of your glass. But sometimes this doesn't always happen. So a good remedy for that is to use a Weld Bond Wash. To make your weld bond wash, mix ½ water and ½ weld bond and I like to paint it on. I give it a good, generous coat and then wipe off the tops of the glass." -- Make sure the wash is dry before applying grout.

Hi Jen. Im building a memorial garden for my son in my backyard. I have never made a glass mosaic. I have poured a concrete pad that I'm looking to cover with fire glass. What type of glue/adhesive would you recommend for glass to concrete.?

    •  3 года назад

Hi Lance! You may have already figured out the process by now. What a beautiful project! When you mention "fire glass" are you referring to the fire glass rock-shaped material? If so, definitely use sanded grout or thinset to embed the thick glass into. If you are referring to the normal type of square or rectangular type of glass that you can purchase by pattern sheets, I also recommend using grout or thinset. But, you can also use Adiseal or Loctite adhesive. I have heard that Adiseal is the best on the market for a waterproof, outdoor solution. This link might help: adiseal.com/adhesive-sealant/ Here is an Amazon link as well: www.amazon.com/Adiseal-Adhesive-Sealant-290ml-Ultra/dp/B095CCCKGS/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=adiseal&qid=1626719784&sr=8-2 --- I sure hope this helps! Either way, you should be good with one of these strategies and with the grouting after to seal everything in. Please let me know if you need any more advice!

I can’t find Mac Craft glue. Even their website isn’t selling it. Other alternatives?

    •  3 года назад

Sheryl, correct...I believe COVID affected their production, but I have heard they will resume shipping this Spring! They also do not ship during Winter because the cold weather affects the glue. I personally have not tried the following ideas as alternatives, but my community of mosaic artists have shared these alternatives to MAC: Lexel silicone (you can use a syringe or plastic bag with a poked hole at the end....and be sure to push the air bubbles out when applying the tiles), clear gorilla glue (not the kind that expands), Judikins Diamond glaze, and Clear E6000. HOPE THIS HELPS!!!
