      @@OurPetsHealth Not really!!! They are protection dogs, not a sweet lab. If your dog stands between you and a person trying to harm you, do you want their ear yanked and them hurt? So, people RECOGNIZE the breed and will less likely bother you and then there is no biting incident that will get your dog KILLED! AND, floppy ears are not easily read! Pointy ears can speak volumes and let you know what the dog intends to do! VITAL for dogs bred to protect and it allows them even better hearing! NOT just cosmetic, but in this case, cosmetic helps and prevents bites and death to the dog. Some people are just to emotional to understand LOGIC.

    i always loved the upright look and thought it was natural. I always wondered why my pitbull terrier pup (1 year old) doesn't have that feature unlike his parents and a few of his siblings. He has floppy ears but one of his ears occasionally stands up, I learned about ear cropping and for a few months I though of bringing him to the vet to do it but welp, I figured I would miss his natural one up-floppy ears. No need to cause him unnecessary pain just for aesthetics.

    And yes as an American I can say I did not even know that that was not the natural form of Doberman ears. It is so common I don't think I've ever seen a doberman here without Pointed ears. if I did I definitely did not recognize it as a Doberman. My misconceptions growing up Dobermans have pointy ears and Pitbulls ''Pits'' don't have tails. Eventually it was explained to me they're "fighting dogs" and tails and sometimes ears are clipped so that their opponents have less to grab a bite. . . when they're fighting in the Pit thus the name Pitbull. I was too young and there was no internet to fact-check this. It didn't make it any better but it did make it make sense

    Ear cropping is so common here in the US that I think many people don't even realize that it's a surgical procedure that causes them to look that way. If someone likes the "cropped ear" look maybe they should consider getting a Bull Terrier for example - they have ears that point up and look as though they are cropped but they are just that way naturally, no surgery required.

Now was recently looking looking at a few photos and videos. And the first thing I noticed looking at this cane corso is that its ears and tail for clipped. And I thought to myself I don't want to do this. I would not want to have this done. I'm almost certain that this is people imposing their freaking preferences because that's what people do. But let me take to the internet and see what people have to say. I'm pretty sure there are going to be people touting Pros as "health benefits" and "must do's for the benefit of the animal". This is the first video I came across in my research. That extremely beautiful doctor confirmed my pre research feelings and thoughts. But I still got to search for the other side's arguments. I never know these practices were illegal in the UK. Good for you.

    I watch the channel “the dodo” all the time, and very loving owners were considering cropping their dogs tail. They had a pit bull and he had a very long and powerful tail he would wag and bang into everything from being happy and excited. They had to put wraps on it since it was getting damaged all the time. I’m no expert, but that is the only reason I would ever consider something like this. Had no idea they did that to Dobermans. That is horrible.

    At least keep it as humane as possible. Just because it is for fashion doesn’t means the animal can’t feel it, even if they are puppies.

      Ears literally makes no difference other than so called “fear factor” and even then it makes no difference. If a doberman is snarling, showing its teeth and barking I don’t think anyone in the right mind would choose to approach whether its ears are cropped or not.

      What I find is that people are having their 8~12 week old puppies go through a painful process. I know in veterinary offices, the puppies are under anesthesia during the process, but once the puppy's awake? Horrible. They're in pain, they're crying and confused.
      It's clearly only a cosmetic surgery since it's so common in certain breeds. You don't see labs, retrievers, cocker spaniels, etc having their ears cropped.

    I recognize that you are certified vets, therefore you know far more than me, but I'm left with the question, ¿Why does ear cropping get such a bad rep? Considering it is mutilation, it is unnatural and completely useless, however, spaying and neutering is often practiced, and I would say that, if you don't want your dog to breed, take responsibility for it, beware around dogs if you have a bitch in heat, keep your male dog on a leash in breeding season, there's no reason to spay/neuter, it's just the owner's decision to go the easy way, causing hormonal imbalances and other issues on the way, please correct me if I'm wrong

    • @teashark9878
      @teashark9878 3 года назад +9

      Neutering/Spaying isn't done for aesthetic reasons. It helps immensely reduce ovarian cancer for females and testicular cancer for males, and of course, no accidental pregnancies. Typically females should be spayed before the first heat while males usually around 1 year as by that time, males have all the necessary hormones they need.
      It also helps decrease aggression within male towards other males, as many unfixed males will start fighting over an female in heat.
      Of course, this isn't always the case for EVERY dog, but it is pretty common.

    Just like breast implants, botox injections, circumcision, piercings, tattoos...if not performed professionally and properly bad things can happen. Otherwise the results are benign and personal.
    And why target something as trivial as ear cropping? Why not spend the energy trying to make Ballet illegal?
    Because trust me, what women do to themselves to match the criteria of Ballet is much worse.
    Many very well educated people, and very well trained veterinarians don't have a problem at all with ear cropping being performed professionally. There is really nothing wrong with it. There are very specific intentions behind it.
    Veterinarians should be begging people to allow them to perform the operation in a safe and well established professional environment. otherwise the practice just all goes to the underground, making things much worse for both the owner and the dog.
    There are thousands upon thousands of very happy dogs that live very happy lives that have had their ears cropped. The dogs really don't care about it, they don't have the same opinions and feelings humans have. The short period of time posting the ears is just a minor annoyance for both the owner and the dog. There is no trauma unless the entire cropping gets botched, which is very unlikely.
    Do you really think people are going to spend $3,000-$10,000+ for a Doberman and risk destroying their beloved pet+protectors ears? No, they are going to do it with care and attention to detail.
    Just like a circumcised man, they live their life without any issues.
    There are women (and men) that will only date men who have been circumcised. That's an issue, don't you think?
    People forget what Dobermans were designed for. In fact many many people don't even know.
    People should respect that Dobermans were designed by one man (Karl Dobermann), for a very specific reason.
    Karl Dobermann did such a good job in his creation, that the Doberman is still worth breeding today. Why? Because humans and other animals still try murdering one another, and a Doberman instinctively prevents that. It's a beautiful instinct to have.
    Dobermans have been preserved by men, for a very intelligent reason.
    And there is nobody that can honestly say that an uncropped Doberman looks more intimidating than a cropped Doberman.
    A Doberman with cropped ears will make a criminal think twice about entering into your home and doing irreversible harm to you and your family. And if all it took was a stoic look and cropped ears to keep them out, both the family and the Doberman would vote for cropped ears, every time.
    Even if you take a stance against the practice, you should still respect the design.
    Everyone should respect the history.
    Some people think Dobermans are "Aggressive" dogs.
    In fact, they are "Protective" dogs.
    There is a difference between the two, and a protection dog should be politely respected.
    Go after people that abandon their dogs, your time will be better spent.

    • @OurPetsHealth
      @OurPetsHealth  3 года назад +2

      Does a Doberman benefit in any way from having their ears cropped? Is having a surgical procedure where skin and cartilage are cut through really benign? Are the dogs themselves choosing to have their ears cropped to boost their own self esteem? Does having their ears cropped change their protective instincts? Does the fact that because one worse thing is happening mean we should ignore anything else we believe to be wrong?
      No

    • @markhoffman
      @markhoffman 3 года назад +7

      Yes, absolutely to most of your questions.
      Why do you think wolves, foxes etcetera... All have ears that are naturally standing up? It should be clear, it gives them an advantage in their environment. Cropping a dogs ears are putting them back into their natural position and their advantageous state. How did you miss that in your research?
      Also try to keep in mind that Veterinarians are not dog psychologists. Even though they try to come across as such.
      The thin tail of a doberman was never intended to be grown out, it's why the creator Karl Dobermann docked it. Karl Doberman would being doing a face palm if he saw all the dobermans with their thin tails whipping around, vulnerable to breakage.
      That thin tail can break very easily, and the floppy ears can become injured and infected easily.
      Dobermans are working dog's, they thrive on serving and protecting their Family. Anything else and that dog is living an unfulfilled life.
      Veterinarians really like charging top dollar for tail repairs and surgeries, and those ear infection kits have a really good profit in them!
      Cropping ears with a laser is really effective, advanced and modern veterinarians know this.
      Men and women get laser surgery to correct their eyes, and to reduce ingrown hairs.
      The problem with making cropping illegal is it pushes the practice to the underground, which is much worse for the dogs welfare.
      Also, if the breed standard can not be maintained, breeders will stop breeding the Doberman, and it's gene pool will exponentially decrease and eventually the breed will be extinct.
      Do you really want the beautiful and smart Doberman extinct, because your feelings get hurt thinking about a practice that has been safely done for over a hundred years?

I find it disgusting that vets give all these chemicals/vax/meds and expect you to come in monthly or quarterly to make loads of money when they can give you or direct you to natural remedies and feed. kibble they prescribe is just an expensive bag of fluff. Dogs can be fed raw or lightly cooked daily for way cheeper and that way you know what is in their food and what they do or don’t need.

    There is NOTHING mean about cropping and docking a PUPPY or circumcising a baby boy or piercing a baby girls ears! Get over it and stop making things illegal and allow owners or parents CHOOSE. Doing it when they are adults is mean...Get over yourselves. If you think it is mean don't do it. Most of these crybabies see nothing wrong with aborting human babies but get all upset over something stupid. Everyone...mind your own business!

    Will somebody explain why ear cropping is frowned upon, yet castrating and spaying is perfectly ok, sending their hormones out if synch. Men have been fixing dogs for their own mean for decades. That’s why bulldogs cant breathe and German Shepherds have bad hips. Castration is mutilation. Hypocrites.

    • @teashark9878

      Neutering/Spaying isn't done for aesthetic reasons. It helps immensely reduce ovarian cancer for females and testicular cancer for males, and of course, no accidental pregnancies. Typically females should be spayed before the first heat while males usually around 1 year as by that time, males have all the necessary hormones they need.
      It also helps decrease aggression within male towards other males, as many unfixed males will start fighting over an female in heat.
      Of course, this isn't always the case for EVERY dog, but it is pretty common.
      The breeding issues today are due to the folks who kept on breeding the dogs with awful genetics such as backyard breeders & puppy mills.
      Ear cropping is nothing more than aesthetic. You could tell me it's for ear infections, but then all floppy eared dogs would be getting their ears cropped. People need to remember that cleaning is also essential for these ears. Weekly ear cleaning would help a bunch of dogs who get ear infections.

    Your opinion is so ridiculous and offensive while neutering and removing dewclaws are legal which I believe these two surgery are more inhuman and such a narrow minded people like you are trying to follow things that beneficial for themselves not dogs or any animals . Please keep your opinion for yourselves and don’t try to decide for other people and dog lovers by raising a ridiculous campaign to make it illegal to import the breed that they love

      You know you can buy them with their ears intact. Not sure last time I took back dew claws off, not appropriate for vast majority of dogs. Neutering has clear benefit for most so long as timed appropriately. And even if you don’t agree with it that doesn’t detract from the fact that Ear cropping literally just cosmetic with no benefit to the dog. Who’s narrow minded?

    bruh declawing a cat is no where near as close to this. i don’t even like cats and i can say that’s far worse than ear cropping. you’re taking away their right to defend themselves, climb something. ear cropping doesn’t harm them during, after ,and in years to come. it has no long term affects. sure it can be painful, it’s a surgery. but yk what had more risks than ear cropping? spay/neutering. spay/neutering isn’t necessary at all. maybe learn to control and actually take care of yours dogs so they won’t be running around getting other dogs pregnant. ear cropping also doesn’t hit any bones or anything. and lastly you can’t tell someone what to do with their dog, cause if anything you’re only gonna make them wanna do it more. so maybe just mind yalls business. 🙂

    • @OurPetsHealth
      @OurPetsHealth  3 года назад

      I can tell someone that in my professional opinion what they are doing is completely wrong and has no justification. If they choose to ignore me and mutilate their dog then that that is on them.
      Yes, I agree that declawing is worse but that doesn't make this right. Spay neuter is a much more complex + nuanced situation that I agree is not right for everybody and every dog

      @@OurPetsHealth with all due respect, removing the natural production of steroidal hormones from animals (specially males) are far from benefitial. Actually, there is no worse mutilation than not allowing a puppy to get his/her fully development due to neutering in early age. The effects of agonadism or hypogonadism (even with very few research papers done so far) in animals seem to be similar to those shown in humans such as cardiac issues, loss of bone mass, depression, obesity etc.
