You crushed it! 🔥
I made this song when I was obsessed with Tigran Hamasyan... Actually my view of time signature in this song was in eight notes. 5/8 3/8 5/8 4/8 3/8, but I was counting 5/8 TakiDidami 3/8 Takida 5/8 TakiDidami 4/8 Takidimi 3/8 Takida... of course there is 4/4 part and some changes in end part.
Zack: Hey Kristaps what time signature is this in?
Kristaps: Yes.
Killer stuff man!!
As a fellow Tigran fan, I recognised what you were up to! Mock root is one of my all time favourite albums.
Have you got a name for this track?
Really cool composition!! He's right about the Dark Zelda vibes, and it's awesome
I think he chined it
@@infinitydrumming Kristaps Pucens - Rage
anything can be 4/4 if you try hard enough
Counterpoint: Everything is in 1/8 and nothing is real
@@TillyP 😮
Everything is 4/4 if you stop counting like a nerd
@TillyP countercounterpoint: music can be divided by 1/1024 time and everything lines up
@@oyc7946good luck counting 7/8 in 4/4
I love an aggressive, dark jazz sound.
Any recommendations?
@sebastianschellhase738 I like the stuff Mike Mitchell and Greg Spero have done. Look into them.
@sebastianschellhase738 I would look into the stuff Mike Mitchell and Greg Spero have done. Mitchell is an insane jazz drummer whose playing is also heavily influenced by metal. Also, the stuff Matt Garstka has done outside of Animals as Leaders. More specifically, check out stuff he's done with Louis de Mieulle.
@@sebastianschellhase738 not the op, but this reminds me of the first track from 'The OC Jazz Collective - Chronology: A Jazz Tribute to Chrono Trigger' though this is more sharper edged
@@mattdrewdrums thanks. I will dig into it.
Bruh!!!!! I want an entire Jazz-core album now.
Check out Tigran Hamasyan
@@bastiaanstam9713 Nice. Just listened to the Berklee recording of Drip. Not quite the same feel as Zach's piece here, but I like it. Has similar vibes to Sungazer.
Check out Trioscapes. They only put out 2 albums but they were phenomenal. Bassist for prog metal band "Between the Buried and Me" formed that band, and it pretty much sounds like crazy complex prog metal but with sax and jazz flute and no vocals. The music in this video fits perfectly with the stuff they put out.
ckeck out Kanaan
Tigran Hamasyan entertain me, it's the closest to the song in the video, or The grid, out of the grid, just check his mockroot album
If these videos are easy for you to make, please make more of them. I love the process, your drummer, and the community participation.
That was insanely cool ! It sounds like a Tigran Hamasyan song
aaah thanks! i came here to see if anyone else would reference tigran hasyan, such an amazing composer
Guys he said the thing
Yeah almost exactly
This. Yes. Indubitably.
Ever since I heard the beat switch in The Comet is Coming's Tiny Desk performance of "Super Zodiac", I realized the world absolutely needs more jazz songs with hard-hitting breakdowns.
w pfp
Nice pfp bro
@@sirdo946 Huh, it seems I've stumbled onto two fellow Tesseract enjoyers. I'm sorry I don't belong to the altered state pfp club
@@diacoal2433 nah man I'm excited people have different opinions on which album they love best.
Every one sounds distinct from each other.
@@jamescruz8678 True, each one has its own thing going on. I don't think I could pick one absolute favourite though
"Thank You Scientist" style, basically. You're great, Zack!
commented the same thing before I saw yours. I saw them live as an opener and it was the happiest i've ever been to hear a band i never heard before
@@wholewheat1 I'd love to see them, but i'm from Brazil, is almost impossible. A really good band.
@@oroque492I saw them in 2017 on their first UK tour. Unfortunately some sound issues (particularly with the microphone) took place, BUT the vocalist was hilarious. He took my friends massive bar of Toblerone (An English chocolate) and sang into it instead and then came and moshed with us in the crowd. After that, we all chanted "One of Us" and the whole band did an improv to the chant. It was a shame, but also absolutely one of the best shows still. I got to chat to the electric violin player, Ben, after the show. He is just awesome!
I haven’t listened to a lot but they are very good 👍
It's closer to Clown Core, in my opinion.
That was absolutely fkn wild. I could listen to music like this 24/7. Something about the drumming style that's at once so progressive but with Jazz foundations and cymbal tones and the style of saxophone (the best horn there is) brings so much energy but at the same time is so relaxing and helps me create and sustain a comfortable flow state as well as a rush of this strange nostalgia that's difficult to describe of things that feel so familiar to me but that I can't remember ever having experienced. Anyway, I'm probably nuts but that's some killer stuff.
It's fascinating how music has the power to evoke nostalgia and stir emotions that are sometimes hard to put into words. You're definitely not nuts.
Listen to the album "Separate Realities" from Trioscapes. Definitely a similar vibe.
you can listen to badbadnotgood most of the day?
@@armansenson2864 awesome sound by these guys! Thanks for the reference!
24/7 is a great tempo to come up with something... Ain't it?
It's like if Snarky puppy and zackgrooves got together to perform an epic piece. Great Job to everyone involved with this one!!!!
best comment
This needs to be released i would listen to this non stop
As a metalhead who dabbles in jazz and r&b this was absolutely amazing to me. Really loved it.
it has massive prog metal potential
Tigran Hamasyan. As soon as possible. His music is exactly what you are looking for. He blends Armenian folk influences, jazz, and prog metal with the piano as the primary instrument. His drummer is absolutely insane. Vardavar, Vortex (ft Tosin Abasi), Drip, and Shoger Jan are some tracks to get you started. One from a few different albums. He’s a god.
Please give someone the chance to lay down a bassline for this one! This is an absolute banger
Agree
Agreed
I've never heard anything like that combo at the end...man what a great track!
try the band TRAM its Tosin Abasi
The saxophone guy went real phrygian with the melody. He knew the assignment and he taught the assignment how to djent.
It gives me secret of the unknown from Fredrik Thordendal of Meshuggah mixed with some Tigran Hamasyan vibe which is absolutely gorgeous, really a treat to my ears, keep providing us with stuff like that, props to Kristaps for the original song he has a great musical taste.
Ok ignore the amazing music and hilarious humor in this video for a sec, that is the stankiest most funky drum kit I've ever seen and I'm loving it?????
Bro I never even stopped to think about the time signature while I was playing it 😂 I still don't know what it is.
it's actually insane watching your hands and feet move so independently of each other and creating such a free-flowing and masterful sounding drum groove. Awesome stuff
0:47 could be a Tigran Hamasyan song, especially because of the beatboxing at the beginning
Yessss !
That's exactly what I came here to say!
The ending reminds me a lot of the ending of Entertain Me
this is copy paste Tigran
the guy who made the song said he was obsesed with tigran hamasyan at the moment
Duude, thats sick, please release this song
I'm just saying...clown core!
😂
True
the whole thing feels very snarky puppy - i love it
You gotta look at Trioscapes! Especially their song Blast Off. It's some epic jazz fusion metal shenannigans.
Definitely seconding this rec, also make sure to check out Nova Collective - Dancing Machines (or literally anything with Dan Briggs really) and Thank You Scientist - Rube Goldberg Variations!
Glad I'm not the only one that can't be bothered to change the windows 11 background
Finally. Someone gets it
Just listen to Automatic Blue by Thank You Scientist. The ending is metal as hell
Bro just essentially made a new Thank You Scientist song (also can we please get an Everything Yes Djazz Album)
This is straight up Prog! Love it . If you enjoy stuff like this you should really check out Joshua de la Victorias solo project "Victoria" and his collabs with Joseph Anijar. They also formed a band called Portraits that's prog /prog metal. My favorite tracks from Victoria would be Kepler and Iris, his collab song with Joseph called "traveller" , and the whole Portraits EP is dope.
Let me tell right now that all jazz is in 4 and has breakdowns when i get ahold of it
gives me some heavy David Bowie Blackstar vibes
Wow, your saxo friend did amazing job on the track! And you as well!
You guys need to do a full recording of this. That was so sick.
Legitimately amazing.
Duuude, this video was definitely worth the wait. I love the sax lead and the drums part is awesome as always. I want more. Common man, just one more hit
This is really like what animals as leaders does sometimes
Nice! Sounds like a Cameron Graves song haha
Man! That gives me Tigran Hamasyan vibes. The song “The Grid”.
That ad had me rolling 🤣
thank you scientist
has to be the coolest jazz song I've ever listened to
Damn, besides the deathcore video, this one of the heaviest song that Zack have played. (Just my opinion though) That could be from Tigran Hamasyan honestly.
Also, that Temporal Stack seems REALLY tight!
naa that quick ad was jokes 2:30 bro said "ok turn around"😂
this felt super thomas pridgen-era mars volta, i dig it
Man, that jam at the end took me straight to Shubh Saran feels. Kickass job.
Who is that? Are you thinking many people watching this video will know who that is?

oh my god this was amazing you both killed it, it has such a Nintendo vibe to it even the sax reminds me of some of the soundtracks on the latest Mario kart 8, it just sounds so badass!
That's a fantastic song right there at the end and Im waiting for a complete version in the streaming platforms, thanks
Genius , I’m shaking my head

This is the best Mars Volta video on RUclips.
Fucking love this, incredible collab.
Excited to see Everything yes in Toronto! Youre super creative and precise 🔥
Dude, this slaps so hard.
This was dope as hell! When you brought in the sax, it reminded me a lot of the band Marbin.
So happy to have witnessed you grow over all the years. You truly have an amazing skill and tons of hard work to show for it. Killin out here boi
This guy's a great musician and his facial expressions when deciphering this song and making the accompaniment was absolutely hilarious!
You deserve sooooo many more followers. I adore the variation in all your videos. Thanks for sharing your talents with the world! 🌎
Incredible! Thanks for the nice chops as always and your sax player really brought awesomeness to the song!
You nailed it in the best way Zack, cd quality version of this much appreciated. Will buy it
When I heard the flanging appear on the drum transition, I hit the subscribe thing without a second thought. Fab work!
This end result is an absolute banger! Awesome stuff!
Was playing some of the Portnoy drumeo videos for my little boys (9 and 6) only the little guy was into Portnoy... I thought hmm lemme check out Zack, they both LOVED this video, wish I could send a clip of them laughing their ass off to this, props to you man. So just gotta say you are better than Portnoy, according to my lil homies 🤗
That’s so wholesome 😭 tell the little homies I said hi!
@@ZackGrooves the oldest is making a big claim that he's going to try to watch all of your videos now.. his initial reaction was just giggles and then sayin "he's real?!" I said buddy you watched a video of him playing of course he's real lmao. They have my old drum set, and I let them play with my current drum set sometimes now, in the process of building the drum room though so they can't play this second but I think they will be pretty inspired in the next few weeks when I'm done. Thanks for the response G, seems you have had an impact on two little drummers in Ohio, and myself included, I gotta get that room finished for them asap
Been waiting for a video on this track since you posted that clip on Instagram, tysm 🙏🏼
That was incredible! Love this sound
Definitely do more of these, this turned out so sick!
Utterly nails the ending groove with pure $ precise percussive punctuation, and says "idk, somethin like that" 🤣
Oh, and I'd say 1st groove for the front half of the phrase into 2nd groove from there.
Drums on fire, sax on fire, Tigran obsession and Dark Zelda vibes... Pure Rage! 🤘🔥
Dude you're amazing! Beautiful music!
Loved this! More please
Thanks for posting made my day
Yeeeeeees new video
This is heavy as fuck! Need a full Djazz album lol
That polyphonic sax is incredible! Sick song you made out of this one!
When you said email at the start it really reminded me of homestarrunner so thanks for the wave of nice nostalgia!
That was amazing. Inspiring!
When I saw the title, I immediatly thought of tigran hamasyan .
He is an Amazing jazz pianist and you can definitly hear some djent
I mean, for example listen to his song "out of the grid"
Have a good day
Bro I made the nastiest stank face to that final take. And I don’t think there’s any higher honor than that
Man this the most insanest insaneful insane insanity I've ever heard
The Mars Volta vibes!
Damn dude your kit was built for CHOPS. Sounds soooo NICE. From the cymbal selection to the tuning of the heads. Good shtuff.
This gives off a little bit of Univers Zero. Fantastic work.
I want that song in my playlist
Strong Ronald Shannon Jackson meets Thomas Pridgen feels on a lot of your skin slappin here!!
Dude with the drums, and when the saxes came in, i was mad vibin. Props to whoever wrote the song
Wow!! Jazz core magic!!❤
That backing track was already cool, but you both turned it in to a feicken masterpiece, and now I want it. P.S. European Tour? 😉
Please make more of this music. Incredible.
Absolutely crazy how Punx has pervaded everything… As I’m previously watching Converge (2001) lives. I think about this often, always have. I love the scene I’m in. We won.

Groove idea 2 was fine af !!
Heck yeah dude. Good stuff 🔥✊
"dark zelda" is such a spot-on description lol
Holy shit, I didn’t know you were part of Everything Yes! I found you guys on Spotify a couple of months ago and it’s been on my repeat work playlist since!
This sounds badass!!
Total Thank You Scientist vibes through some that. Great job man!!!
