    When my Burkes Parakeet lost her brother and then two other bird friends she became very depressed. I didn’t know what to do at first because I knew she probably would die slowly. I was working at the time and it was very hard to comfort her all day. So I decided to set up an iPad with all day Cockatiels, Berks parakeet and Love birds Avery site on RUclips. She is now a much happier bird and she now has company all day. It works because she is now 16 years old. She would not have lived more than a year. Just thought I would share my experience.

    Imo, as long as an animal has the will to survive and overcome struggles, we have to help as best as possible. Instead of put them to sleep because they are a burden to us, as their owner.

    We have four special needs Yorkies and they are loved. When the time comes and they stop eating or are in pain with no quality of life left they will tell me. Right now they are happy and healthy. We only go out to get food or to the Doctors without them. Otherwise they are strapped into their booster puppy seats in the back. We will never be alone again or have any kind of holiday outside of our caravan.
    So far they have cost us around $50,000.00 of our pension fund and we didn’t have a lot when we retired. My husband when he pays another bill tells me we cannot plan to live as long as he had planned. We don’t regret any of it. Since I was small I could look at a litter and know if one would be sick. We paid full price for all of them because the breeder didn’t know what I did and I cannot let them be put down because they don’t want to pay.
    Last night was fireworks on the beach in front of our house but we know what time so three were in our room with the door, windows and shutters closed, air conditioning on and music playing.
    Our littlest girl is Belle and she never had much sight. Now she can only see dark and light. My husband carried all 2 kilo’s of her out the front on the grass next to the beach. Everytime one explodes she makes a little ohh sound. She is sure the fireworks are just put. on for her. She puts her little front paws up when she makes the ohh sound. There were more people watching Belle love the fireworks than watching them. When she came back in she spent 5 minutes telling the others about them. She also has a collapsing trachea which causes her to cough or choke.
    Three of them have collapsing trachea’s. The youngest is Mica and he was born without Vitamin D. A Yorkie Mother supplies half of their Vitamin D with her milk but he missed out because she had 5 puppies. He smashed both front legs just playing, he has had both legs operated on twice but he cannot have anymore surgeries. The last one left him with no control over his heart rate or body heat. He has crooked front legs but he plays and is happy. He is a funny little one and mostly mine, he makes me laugh. Luca is the only one without a collapsing trachea. He has PICA and Celiac’s Disease. He may burst from being overweight and we cannot find where he has hidden food this time. He is the most loving and happy one. He has been healthy since we removed all grains from his diet. PICA makes him eat things like kitchen sponges so not much in our home is at his height. We threw out all of our kitchen sponges 2 years ago but he still has a couple somewhere. The eldest is Lucia but she is called Chia, she keeps the others in line. Chia has a collapsing trachea and a knee cap that will not stay in place. She had the worst trachea but little Belle has now.
    Each one is different and wonderful. They may not have long lives but they will have their best lives. They are a lot of work and my husband is my carer. We are not young and I can see how tired he is getting so I have been making his load a little lighter each day.
    Our babies can’t be separated or just given away. Not many people want four special needs dogs. If the day comes when cannot meet their financial needs or we cannot physically keep caring for them. Our two youngest children are girls that live three States away, the babies love them both. They live 15 minutes apart and they will share them. They just have to take all four at once each turn.
    No one can tell that taking mine and loving them is wrong. Chia just turned eight, Luca is nearly 7, Belle is just 5 and Mica is 3. They are all loved and happy.

      and then all the costs for the prosthetics, the doctors time, the anesthesiologists time, whatever other surgical assistants were needed time, the nurses that kept an eye on the animal post-op time, kennel fees if the animal had to be kept for overnight, all the meds ect...

      @@prcervi not on Bondi Vets. Dr. Scott Miller in England looks after many pet even abandoned pets from animal charities as well as pets in park (homeless people's pets) as volunteer. Dr. Chris Brown in Australia goes to people's farms treat special disable animals as well as people bring in animals that are found abandoned operates on them then finds them a new home. He even helped a family who had a dog that needed surgery an every vet said it would cost too much and would not let them pay until it was paid off. Chris was contacted and flew the dog and her owner to where the small animal hospital to see a specialist. Chris paid for everything but the surgeon's fee and the surgeon gave his services free. Then Chris took the dog back to the owner's home!!!!! What do you have to say about that!!!!!!

    I've never understood "putting an animal down." What if we treated people like that? "Mrs. Hawking, your son Stephen has amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. He'll never walk or speak. I recommend we put him down."

    I'm only at the beginning of this but it's very uncomfortable as a disabled person to hear disabled animals spoken about as a novelty or as automatically having no quality of life. They're speaking about these owners as if they are laughable for going through such lengths to meet their pets' basic needs.

    • @kerseykrewzoo
      @kerseykrewzoo Год назад +3

      To me it doesn't seem like they're laughing at them, but trying to show others that just because an animal is different or differently abled doesn't mean it's an automatic death sentence for them. They've shown many different disabilities and ways that they can help or treat them.

    • @kerseykrewzoo
      @kerseykrewzoo Год назад +1

      @@monkaholic100 I would never presume to tell anyone how they should or shouldn't feel. I was just offering another perspective on the subject and explaining how I saw things. My oldest son is Autistic and I've had to deal with people judging him and myself when he screams out of frustration when we're in public or stims or when people see a 13 year old in a diaper because he struggles with potty training so I do understand where you're coming from. I definitely didn't mean to upset or confuse you and for that I apologize. Just offering a different way to look at things is all. Hope you have a wonderful Holiday season.

    • @monkaholic100
      @monkaholic100 Год назад +2

      @@kerseykrewzoo Thank you for your offering but I'd already considered that perspective before you commented and still could not rattle my discomfort. It's very nuanced but as a disabled person there's a very fine line between admiration towards the way we adapt and voyeurism/ridicule/novelty and to me this video teetered slightly towards novelty.
      In addition to being disabled I cared for a disabled and medically complex cat for a year and a half before he succumbed to his most serious condition and he required 24-hour care and significant modifications to my house for his safety. I know most people would not have gone through the efforts I did, and even as an owner I would be uncomfortable being spoken about as these owners were. Happy holidays 🙂

      You sound as if you might be a Mormon or Latter Day Saint if you prefer. According to that religion, only 144k will be taken up during the Rapture. All the remaining billions of us, according to this religion will be, as you say, LEFT BEHIND. Those are terrible odds and seems pretty exclusionary.
