So interesting. This is something you will remember the rest of your life. Our family got to tour one of the Morton salt mines in Grand Saline Tx. about 60 years ago. We live not to far from the mine. The mine is still working but they no longer have tours. We went down in a battery operated elevator and all the lights and equipment, even the trucks were run on batteries. They had tunnels like what you were in but ours was solid white salt. They even let us bring home some of the pieces of the salt. Something most people don't know or think about is Morton's canning and pickling salt is pure salt with no additives.

I grew up Hutchinson, KS. They produce a lot of table salt. It wasn't until I left for college that they sank a new shaft and opened the salt mine up for visits. My parents went down in the mine when they were kids through school. One of these weekends I want to go home and take a tour. They store all the old movie reels down there. When I went looking for my old medical records it took a while to get them because, they had to send someone down into the mine where they store records and other items to go get them. Pretty cool trip!

I just found your channel! I grew up in Syracuse Ny. Which is famous for SALT MINES!!! Our main street..is called "Salina st". Our mines were worked by Irish and Italian workers. One of the foods Syracuse is famous for, are called "Salt Potatoes". The Irish workers wives would pack small potatoes, and chunks of butter in their lunchesAt the mine, they would fill a cauldron with water, take a hunk of salt from the mine, boil the potatoes in the heavily salted water..and melt the butter to dip them in. It is a GREAT WAY to use up small potatoes...they are so good

I used to use Redmans Real Salt years ago but found it to be a little gritty because of all the minerals. If you were the one unlucky enough to get the last bowl of soup from the soup pot you got all the grit from the salt. It was for only that reason that I stopped using it. However, seeing your tour has motivated me to give it another try. I love that it’s local and I love their practices. Thanks Becky!

My mom used Revere Ware for years. When she passed I got most of her cooking pots which included her Revere Ware. I love it. It's easily cleaned if I scorch something. one thing I always cook with is my cast iron skillet. Once seasoned properly, it is non-stick. Again I inherited mine from my mother. I make cornbread, fry meats, make drop biscuits, and a whole bunch of other stuff. You don't have to clean it much. I have my dad's filet knife I use to filet meats and fish. One thing I'm very careful with is my mom's candy thermometer. It contains mercury in the bulb and I watch it like a hawk and treat it like a fragile egg BUT it is more accurate than the modern candy thermometers.

Thank you❣ How much salt per cup of water? Thank you again. I wish I knew this a long time ago. I always used crushed asprin or the packet the florist put with the flowers 💐.
