A broken ice machine you say, odds are you gonna be there all day.
Never cleaned in all these years, about to be rinsed in technician tears.
Water sensor always failing, iceguide pieces into the tray is hailing.
Clean it drain it all for hours, until the madness overpowers.

These are some of the best HVACR videos. I used to run maintenance for a restaurant chain in the midwest. These videos bring me back to those days. I've since moved on to running large compound operations overseas. I love to see my roots during your videos. Your stepped approach ensures nothing is overlooked. Kudos to your method of training those less experienced.

I'm a restaurant manager, I enjoy your videos learning what the techs do that come out when I put in a service call. I would love a video where you go over what equipment brands, models, etc you recommend for new equipment purchases. You would probably know best what equipment brands are easy to work on, last long, well built, and which brands are complete garbage. I've had numerous techs tell me avoid True, the management before me bought all True as as pieces fail, I am looking for what brands to purchase.

I guess my OCD kicks in when I see electrical wiring in a mess as that ice machine had on the roof unit. I can't understand why some HVAC tech would leave it like that knowing they may be the one to come back and work it. I know you take your time and do a proper re-wire and I'm glad you do. That shows concern for the customer.

in the automotive world, older cars had a similar thermostatic switch which ran decent current, and they failed often. A fix I would do would be replace the switch and have it run a relay and let the relay take the load. id never see the car again for that issue. nowadays obv cars have a thermistor and the fans are relay or pwm controlled via the computer. no doubt there are better ways to do it, but a relay increased the reliability to the point of being a fit and forget item.

When I was at Manitowoc for factory training, the instructor actually admitted that the fan cycling control had a bad production run, and they had switched suppliers. Yet the issue remains.
I think your solution is the best thing for the customer. It avoids the inevitable call back when the fan cycling control fails again.

Using the vids as a teaching tool, GREAT IDEA. Also, it could be that you have a rare fault, but memory may tell you about it and you can drag it out to show your people what happened that earlier time.

Chris "contactor" strikes again.... any reason to replace a contactor, any and this one was a reach! You must own stock in the contactor manufacturers. lol Just joking around, don't take it seriously.
As far as cleaning up wires, as OCD I am and like things neat, I do make an exception to leave high current conductors a little long. That way if you get a loose and hot connection there is enough wire to cut it back to good copper and you don't have to replace a whole run. Function over form in this case, as long as you can make it look nice and not stuff a box with excess. Of course if it's 12" run or so not a big deal. But something running through conduit from a disconnect or something I always try to leave extra, as long as I can. Nothing worse than finding a loose connection, bad wire and it just doesn't make it once you cut it clean, or now you have just enough to make it fit and looks banjo tight. Short wires can make a 5 minute job an hour of headaches. But, everyone has their own way of doing things and none of them are inherently wrong. Keep the videos coming.

It still needs a pressure control so it would just complicate the matter. I’m just surprised it doesn’t come with a better pressure control device from the factory, considering that’s pretty damn important lol.

Hey man I just got a quick question maybe you might know. Sometimes when I turn my truck on the air conditioner just fails to run and won't make cold air , but if I turn the truck back off and let it sit for about 10 minutes then turn it back on the air conditioner works fine it doesn't happen very often and my company won't bother to fix it!
