Strange choice of video? I heard perhaps ONE Piper in the CROWD at the beginning. It sounds like a brass or silver band playing the Anthem. The big clashing sound of cymbals just doesn't occur in a Pipe Band. I suggest this lady finds another video where you actually see the Pipe band on the pitch , before the Rugby or other Scottish. sporting event.
U shoulda listened to it at the rugby at murrayfield. Not only are there more people but the bagpipes are FAR FAR better. The line piper standing on the roof. And the second verse is done with no music which brings chills!!
I agree as a proud Scotsman, it's a stirring sound to hear the national instrument of Scotland, BUT ... and it is a very big one ... the ironic thing about the tune of Flower Of Scotland, written by Roy Williamson of The Corries in the 1960s, is that it cannot actually be played on the bagpipes: it does not fit the bagpiping scale. The melody has a modal 7th (or a flattened 7th) on the penultimate note of the melody, but because the bagpipes has a limited range of notes, that modal seventh cannot be played on the instrument. You don't notice that the tune is not a bagpipe tune when there is a brass band playing alongside the pipes (as in this video clip) because the brass band CAN play this modal 7th, but you will notice it when the pipes are on their own. It should also be noted that The Corries' song has THREE verses, but only the first and third verses are being sung for the anthem. It may sound sacrilegious of me as a Scotsman to say that Flower Of Scotland is unsuitable to be our National Anthem, but that is my personal opinion. Yes, it's a very emotional, reflective and even patriotic, little folksong, but it's scarcely a rousing battle cry to get the blood pumping through the veins. The French have a great National Anthem called La Marseillaise, and believe it or not, Scotland does have a song that is very much in the same spirit, written by our National Bard Robert Burns, which evokes Robert The Bruce's inspirational address to his troops before the Battle Of Bannockburn in 1314. The song is called Scots Wha Hae ... and glory of glories, the melody is a proper bagpipe tune! SCOTS WHA HAE Scots wha hae wi Wallace bled; Scots wham Bruce has often led, Welcome tae yer gory bed Or tae victory! Now's the day and now's the hour; See the front of battle lour; See approach proud Edward's power, Chains and slavery! Wha will be a traitor's knave? Wha can fill a coward's grave? Wha's sae base as be a slave? Let him turn and flee! Wha for Scotland's King and Law Freedom's sword will strongly draw? Freeman stand or freeman faa Let him follow me! By Oppression's woes and pains; By our sons in servile chains, We shall drain oor dearest veins, But they shall be free! Lay the proud usurpers low, Tyrants fall in every foe! Liberty's in every blow; Let us do or dee! And this is the tune: ruclips.net/video/uVWyGHq7Rqw/видео.htmlI

Away dini talk pish mate lol you've fucked up loads here. God save the king is the official anthem of Britain, not England, not Wales, not Scotland, not N Ireland. We don't have official anthems. Only the UK does as a whole, not the individual entities. That's why they sing god save the king. There yi go pal, it's no even 2pm on a Thursday and you've learned something new.
England has hereditary Monarchy, Scotland does not. The King is King at the behest or perhaps apathetic indifference of the people of Scotland. The King is an ordinary member of the Church of Scotland. Likewise it is for the the people of Scotland to adopt it's own anthem.
I was really disappointed. The Scottish anthem sounded like there were too many people trying to sing it at different rates. Couldn’t pick our a single word and couldn’t hear the bagpipes hardly at all. The German anthem however was clear as a bell. I would love to hear a clear rendition of the Scottish Anthem, if you can find one
And the most ironic thing to me about the second verse is that it sings of "our land that is lost now was oh so dearly held": it has NOT been lost; it STILL is oh so dearly held by every man, woman and child born and bred here and according to the Declaration of Arbroath of 1320, NEVER will be lost, as long as but 100 of us remains alive!

It's not our official national anthem, it is a folk song sung by football supporters. I am Scottish and know people that want "Scotland the Brave" or "Scot wha hae" or "Freedom come ye all" to be our national anthem! It can be any of those songs really because we don't have an official national anthem. Our only official national anthem is the UK anthem, God save the Queen.
@@GloreeyahOnuh Scotland officially has no national anthem under itself as a sovereign country. People that have commented above have erroneously associated it with god save the queen, but that's not how the UK works legally in the Constitution. The anthem god save the queen is the national anthem of the UK, the entity that supposedly exists from the stitching of the four countries - NOT the countries themselves. As such, Scotland, England, Wales, and N.Ireland have no official anthem of their own, but use the legally-unofficial, publically-recognised national anthems for each separate anthem. What confuses this fact is that England blur this distinction and exacerbates relations by using the UK anthem as if it were its own national anthem (instead of say, Jerusalem, Land of Hope & glory, Over The Hills & Far Away, etc.). Not only this, but Scotland retained its old and ancient Scots Law in the Union, specifically retaining the independency of Scotland's law & culture - which includes a national recognition of music, such as Flower of Scotland, through which was extended in the Scotland Act 1999 by the recommencement of the Scottish Parliament: Flower of Scotland, and any other Scottish music used, has EVERY right to be recognised as its National Anthem, and anyone speaking any different (as defined by law) is only talking Scotland down and denying the very rights it kept through union - the Scots themselves, every one, are sovereign by law: they get to decide by their own right, and it so happened since that Flower of Scotland is most recognised as Scotland's National Anthem, whether official or not... Some would argue that the very existence of the fact that the Scots under Scots Law are sovereign, is sufficient in and of itself to make the distinction that Flower of Scotland (helped by polling favourites) IS indeed the OFFICIAL National Anthem. To say or suggest otherwise (as some would) is to deny Scotland her claimed equal-partnership in this union, and her independent-use of her ancient Law that was kept in agreement of the union 1707.

You're probably right but Flower of Scotland came from the people rather than some tune decided by those who know what everyone else should want .It sums up every thing a national anthem should - celebrating past achievements, mourning past losses but even more importantly looking forward to a better future. And a hell of a tune!

As a Scotsman, worse anthem ever, slit wrist time.
Mate you literally have an England flag as your profile picture ya wee liar
Scotland doesnt have a national anthem
We do ....you absolute 🤡
It doesn’t but most of Scotland is in agreement that flower of Scotland is our national anthem. None of that god save the queen pish
@@Brownielottie i never knew you done a survey. You should give it to the scottish parliament cause even they cant decide.
You're probably right but Flower of Scotland came from the people rather than some tune decided by those who know what everyone else should want .It sums up every thing a national anthem should - celebrating past achievements, mourning past losses but even more importantly looking forward to a better future. And a hell of a tune!
The Scottish national anthem is actually God Save The Queen.
Bagpipes do sound amazing.
Scotland and Wales have their own Anthems and Flags. Northern Ireland does not.
I am a Shetlander and we have a anthem and a flag. That why we have the British Anthem and flag. So we can all stand under it together. I really hope the SNP don't get Independence I love being British. If I was forced to choose a side. God Save The Queen.
@@pauljohnson1664 we will always stand together. I met some Shetlanders when I lived in Scotland, great guys. SNP are no friend to Scots unfortunately.
