Actually, count me as one of the few who does NOT want to see a sequel to "Minus One". That movie is so great in itself, that I would like to leave it alone and have them tackle something else. But I don't think that is going to happen. Luckily, we have Yamazaki doing this and I have all the faith in the world, that he will do this justice to this new movie.
Great news to start off this month with! The one thing that the Reiwa era has been missing is consistency. It’s got to be a sequel! I’ve got my fingers crossed for Anguirus and Varan.
Finally not another reboot movie, I personally hope that this time because Minus One was basically a remake of the first film that the sequel will be a remake of Raids again, and that finally, FINALLY we might get to see Angurius but as a proper rival or threat to Godzilla for his reintroduction just like how it first debuted. Angurius is basically like the second landfall for kaiju, that more creatures will be awakened and are still lurking in the world outside of Godzilla and that horror should be preserved.
I have been seeing People saying "The next film Will feature Hedorah". This is based on on what the director said in a convention, answering to the question of what old Godzilla movie he would like to have a remake. He said he found Hedorah is a very interesting character and would like to know how can be brought to life for the big screen with the modern technology. I feel it is too soon to say Hedorah Will be in, because this depends if the Movie Will be directly connected with Minus One or not. We know Minus One was a hit, so is highly probably the new film could be a direct sequel in order to take advantage of the hype, plus Yamazaki said one time he would like to see what would happen on the lives of the characters he presented on his first film, and it is very implied it Will be done ever since the Movie had 2 heavy cliffhangers: Noriko's current condition and, of course, Godzilla regenerating again. I am not sure how Hedorah could fit on such scenario, because the new film should be placed some Years after the events in Minus One, and I dunno how polluted was Japan during early 50's. Remember Hedorah's film is placed after 70's, where there were already records of high levels of pollution on certain prefectures, that was part of the message that Yoshimitsu Banno wanted to show; even the film recreates an incident ocurred back then on real life: when Hedorah was flying over a school, there was a teacher with student's making excercise, then they collapsed when inhaled the poison gas. Again, something similar occurred on certain prefecture, where the students got affected by the low quality of the air that time. The thing is that some Historical events should coincide to allow Hedorah to appear, and it is not sure if those occurred on the Era portrayed in Minus One film

Toho would have to be crazy to not make a sequel to "Minus One" because of how well it did in Japan and internationally, as well as the two major things you mentioned. I've got my theories as to how it's going to go based on the snippets I've heard, but I'll reserve comment until I find out more. Mr, Yamazaki did a great job on the last one, let's see if he can make lightning strike twice!
He said if he does another one, it would be about the same characters, and "consequences" would be important. I think it should be a trilogy, going into the Cold War, next 60s, and then the late 80s, showing them getting older & still facing Kaijus. A bit like the "Half Century War" comic, which is quite good. Why the Cold War? Nuclear deterrence, which was pretty scary, and that would get the Kaijus attention. Maybe they feed on it, maybe they hate it because they were born of mutation by WMD tests, proving them to be more intelligent than just brutish animals.
