  • The 17. of May is our national day, the constitution day of Norway. The day is usually celebrated locally, people will gather at their local school, someone might hold a short speach and the children (and sometimes their parents too) will walk in a small parade and wave with flags. In Oslo however, all the schools merge together and holds one huge parade down the main street and across the Palace Square. And every year the royal family come out on the balcony to watch the whole parade.
King Harald is 86 years old, he has been sick for a couple of weeks, he came out of the hospital two days ago, and today he stood on the balcony for 3 hours, greeting the people.

A Magnificent Spectacle that I hope NEVER disappears!!! A beautiful show of love for a country built by hard work and sacrifice of families who came before. It's a needed anchor to history and heritage, and a reminder of culture and values for all Norwegians to aspire to in the future!! Hip hip hurra Norge

I have direct ancestral connection to Norway and often fantasized about living there. Exploring my DNA, what is classified as Swedish DNA encompasses most of Norway Denmark, north coastal Germany, Holland, Scotland and Iceland. Do to the conquest in distant history, commerce and Swedish DNA being dominant while what is classified as Norwegian DNA is shown as coastal south western Norway. So DNA testing dosent take into consideration family history combined with political history. Interestingly majority of my family history fits in to Northern Germany, Holland and Norway.❤

She is a graduate student this year. It is a tradition in the royal family, this one time in their life, they don't have to be on the balcony. They can celebrate the day with their friends and classmates.
