Graphically it's phenomenal for a cart based game released in '95. I was lucky enough to get an MVS cart of Pulstar a few months ago and man it's an ass kicker. I need to re-visit this again and get cracking at it. What I do like is that in AES mode, you get to choose from the first 4 stages to start out.
+NeoTurboManiac 78 You can do the same in the MVS version too. After that, it's pure hell. Stage 5 is punishing! I scored my MVS copy for an awesome seller on the Neo forums. He didn't charge me an arm and a leg because I picked up Blazing Star from his as well :D
That's good to know. It's nice to get those kinds of deals online. I lucked out with a Buy It Now or Best Offer aucton, in which the price was much lower than what it typicaly goes for and it was a legit cart.
Interestingly I have yet to purchase one game from eBay for my MVS. Every single game has been purchased through message boards. The same is true for TurboGrafx-16 games. Prices are simply out of control on eBay.

The problem is that there is too much inconsistency in prices. You have these shill auctions which artificlally raises the prices and that leads others to do the same thing, thinking they can get big bucks for their games. It's similar to when an undeserving ball player gets a $20 million per year contract, which throws the pay scale way off in that the more deserving players will want more. It sucks that it's done like that. I would purchase through the neo-geo forum, but you have some real assholes on there and I am too old to put up with their nonsense, which is why I don't go there anymore.

vacantseaofplanets Turn on cheats in the front end of MAME then when you boot up the game bring up the MAME heads up display and look for the processor settings. I can't remember exactly what the setting is called as it's been a very long time since I've booted up MAME but it should be easy to find especially if you already have an idea how to set up MAME and navigate around it.
this is a terrific awesome game, the best game on the neogeo in my opnion. I have beaten this game, i think if you can beat level 5 you can beat the entire game from there on out. Too sad shoot em up like these arent made anymore with slower paced thinking and tactics, its just bullet spam none-sense these days.
+Aktuell Russland (RussiaGood) Yeah one Batsugun game out the entire genre changed dramatically to the Danmaku shooter or Bullet Hell shooter style. I like both myself, but almost no one makes this style of shooter anymore. I don't even remember the last one that came out.
+Project COE i got R-Types for the PS1 recently, it has the arcade versions of 1 and 2 in it. I am really liking it so far and its this style i am talking about, do you know any other Shoot em Up like these besides R-Type? Let me know Jared

I used to play 1 credit all the way up to stage 6. I could never pass the part right before the boss when you're swarmed by enemies from all sides. It took a lot of practice but it feels accomplishing.
I like how Blazing Star is the "much easier" of the two games but I can't get past stage 3 on even that :'( Edit: speaking of Neo Geo shooters, are you going to cover Blazing Star or Last Resort?

+Project COE I cant see much of a difference but im not a huge fan of the genre so i really dont think im the best person to ask about it. I enjoy the odd shooter and these are quite enjoyable to play, but after r type and gradius they all seem samey to me. Blasphemy right? :D

Get the Xbox one or Ps4 version due to the save feature. Play the game, and save every so many times, and if u get to a hard boss, or area in the game, and die, pause the game, return to main menu, start the game again, and poof, back to ur last save point. I don't care if it's cheap, cheesy, or whatever u call it, I'm at level 8 without a death.

Pulsar is such a good game. The rampant lag is a pain but at least you can overclock it in MAME.

i own dreamcast, saturn, original xbox, snes, n64, ps1-4 and Neo Geo tough i know every game on the Neo Geo.
Just like r-type man you really gotta memorize each stage to get through it.Still a top notch shooter for the neo-geo.

You should do Iron Clad next? But I think its only playable through emulation. I was able to play it on my ouya awhile back.

It's a tough call. I find Blazing Star much more approachable because it's easier, but Pulstar is just so epic so I don't know either.
