It's 2020 and we are still waiting for the sequels. Sergei Bodrov is a dumb ass. He should have followed on the success of this film immediately after winning awards for it. It was his golden opportunity to get the necessary funds to make the sequels and able to rope in the same Japanese actor (who played Temudgein) Now, don't think any producers would be interested. Not even the japanese actor would be interested after such a long time of inactivity... a darn shame.

Yes, very deep movie despite simplicity of emotions of the characters. Especially apreciated his wife story line: true dedication of the woman to her husband regardless anything on her way. Tough times, tough people. Very useful movie for any man to understand basic rule of life: men are for war, women are for love.

I'll tell ya right now if Mongol's continued going into mainland Europe and Africa...the British would be 2nd behind the mongol empire only thing that stopped mongols of going into mainland Europe was the death of Genghis.
Just for the record, the British colonized a far more weaker states than itself. What makes the Mongols so huge in comparison is that they were the underdogs, weaker in technology and men but won through wits and will. Not to mention majority of the states that surrendered to the British Empire did solely to benefit from their superiority.
Yes the British were far more advanced compared to states they colonised but Mongols back then were also advanced in technologies and innovation such as stirrups, first complex military structure, mobility of soldiers, physiological warfare and other military tactics. My only significant complaint about this film, and it is a very good film, is that it glosses over Hoelun. She is included in it but it does not expound on her bravery and resourcefulness as much as it should have.

Who wants much more than this movie (wich is wonderful, i love it) you can read "the secret history book of mongols". It´s a book writed after Genghis Khan death. It tells the origins, life, battles and death of the great Temujin.

Actually before Genghis death he did rule most of the land him and his sons conquered.....after Genghis's death they had a few great khan Ögedei, Möngke Khan, Ariq Böke but it eventually broke into pieces with each empire having it's own Great Khan...for example Yuan Dynasty in modern China with Kublai Khan....Ilkhanate in middle east.....Golden Horde in modern Russia.

Not bad, at least for a Russian movie about Genghis Khan, who was after all their very Nemesis; but still the Russians seem to have missed mostly the chief method of Mongol warfare, which is of course archery on horseback and the battle scenes are a bit too acrobatic and gory at times; and of course the romantic love tale could have been a lot less adventurous and Mongol tribes weren't that small or else Genghis Khan would have never been able to summon 200000 men for his mighty armies.

It was to be a trilogy but after the difficulty making the film the director decided not to proceed .. until he did, and they were supposed to start shooting "Mongol II: The Legend" in 2019. But I don't think it ever eventuated. Seems its dead in the water.
