Kitty WAS "To Tell the Truth"! People would watch the show just to see what she wore, and watch her interrogate the contestants. And her laugh was so infectious. What a great lady, a "Grand Dame" who is missed to this day.
I completely agree, and also recognize that she wore the same dresses repeatedly throughout her appearances! I get a kick out of seeing if she would wear one of her "big three": the black off the shoulder with a diagonal bow, the pink with two side bows, or the over-the-top "atrocious flower."
Kitty's last performance on TTTT was in 2000, aged 90. Then she said that those days average people seemed to be just the internet focused, knowing very little about geography and history... the other way round it used to have been in Her youth. Well Kitty it's even worse today ! Rest in Heavenly Peace witty Kitty!
My favorite TTTT series was in the nineties. I loved watching the panelists walk down the long staircase while the theme music played. When they announced “and To Tell the Truth’s very own Kitty Carlisle,” the crowd erupted!
I was 9 when this show aired. I adored Kitty Carlisle, Betsy Palmer, Arlene Francis and Polly Bergan. They showed so much class and intelligence. Wonderful role models.
Kitty looks swank in her multiple pearl necklaces. Also, she has virtually lost any southern accent, having been born and bred in New Orleans; but traveled extensively in Europe.
It is great to see Kitty Carlisle on the show. It was interesting that in the 3rd game that contestant #1 was only asked one question or at the most 2-3. Yet she got all 4 votes. Thanks for the video.
Johan Bengtsson Eisenhower's interpreter, Eisenhower's pilot, Eisenhower's boy golf caddy, Eisenhower's director of the secret service, Eisenhower's Treasurer [from Bountiful Utah] all appeared on WML as did Dwight Eisenhower, the insurance broker.
@kenbrown438: No, she wasn’t. Kitty Carlisle was excellent on WHAT’S MY LINE, PASSWORD and TO TELL THE TRUTH. Polly Bergen wasn’t that sharp on these shows.
@@kenbrown438 He appeared on a few music quiz shows and music programs in Australia I think Rock around the clock on reruns was one memory foggy but I remember at the time i watched this episode his face and name was familiar. i think he had a bit to do with rock radio here too
So it has taken from December to March for G-T to get the first panel combination. I picture G-T, Fates, and their minions sitting around the conference table in the Seagram Building saying, "What this show needs is an Arlene Francis!" They had a "Hal Block" in Hy Gardner. They had sort of a Dorothy in Polly Bergen, what with her glasses to give her that intellectual look and her get at them style.
Interesting episode. First contestant was Pres Eisenhower and VP Nixon's barber. Twenty years later they could have did a show with Pres Nixon's plumber.
Reminds me of when our extended family was out to dinner once, and my father-in-law told us he watched "Hard Core Pawn" but in his New England accent it sounded like he said, Hard Core PORN! You've never heard such a deafening silence as at that table lol.
At the end, we get from Bud an admission of a question that has popped up here at TTTT RUclips before -- that being that at least on this broadcast he did not know in advance the real challenger. Frankly, I would have kept him in the dark so that he did not inadvertently slip and give something away. Collyer, I think, is a brilliant choice for this sort of program. Warm. Witty. The original concept of making "Nothing But the Truth" feeling rather like a judge and jury was to my mind a bad idea. It does make for many laughs -- Dick Van Dyke notwithstanding to the contrary.
Maybe Bud should have gotten a vote. i liked the idea of the audience getting a vote in the pilot, although it was handled clumsily, (should have been computed during a commercial and then just announced). Today, if they did it live, they could have people vote from their computers at home.

Polly's question about crimping is one of the few times I've seen where a slam dunk question works perfectly, finding a hole in the preparation but also having the good luck to ask the correct person last, so the other impostors can't simply copy her response.
#1 had to be the barber, because he looked the most like Floyd. As far as Mr. Bellamy's question, he confused #3. Her original answer was correct. If you tie the dealer, it's a "push". But if you both have Blackjack, and you didn't buy "insurance" the dealer wins. I don't think she completely understood which of the two examples he was asking about. #2, the dealer can never hit 17.The second game was easy. #1, and #3, didn't have a clue. The affidavit said he coined the phrase in 1951, and #1 said he coined it 3 or 4 years ago. At best, 1953.
To make a long story short, payola is when record companies pay deejays to play certain records on the radio. Often record companies are looking for ways to promote new talent, and payola was one method. Not only did payola do in Alan Freed, but it also nabbed Dewey Phillis in Memphis.
***** I remember well Alan's brother Charlie Freed. He was, for years the host of a multi-daily two minute feature sequence on KSL-AM Radio Salt Lake City. The feature was called "Windows" which dealt daily with a person or an idea or a theme or a historic event. " as seen from 'Windows" at KSL -- home of radio."
Hello... my brother was on an episode. He was a child opera singer and his name is Robert Puleo. I'm trying to find his episode. He would have been on in the early 1970s. Would you be able to help me find it? i hope so. Gina :)

She was similar to Arlene Francis
She was the Arlene Francis of “To Tell the Truth”

President Eisenhower's personal barber... sounds like a perfect contestant for WML.
Johan Bengtsson Eisenhower's interpreter, Eisenhower's pilot, Eisenhower's boy golf caddy, Eisenhower's director of the secret service, Eisenhower's Treasurer [from Bountiful Utah] all appeared on WML as did Dwight Eisenhower, the insurance broker.
ADORABLE KITTY !!!!!!!!!!!!
1:13 Welcome aboard, Kitty!
Polly is the best and most intelligent panelist ;. And stunningly beautiful !!!!
@kenbrown438: No, she wasn’t. Kitty Carlisle was excellent on WHAT’S MY LINE, PASSWORD and TO TELL THE TRUTH. Polly Bergen wasn’t that sharp on these shows.
She's mostly silly and attention-seeking. Her, "I forgot to bring my nurse today" got old really fast.

It is surprising that none of the panelists recognized him.

The Desert Inn was torn down in 2000, and today, the Wynn stands there.
The first contestant - the barber - looked a lot like Floyd Lawson, the Mayberry barber.
Yes he does
They avoided Alan Freed (#2) like the plague. I think he was asked just one question.
why was that ?
The "dirty laugh" in the audience according to Polly Bergen. :) 15:20
Celebrity Guests:
1. Polly Bergen
2. Ralph Bellamy
3. Kitty Carlisle
4. Hy Gardner

Kitty did have many of Arlenes affectations but purely genuine at the same time
The episode of WML after Dorothy where Kitty helped, there were times when her or Arlene were asking questions and you could not tell the voice apart
Polly was stunning
Sponsored by GERITOL 😄 Those were the good ol days!
For iron poor tired blood.

No one asked Alan Freed what city the term was coined in (Cleveland)
she was one of the most beautiful & sexy women ever on the television. she really rocked on the TRUTH. So blessed to see our gorgeous kitty again!
For a split-second I thought Bud said "porn shop" instead of "pawn shop"... 18:36
Freudian slip I guess. :)

I can’t believe they asked the barber contestants their political affiliation. 😖
I'm sure Kitty never imagined she'd be associated with the show into the next millennium!

Johan Bengtsson And since he was Russian, let us not forget that in his native language it is Чайковский! "Чайка" is Russian for "seagull."
+Mc Hobbit Yes, particularly since in Russian the name is spelled in an entirely different alphabet.

She did it so delicately and with such class.
