Civil Engineering Capstone Project - Spring 2024

Mizzou Engineering students think about how they can solve real-world problems before they step outside the classroom and into their careers.
It’s part of the Missouri Method, where students engage in learning by doing. That practice begins with hands-on opportunities in lab courses and undergraduate research and culminates with senior capstone classes. These classes allow students to apply what they have learned as undergraduates to develop solutions to the world’s problems.
A group of civil engineering students were tasked with assessing the current configuration of Route DD to improve the level of safety of the roadway and analyze the road's drainage system. The group proposed adding a roundabout at a crossroad near a school, expanding to a four-lane configuration, reducing the speed limit in school zones and adding mid-block crossings.
