Hey, all. Great to have you! What is your preferred way of playing against the Naalu? I talk about strategies FOR factions a lot but not a whole lot AGAINST them. I’d love to hear your thoughts. Have a great day!
Avoid making too many deals with them and invest a little in anti-fighter effects (destroyer 2, space cannon, etc.) Try to avoid attacking them, if you can. Alternatively, you can also just play the Barony of Letnev.
Ideas for fighting the Naalu: invest in space cannons and anti-fighter barrage and wait for them to attack you. That way, you can avoid the nasty countermeasures they can have.
@@CardboardCrashCourse we play once a month and I still find it amazing that if you play a different faction every time it will take over 2 years to try them all!
I have a game later this day with them Wanted to sharp out the last things before heading out Even though I knew what they can do It really helped with polishing the last things I need to do before the game
This was the best review on this race i found on youtube. I am going to watch any others you might have. Thanks! If you have the second pick 1st round If leadership and Tech is available what should I choose?
@@CardboardCrashCourse If you have the second pick 1st round, If leadership and Tech is available what should I choose? What is the optimal 1st round play, warfare?
Interesting analysis. In my second TI game ever (without PoK) I played the Naalu and while the 0 token sure is strong, I was overwhelmed by the challenge to make good use of it because I had to take the initiative while the table could react to what I was doing. Not being able to stall was a huge detriment for me. Since I don't plan on getting the codex I would like to hear your thoughts about the Naalu's potential with base PoK since I get the feeling that their additions made them worse in comparison to many other factions who received great buffs. Discussions online seem to revolve around this as well. Do you think they can keep up with the rest with only the standard base game and expansion?
No. base POK Naalu without codex is really bad. Their agent allows them to look at an agenda once per round. Their commander lets them produce 2 extra fighters without cost, and their mech gives a plus 2 to dice rolls against people who have fragments. They were ranked either D or F tier before codex. Since codex they are a solid high B or low A tier faction. They are great in many areas but they are also squishy. Still a solid faction post codex.
I dig your series and the way you layout the strategy, However, as a noob who is a long way off from PoK and the Codexes, I don't feel like I get a does of how to play this Faction in the base game.
Naalu is considered medium to high difficulty and one of the strongest faction due to their countermeasures and 0 initiative. It's a trap for new players. They're already OP in the base game and got even more buffed in PoK and Codex. A top 5 faction for sure.
Living rules reference "95 TRANSPORT When a ship moves, it may transport any combination of fighters and ground forces, but the number of units it transports cannot exceed that ship’s capacity value." Ground forces cannot travel by themselves outside of faction abilities
I played Naalu for the first time last week and allied with the Yssaril player without even realizing the lore connection lol. We just seemed to work together well with our scheming. What is the lore source about their alliance out of curiosity?
Yeah! So the naalu don’t actually have as many “mind reading” abilities as it may seem. They instead have a strong alliance with the Yssaril, who can cloak, and they send them out on scout missions in front of every fleet to get more intel.
About the only time you can sell thier promissory is round 2. Sell it to someone positioned to take custodians but in poor speaker order. It is risky because that player might choose to hold onto the note but offering another player a point is about the only guarantee that you'll get your PN back before the last round of the game.

@@phoenixfire2403 not a bad strategy, except that a single Naalu mech negates anti-fighter abilities, so I wouldn't invest much into that.
This is the first series of guides to factions I've found that's actually really good. Can't wait for more.
Thank you. I appreciate ya! Let me know if I can improve at all
@@CardboardCrashCourse You could offer strategies to play against the faction in additions to your advice for playing as them.

How to fight Naalu: just defend
The mecha give a protection against anti-fighter barrage. So it is only remaining the space cannons 😅
The zero token is powerful but I've noticed that it puts a target on your back. No one wants to let you get close enough to win with initiative order.
I really enjoy these guides, really make me want to try every faction of TI4! Now if only my friends felt the same way lol
If only I could try out factions every day… I think that’s what my heaven looks like!

I would say warfare, yes. Don’t underestimate exploration
We must have twilight community
When you activate their hero, I’m assuming the other players choose which promissory note to give you, right?
Yes, that's my read on it. A bit like the Empyrean ability.
Yes, Ben is correct

Question:
Foresight says "move your ships". You also moved your ground forces in the video.
Does it allow you to move ground forces as well?

In my group, that’s more risky than it’s worth. But very good idea nonetheless
Can confirm, if you trade the promissory note, you lose
Yup our game came down to that we had three players on nine but none had imperial but they had the promissory note
