You don't have to link it at all. Just talk about your experiences that have led you to want to study the new course. I had the same situation as you. My first degree is way different from my undergraduate degree. In case none of the chosen courses are not accepted by the three universities mentioned in the application, what to do? Before the deadline for courses, can applicants still continue to apply until they can an offer from at least one uni?

Continue to apply and when you are shortlisted for interview you can change your choices.
