Mr05sti I was really just trying to get a feel for it. I moved the reel up a little bit higher after that day and it helped be able to load up on the rod more. Thanks for looking out though! I’m always looking to improve on the ways of the long rod!
I’ve used the lexa 400 for years, and it definitely does not hold the same line capacity as the tranx 500. The new lexa 500 however, probably holds the same amount line capacity, but I have not yet seen one in person unfortunately
Not sure. My buddy had it done already before I bought the rod off of him. Shouldn’t be too much though. You can even do it yourself. I’ve done tuna cord over cork on acouple rods. The spools are only like $5 or $10
I just sold my Tranx and downsizing to a Lexa 400HD. Tranx was tough but too large for the size fish i was catching with it. Hoping the Lexa will outcast the Tranx yet be strong enough for my needs.
Gerald Velasco yeah I was happy with my lexa hd and had no problems using that forever, but for the fishing that I want to get into, it was time for me to upsize
Brett Voorhees i personally like the tuna cord over anything else! Cork is comfortable for about the first year or 2 but it starts to dry out with the salt over time. I love the way the tuna cord feels!
That's bro dope ass content again, quick question in the tranx theres the hg and pg right the hg is faster retrieval according to the retreival rates what did you go for and why over the other?
So the HG stands for High Gear, and PG stands for Power Gear. Personally, I never had the intention of casting this real at any fish over 50lbs so I went with the HG to have a little bit faster reel. But if you plan on using it for Bluefin fishing, or foamer fishing, I’d definitely recommend the PG for that extra power when you’ll need it while fighting a fish
TonyO I like to do about 10 feet. Just enough to wear my connection knot is in between the reel and the first guide on the rod while my jig is at about head height. Head height is about how much line I like to have when I cast
Sebastian Camarena there’s actually a video out there on how to cast an iron and it helped me get the basics down. I don’t wanna make a video like that yet until I really know what I’m doing. Paul Morgan no I haven’t used a cork puppy with my lexa. But I ground down my cork puppy. I’ll post a video soon on what I did to mine. Maybe it’ll help work for the lexa
Ray Velez that’s kinda a tough topic. In my personal opinion, if you’re mainly fishing yellows, cudas, bonito, and calico then I would definitely go with the lexa 400. If you plan to use the reel for 30+ fish and bluefin, then I’d go with the tranx 500. Zom B nice! I’ve been down to the harbor practicing like 3 times in the last 2 months. Going through some serious long rod withdrawals. Can’t wait for the new season!
TheJwhollis I think I get equal use out of the 2 of them, but I do feel the trini is more versatile. Nice fast and powerful reel that can really wench in some fish when needed, also great for speed retrieving yoyos, and fly lines really nicely. As for casting, I do think the tranx casts more smoothly and easier with the magnetic breaks, however with that being said, someone with a very trained thumb can outcast a tranx on a trini any day of the week. Honestly a lot to take into consideration between these 2 reels. If you want strictly casting from light small lures to full size jigs, tranx is great. If you want a lot of versatile for multiple different uses, I’d go with the trini
InDeepShip ____ I’ve heard. Everytime I try to get on them it’s too late haha. And I know. Still learning the ways of the 10 footer lol. I learn something new every time I use it

Joaquin Reyes no reel seat. I prefer not so have a reel seat so that I can move my reel where I want it into a more comfortable position for how I like to cast
Ian Undercover lol I do love my bait casters. I use conventional just as much though. I just have more problems casting conventional, still learning. Haven’t quite mastered it yet.
Ian Undercover the lexas are still putting in tons of work. I use them for casting the smaller irons and lighter stuff like stickbaits, poppers, and swimbaits
Davian Konja no. I was on the Mission Belle on Saturday. It’s funny though, at the bait barge, 1 person from the liberty noticed me and another from the grande and the both shouted what’s up!
Yeah after this day, I played with the breaks too and it really made a difference. I prefer casting open face conventional reels though, I do like the tranx for casting at tuna with lighter stickbaits and poppers, but for surface irons I’ll definitely stick with conventional
I have the 500 hg for my surface iron setup, I love it, so smooth and powerful. Was thinking about getting the tranx500pg for my yo-yo set up though. And throw some 80lb max Quattro for depth. Might sound redundant but I love the convenience of a bait caster lol. But I also love my talica 16II.

Always enjoy watching your videos bud...questions, how was it casting the trinidad 20a vs the tranx 500 on the 100 j-mag, also, did you ever try it on the lexa 400?
charlie071197 the Trinidad 20a is a fantastic reel but me personally, I still have yet to perfect casting with conventional reels and that’s the main reason I invested in the tranx. I’ve missed a lot of opportunities at fish during a wide open bite because of picking out a backlash. So for me personally, at this point, I prefer the Tranx 500 for casting irons. I have not tried the daiwa 400 on my 100 J. I’m sure it would be fine but I personally felt I needed the bigger spool for the style of fishing I plan to get into for the future
@@Dirty.Hookers thanks for your reply, I just bought a phenix axis 1009hj and I'm thinking of paring it with the tranx 500hg....after seeing your video, I think this would be a good set up. Thanks again.
SeaRex it’s in Ventura harbor. And for sure. Shimano really knows how to make small compact baitcasters. Their tranx 400 is about the same size as the lexa 300 but with a 400 spool. The Suzuki is a surf rod right? You do a lot of surf fishing?
@@Dirty.Hookers yeah, but i live in east coast now, surf fish here is awesome , i do lot of boating too , check out some of my videos :) suzuki is a surf rod, black hole make good blanks, i pulled some 50lbs fish on their 11ft striped bass special 2-8 without problems, just dont recommend buying stock rods since their guides suck balls.
SeaRex aahhhh that makes sense then. I wanna fish the east coast so bad. Anywhere from Virginia to Florida! Pretty much all of my bucket list species are out that way lol. What state are you in?
@@Dirty.Hookers I'm in Massachusetts now, cape cod canal known to produce the most n biggest striped bass out here on east, it's crazy, but I also like to do light tackle for Bonitos n albies. It's cold now so I'm heading to California in few days then fly to Hawaii, hopefully to catch some fish.DO u know how much n where charter boats going from Ventura area?
SeaRex around the Ventura area, there’s Channel Islands Sport fishing, Hooks Sportfishing, and Ventura sportfishing. All 3 landings have boats that range from $70-$120 a ticket. We’re at the end of our season out here so all the boats have been mainly rockfishing. However if you get on one of the more expensive boats ($90-$120 a ticket) you have a better chance at ling cod and sheep head. The better boats usually try to put better quality meat in the bags for everyone
Over the last 2 years I’ve been using the 65lb power pro max cuatro on all of my for my surface iron reels, 50 lb max cuatro on fly line, and 80lb on heaver reels. However, I don’t cast straight braid on conventional tackle. I usually have a 80+ yard top shot of mono for both surface irons and fly line. Only time I have full spool of braid to a short leader of fluoro is while casting snipers and other jigs at tuna
renaud simon about a 140 yard difference. I have like 280 yards of 50 lb j-braid on my lexa and was able to get 380 yards of 65 lb maxcuatro on my tranx
blueser23 smh this guuyyy hahaha. I might have to downsize to 65 max Quattro. I got used to the feeling of the line but the capacity is still scaring me haha
@@Dirty.Hookers I totally agree #80 braid is just taking up to much capacity on the reel for #40 leader. If #40 leader is what you're going to use, then #65 braid is much more appropriate. Pulse an increase in line capacity on your reel. Winning! Lol I like your thinking bro Don't worry about throwing poppers too #65 braid will work just fine 👍
ruben madrid thanks brotha! I was thinking exactly the same thing. Just had too many people saying 80# and it convinced me lol. I’ll definitely swap it out here soon.
@@Dirty.Hookers oh just in my humble opinion it would match and look great with that white knob that your reel has; the white color #65 max Quattro. Much better then the yellow color. I have been fishing white max Quattro for two years and it doesn't stain or gets that dirty. It's still white, again just my humble opinion. That's for all that you bro.
John Xiong yeah it was because of where my real was placed. After I moved it up higher I was really able to load up better and cast it further with less effort
John Xiong no updates. Just my recent yellowtail video when I put it to use but I don’t think I filmed any casts. I can probably get like 60ish yards on average. I practice more on proper placement casts instead of distance but having both down isn’t a bad thing
NoNo rich? Lol I saved up all last year to spend at Fred Hall. I only bought like 5 things at Fred hall this year because this reel took up most of the money I took with me. Put away little by little each paycheck, and you’ll be surprised how much money you have to play with in due time!
SoCal Fishing I prefer braid over mono. I use about 80 yards of mono for yo-yos and maybe 40 for fly line, other then that I always do a short top shot
You can get it farther out there if you load the pole more and get more arc on the cast.. not sure if you were really trying or not
Mr05sti I was really just trying to get a feel for it. I moved the reel up a little bit higher after that day and it helped be able to load up on the rod more. Thanks for looking out though! I’m always looking to improve on the ways of the long rod!
Im contemplating getting a Tranx 300 for shore fishing. Would a tranx get further casting distance than a spinning reel ?
A spinning reel will always out cast a baitcaster of any kind because they’res 0 resistance of spool tension.
You tried the Lexa 400? I was told it’s pretty good and close to the same line cap as the Tranx 500
I’ve used the lexa 400 for years, and it definitely does not hold the same line capacity as the tranx 500.
The new lexa 500 however, probably holds the same amount line capacity, but I have not yet seen one in person unfortunately

Thanks again.
charlie071197 that will be a perfect pair. That’ll feel really good! Glad I was able to help. If you have any other questions always feel free to ask
No way you live in camarillo? How have I never seen you around.
damien burke lol yep. Camarillo. Been here my whole life. Not sure if you skate or anything but I ride bikes at the skatepark a lot
I,'ve heard nothing but good things about that reel
David Jennings seriously amazing reel! I’m super happy I made the investment!
I'm from Ventura but don't know that dock, I have the 400 size much lighter n easier to use with 8' 10-20 black hole Suzuki
@5:45 that’s what she said
Jon Murillo hahaha I was waiting for someone to make a comment on that! Haha
Awesome👍
John Cats thank you!
What is your favorite braid for casting jigs?
Over the last 2 years I’ve been using the 65lb power pro max cuatro on all of my for my surface iron reels, 50 lb max cuatro on fly line, and 80lb on heaver reels.
However, I don’t cast straight braid on conventional tackle. I usually have a 80+ yard top shot of mono for both surface irons and fly line.
Only time I have full spool of braid to a short leader of fluoro is while casting snipers and other jigs at tuna
Do you have the brakes on?
blocbulley I didn’t at first but after pushing in 2 pins on the breaks it helped out a lot
Looks like someone is ready to sLay some tails.
5 Min Keto slayed some tails 😉🤫. Vid dropping this week
@@Dirty.Hookers Dayummmm ! Can't wait to see the action.
5 Min Keto I’ll be working on the video today. Hopefully can have it up either tonight or tomorrow night. Keep an eye out
please how many different capacity of braid with lexa 400 and tranx 500 ? please
renaud simon about a 140 yard difference. I have like 280 yards of 50 lb j-braid on my lexa and was able to get 380 yards of 65 lb maxcuatro on my tranx
@@Dirty.Hookers thanks
Lol told u to go with rainbow j braid
blueser23 smh this guuyyy hahaha.
Winning! Lol
I like your thinking bro
Don't worry about throwing poppers too #65 braid will work just fine 👍
ruben madrid thanks brotha!
That's for all that you bro.
ruben madrid I agree 100%. I asked for white but all they had in stoke was the yellow. When I go back to swap it out hopefully they have the white.
Another question for you.. Did you go with fiberglass or graphite on your 10' Calstar rod. Your comments on this appreciated.
Seem like ur not even chunking it out there. Those are baby toss
John Xiong yeah it was because of where my real was placed. After I moved it up higher I was really able to load up better and cast it further with less effort
@@Dirty.Hookers any update video after? I really wanna see how far can u chunk it out
John Xiong no updates. Just my recent yellowtail video when I put it to use but I don’t think I filmed any casts. I can probably get like 60ish yards on average. I practice more on proper placement casts instead of distance but having both down isn’t a bad thing
That beard. Omg
Yeah that was definitely an awkward time in my life while it was trying to come in. Doesn’t look nearly as bad anymore lol
Shimano's design team needs to be fired.
Why is that?
Why are you so rich...
NoNo rich? Lol I saved up all last year to spend at Fred Hall. I only bought like 5 things at Fred hall this year because this reel took up most of the money I took with me.
Put away little by little each paycheck, and you’ll be surprised how much money you have to play with in due time!
Good advice
Fish mono specta sucks
SoCal Fishing I prefer braid over mono. I use about 80 yards of mono for yo-yos and maybe 40 for fly line, other then that I always do a short top shot
