Sitting in the pocket of an African bassline is not easy if you haven't been emersed in Afro and Afro-Caribbean music -- the timing is really a feeling you have to have from familiarity. Good job.
In America and Europe, that would be the Blues. Soul music and that period in time when soul music from the world over could be heard on Indie 45 rpm vinyl. See Robert Trujillo's "Jaco" from 2015 to understand when I grew up playing.

I must constantly refer to the film "Jaco" because he was not only musical genius in a most American pop culture way -- a Blues and R&B way (as seen here in this pre-Jaco Wayne Cochan and the C. C. Riders filmed in Miami and as the film says, Jaco could instantly play through every feel thrown at him. With few exceptions and locally, I was it -- I was all about cats like Jamerson and Rainey and he was about conga patterns but with so much lyricism from a divine soul who was not the first and shall not be the last.
As a life long guitarist and professional musician for years myself,I have had the privilege of playing with a guitar player from Africa and an actual whole band from Africa and i swear they could play more chords and notes in one simple measure than I could in a whole night. Amazing musicians! Amazing! And,beyond amazing..!

I so enjoy African jam bands as well as Soca , Dancehall ,Amerpiano, electronic, tribaltechno house, etc etc etc .Lest we often forget Africa is a huge continent with many different varied musical options. We can use all types of price levels of instruments and equipment, and pricing regards professionalism isn't a thing. Regarding the PA, it's the most expensive thing there and very good. Look properly at the amp rack and cabs. Some powered and some passive. You don't know what you're talking about regards the PA. And having demoed keyboards for Roland, Yamaha, and Korg, I can tell you that the E-60 with its built in speakers comes from the home keyboard line that started in the 90s and isn't aimed at the pro market but is like a hybrid product because it does have some nice features. The Korg Triton was their flagship synth product in the late 90s and shaped a few tracks of the time with its sounds, although now is pretty limited unless you specifically want to use some of its sounds. The DS is more aimed at solo street performers and home composers, as it can use batteries and it can act as an audio and MIDI interface with a computer. So it's strange it's being used onstage. In my profession, I'd not be able to get away with using any of these keyboards live except maybe the Triton for its sounds if it were genre applicable. I just don't know why you said that about the PA. It may be bespoke, but I assure it's the most expensive thing there. Yet does 'expense' always equate to 'pro level'? 😉 Be well.
Yes, the bassist is off the scale good. The singer is a born frontman. The whole band is so tight they make it look easy to play this well. The subtle rhythm and tempo changes along with the clean tone leave nowhere to hide mistakes. And they don't make any. Add the lone woman dancing in perfect sync and the backing singer with a sleeping baby tied to her back making this one of the best things I've every seen.
African music has its magic, my favorite album by Paul Simon is Graceland that has African musicians, very talented all of them. Greetings from a Mexican who loves African soul.

The timing of this music has always fascinating me. I'm a drummer myself, and I can feel exactly what's happening, I can tell exactly where 1 is, but the execution of the fills and the emphasis on different notes is completely different from anything in most western music. I love it
One thing I learned about playing Haitian music which is related if you go way back, the holy spirit makes the music. The thing that’s so different is the cymbal crashes, they seem to come whenever the Spirit just needs a release of tension and joy !!

Beautiful and friendly folk over there in Ghana Africa!! I had the opportunity and privilege to jam with some of the musicians when I was there in Tama Ashama and Accra in 1999 supporting a church as a missionary there for about 3 weeks in the spring. I'm a full-time pastor and I did some Mission work back then was able to sit in on a couple sessions during worship and I play the drums still to this day. They have a unique Rhythm and beat and groove I can tell you that much. Great Hearts also you will make friends for life. It's a free country and a great one to visit
Not just funerals... weddings, birthday parties, traditional customary celebrations, chieftaincy title ceremonies. Any good African band will do the lot. These guys would be hard to beat though.. Someone needs to give them a recording contract!

Excellent music to the world! Skills of the bass player remind me of Armand Sabal-Lecco who played on Paul Simon's Rhythm of the Saints tour back on the early 1990s.
The guitarist was wow!!! I really appreciate the bassist for his non-stop beautiful rhythm. He was the life of the ceremony .❤ The drummer was so cool. He understood his assignment and the pianist was just contented in his little space. The singers were super. You guys are altogether amazing. Trumpet men and talking drum man, i see una. Better style ❤

Excellent music to the world! Skills of the bass player remind me of Armand Sabal-Lecco who played on Paul Simon's Rhythm of the Saints tour back on the early 1990s.
The guitarist was wow!!! I really appreciate the bassist for his non-stop beautiful rhythm. He was the life of the ceremony .❤ The drummer was so cool. He understood his assignment and the pianist was just contented in his little space. The singers were super. You guys are altogether amazing. Trumpet men and talking drum man, i see una. Better style ❤
