Congratulations to your daughter. My son just left this week for BMT and will be graduating at the end of next month. As for recording at or while approaching the gate, it is a major security issue given that you could unknowingly be recording how transactions at the gate as well as other procedures, etc are handled as vehicles approach the gate. This is a major no-no given that terrorists do the exact same thing at military and government installations during the planning phase for attacks. It happens here and around the world. This is why they make you delete it in front of them and why signs are posted everywhere cautioning against it. Consider yourself very fortunate that they didn't pull you aside and hold you while they search your vehicle.
