- Hello, friends! I've found a video that has been sitting in my archive for nearly two years! Since I've had several requests for more Edinburgh walking videos recently, I thought it was perfect timing to edit and share it with you. In the video, I'll be exploring Balerno for the first time; visiting a wonderful (but now sadly closed) cafe, Harlaw Reservoir and National Trust for Scotland's Malleny Gardens.

Outstanding! Wow! Harlaw Reservoir & the entire surrounding area is absolutely beautiful! Just breathtaking! As well as the beautiful pathway & trail through the woods. I loved it there! This would be somewhere I would love to go every day! It is also so peaceful & tranquil too. I also actually love the wind, so that would have been a perfect day for me to go! I also loved Balerno! It is so cute & quaint there! The wee Cafe you had lunch at looked wonderful & your lunch looked delicious. You know, oddly enough, in the numerous videos I have watched of Edinburgh & the surrounding area, no one ever mentioned Balerno, or the Harlaw Reservoir, or Malleny Garden, yet they are all so beautiful. I find that very hard to believe, since they are so beautiful!. I had never even heard of any of these lovely places till now, but I am so glad that you introduced us to them & shared them with us here. I really loved the beautiful Malleny Garden. It is just so enchanting there, with such lush greenery & little nooks to 'hide away' in. 'Tis truly captivating! I am sure that this is actually the real 'Secret Garden!' Who knew? Well thanks to you Shawna, now we do! Thank you for sharing this delightful experience! Blessings to you! .

I work for the malleny wildlife association and seeing soneone film it makes me and ma pal martin giggle so much there was this one time i dpat on a piece of lego and fed it to my chiwawa and ate it in the resivoir

Can you go there by train?
I think you may be able to take a train then bus/walk the last part of the journey but I’m not 100% sure. I just remember thinking the bus was the easier option at the time 😊
The closest train station would be Curriehill, followed by a roughly 2 mile walk to Balerno 🙂

This was really nice. I wanted to do this walk from Dean Village but I didn't get far 😅. Its great you can take a bus there. You should definitely go to Colinton Tunnel along the water of Leith walkway, you can even take a bus there. You might like it as you like reading. Thank you for showing us Balerno!
Yes! I can imagine I’d be a rather long walk from Dean Village 🙈 Colinton Tunnel is wonderful, I’ve been once before but need to revisit again soon 😊
