  • In this video I show how I remove all of the flooring in a Mercedes Sprinter based Treka minibus. The minibus flooring is custom made for the bus by Treka who built the bus and the flooring has full length Unwin quick release track railing which all needs removing so the floor can be insulated without loosing headroom. To release the tracking rails required unbolting 18 locking nuts per rail x9 rails so 180 locking nuts needed removing. Once the nuts were removed from the floor, ply had to be cut to allow the rails to be removed. Once all the ply and Unwin tracking rails are removed, it reveals the base chassis of the van which turns out to be in excellent condition, ready for a waxoyl protection.

    Amazing job. Getting ours up took an absolute age as we drilled out a lot of the bolts. Top job on saving the unwin rails; we got a pretty penny for ours.

    Nice job 👍 I wish I could have been there to get that T-Track from you. That stuff is expensive new.

      I might be getting another of these buses with all the seat tracking still in place, would you be interested in the tracking if I get the other bus and strip it out?

    Great job. How did you remove the seats? Ours are rusted in can't get the bolts off. Any help much appreciated.

      mine were all quick release seats, of yours are bolted down, cut through the bolts with a grinder

    Great videos! I’ve just got my hands on a transit version of these. The walls have polystyrene sheet for insulation.
    Do you think there is any benefit in replacing to kings pan or something similar?

    Was it worth to take out the flooring? Would you’ve done it if you knew the condition of the chassis?

    • @TheCampervanBuilder
      @TheCampervanBuilder  4 года назад +1

      checking the chassis was a bonus, the whole point was insulate the flooring without loosing headspace

    Hi, is there a particular benefit to re doing the flooring rather than just using what's already there?
    I've seen a similar bus I might have a go at converting.

    • @TheCampervanBuilder
      @TheCampervanBuilder  5 лет назад

      Insulation is the main reason, I have 50mm Kingspan insulation in the flooring (see my other videos), if it was laid on top, that would reduce headroom significantly

    Hi I have just bought a Mercedes Nouvelle II (based on an 814d) and want to to the floor up. Does it have to be marine ply or is there a cheaper alternative?

  • @evolutionpowerbikes3729

    Did you though about lowering flor to get extra head space or it would be to much work?

    • @TheCampervanBuilder
      @TheCampervanBuilder  5 лет назад

      the way I've done the floor is the lowest it can be done, the top flooring is secured to the chassis beams, the only way to go lower is to remove the chassis beams which would destroy the structural integrity of the vehicle. Now it's finished, I'm 6'3 and can stand tall inside, anyone shorter has no problem at all

      it is a lot of work, but worth it to get 50mm insulation in the flooring without loosing any headroom
