I'd just like to point out that "Generoso" can be translated in more than one way and in fact, until surprisingly recently (I'm french so I talk about my own language here, but I know it's also true for other romance languages) generous generally had a meaning of "honourable"/"noble", it only later on got narrowed down to the modern meaning.
