Wow. Wish I had seen this BEFORE I build my pond. I put it in a low spot,, turns out there is a seasonal underground stream there which kept filling under the liner, making it slide off the edges. Still working out a solution. Can you believe I had to put a sump pump UNDER my pond liner, reconfigure the pond so I could reach the sump for maintenance. Not out of the woods, but working on it. Sounds like maybe you need to become a pond builder or something related instead of whatever you are studying. Follow your interests and if you find there is a way to make a living doing that then go for it!

I have a 20x20 pond. Just installed. I put it in a high spot, finished the liner shaping and then it rained. At first, the bottom and shelves were still solid today. Yeah - no leaks. BUT. Then I drained it to finish working in it with the other stones/features/filters, etc... and the water that I pumped out, got under the liner, even though I pumped it a good distance away. The initial rain didn't affect it. So, my question is, do I need to tuck the liner's top edge down around the pond's top to some depth to keep that from going back in under the liner when I need to empty it?

If they were in a small or crowded tank/pond that was not filtered or water changed adequately, then yes. Otherwise, not really. It is the poor water quality associated with small or overcrowded tanks that limits their growth, not the size of the tank/pond itself. All goldfish are indeterminate growers, so they continue to grow larger until they die or until conditions become too poor for them to thrive.
A few tips - You'll want the largest pond at the very bottom. Smallest at the top. Make sure to install not in a low lying area. If you need assistance with sizing a pump, filter, etc. - please don't hesitate to call me at 866-819-7663 x120. i'm available M-F, 9-4 EST
not sure how to put in the liner into an already rocky gully, where shelves on the sides cannot be formed easily...also inside the projected pool are many large boulders,how can i deal with these when putting in liner..

I want a small bird bath/small pet water feature with a little water fall to prevent mosquito larvae. Plenty. The average starter is generally close to 100 sq ft. But, down the line as fish grow and your enjoyment grows - you'll want to go bigger. Using a garden hose to lay out a design works well.

Different materials completely. EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer) liner is a rubber with generally a limited lifetime warranty. PVC (polyvinyl chloride) often does not hold up in comparison and becomes brittle over time.
Even if the pvc is completely covered and does not come in contact with direct sunlight? How much time do you think the PVC will hold when it's completely covered? More than 10 years?
I want to add rocks to my pond. I used a tarp as a liner. In my old pond I used tarps and I only had to replace them every 2 years. I wouldn’t take out the old tarp when I put in the new one. I’d just remove the fish drain it and add the new tarp. I was happy to get another pond put in at my new place. I’m already wanting to go bigger. I may just end up putting in a 2nd one.

You need to put your fish in a holding tank. Basically a temporary pond of water could be a large container like a plastic tub or paddling pool. Just fill it with the water you already have in your pond.

Hi, My late father had a Greenhouse which I have since removed, the stone area is what it stood on which I will put rocks on, I am moving the earth for the water area, I will use it for Newts or Frogs but I don't know wether I want concrete or liner, If I go with concrete how do I put it on the side walls? I understand I will need a few inches of gravel on the base before the concrete is laid but again what about the sides? Thanks for any help.
If your building a ground pound then just don't make the walls of the pond steep and you can just mix your concrete nice a thick not runny and it will stay where you poor it. If your planning on steep walls then you may need to build shuttering out of wood to poor the concrete to hold it in. Or build the walls with blocks then render the blocks.

Koi Pond 3 months past completion date by person of profession LOL - so many errors. Question please - the shelf is getting narrower - in 4 weeks a part of the shelf has gone from 6" down to less than 4". Why? What process was not done to create this? Besides the complete improper way of putting the the 45ML liner. I only know of of this now due to the delay I began researching all things. Anyone please help with why shelf around pond is getting narrow - is is eroding????? Live in area with thick rocky dirt.

LOL Would you please answer one more question - my son brought over is underwater extension camera - I got in the pond and took a video of the bottom - the liner is NOT secured flat to the bottom of the pond. I noticed a few inches floating up - it's two pieces poking straight up with a gap inbetween. Much worse than I thought - as I walked down the length of the pool the liner sticking up - rather waving in the water - at the far end is at least 8" - I can just swish back and forth in water. Before we spend any more money to complete with a new person or before I pay for some remaining material cost - I need more knowledge on errosion. Plan to take the video to a foundation company or if I can find a larger more experienced Koi Pond builder - not many in my area that I'm aware. Certainly appreciate your feedback!!!! Thank You. (example of one issue - this person purchase a Pond Kit for a 4,100 gallon Pond. Our pond is 1,472 gallons and I don't feel I should be paying for a Pond Kit 3 times the size needed - oh geez, I could go on - just trying to know what is laying ahead and still do the right thing for materials in our possession. Ya I built my pond in a run off and the walls caved in and the ground water pushed my pond liner up and it ripped in 1 place due to all of this, so now in April 2019 I get to buy some concrete rebar and cynder blocks and reconstruct everything or I'll build a above ground wooden frame pond...decisions decisions

Pond size argument is valid, 100%. The larger the pond, the easier it is to maintain water parameters (not surprisingly, same goes for aquariums).

How close can a small natural, clay pond be to a house or detached garage foundation if the “soil” is basically solid, red clay?

You would want to use a lot of padding/underlayment.

You should relocate. Appears to be an area where the ground is too saturated without adequate drainage.

A french drain might be the answer along with building a berm to help redirect incoming water.

We pretty much only deal with rubber liner installations. Good luck on your venture.

Would not recommend, as you cannot guarantee it will not get deeper.

Definitely sounds like the soil creating the shelf wasn't tamped well enough prior to the liner going in, and it is eroding.

1st mistake don’t use aqua scape they will dig a hole fill it with rock and leave no room or depth for the fish to swim.
