An EXCELLENT video. The only criticism I have was that it was too short! You left me wanting more and that is a good thing! Congratulations!

Good video. I seriously doubt if these rank badges were ever worn 'in the field' after 1916 (if even then). To even wear the uniform would merely mark the wearer out for murder by the brits, although Comdt. Tom barry did famously wear Volunteer officers uniform at the Kilmichael Ambush in November 1920 purely as a way of distracting the Black and Tan convoy. Keep up the good work.

From what I’ve found these rank badges were not worn commonly especially the NCOs etc insignia. Though they still existed

@@General-History101 My grandfather and most of his brothers were 'active' members of the IRA during the Tan War (Irish War of Independence) and from the few chats I had with him uniforms and rank badges were mainly a 'Dublin Headquarters' thing , even before the Easter Rising. The ordinary rural or urban working class volunteer couldn't afford uniforms and fought in their everyday clothes. Obviously during the War uniforms were not worn because it picked you out for execution by the british. By the way the 'three leaved clovers' were 'Shamrock' a la Saint Patrick. Thanks again for this.

When did the IRA issue the order for their men to wear civilian clothes: 'the man on the street, the farmer in the field'?
