Hello, I'm actually the guy that did the Trumpeter 1/32 F-14D photo of the non-slip walkway that you showed on your tablet. It was really nice hearing and seeing it used as a reference. Your F-14 really turned out nicely, great weathering and painting
As someone who is working on getting better at this hobby I really appreciate you explaining what you are doing and why. Slime Lights aka Formation lights are small panels on the plain that light up for night flying so that other planes in the immediate area can see the orientation of the aircraft. In daylight they appear faded greenish yellow, but at night they have a brilliant radioactive green glow, very similar to glow in the dark plastics.
“WOW” bloody brilliant, really enjoyed it, thanks for sharing your work. I can’t wait to see you finish this. I’ve ordered the TopGun decals, but think this may lead to my divorce, as I’ve spent tooo much money this month already 😬 Take care Jase
Hi Sean, I just recalled that there was something about the anti slip pad in one of your older videos, and found it. This is exactly what I was looking for for one of my actual builds😎. Gonna try this technique now. Thanks for sharing all this. Just love the way how you present everything. Cheers
Very informative video on areas typically ignored by other building videos. Thanks for taking the time to share your methods, products used and showing the actual application. Continue to stay safe and protect the family & new puppy.
Correction, on the F-14D the black parts at the rear are made from carbon fiber and they are very thick. When you see them up close you will find counter sunk flat head screws set way below the surface and you see the carbon weave in cross section. On the F-14A certain panels around the engines are bare metal.
Here in the UK the black grit tape to stop you slipping on the aircraft is usually aluminum foil back grit tape painted black, or it is on the helicopters
It is called wing walk compound. Think of it as roofing tar mixed with 150 grit sand and applied with a paint roller for added texture.(thats not what it is... just what it looks like) Google it for other variations.
Have you ever used,, 'luminous tape' ? Self adhesive, cut out on your infini mat, stick em on, your done,,,,and when you turn your lights of in the studio, you get a nice display, Plus you can find your planes in the dark😜 P.s Bare Metal foil on the leading edge 'aluminium'
Gotta adjust the engine nozzles a bit, the B-D model Tomcats had GE engines with a black carbon fiber shroud the earlier A model had metal that was similar in color to the rest of the nozzles
Hey Sean, watching these videos a few times as I prepare to work on my own Top Gun F-14 (this will be my first time painting a model). Amazing job, I don't think the plane looked half as good in the movie as your finished product did! I didn't catch it in the videos, but what paint(s) did you use on the exhaust nozzles? I know you painted them off camera, so if you mentioned it in one of the videos it went over my head. Looking forward to hearing from you!@@seanerk5kt9
@@Flynnini I just used ak extreme metal aluminum and dark aluminum then used a really thin mix of Tamiya clear orange and yellow to tint it. When done with that I used a thin mix of nato black and darkened the tips.
Sean, excellent work as usual . . stealing your method for the slimelights and the walkways . . . quick question . . do you use a regulator on your airbrush compressor??
Thanks Ray, hope you and yours are staying safe as well. I got them from Fightertown decals. I posted a link in the description of part 1, if you click on it it’ll take you to their web page with these exact decals.
Primedmodelworks We are just taking one day at a time. Thanks for the direction to the link. So busy with work, I rather watch the video more then read the description😉👍

Looking good! Ole Tom would be impressed.

Thanks for keeping the more detailed format for the video. Your really helping my modeling improve.
Another fun thing you can do and probably have done, but after i painted mine I put glow in the paint over them. Makes for a really cool effect
I’ve never tried that but I’ve seen it done at it looks pretty cool
Funny what you think is boring, brilliant work yet again.
Great work as usual
No "Top Gun" theme music? Now I'm disappointed. All the small detail painting is really starting to show. It's making a big difference. Great job
learn more from watching your channel. Great to watch.Im really gonna have to invest in a airbrush tho
That’s a really pleasant video to watch. You’re an awesome modeler, thanks for the tips...
Thanks Daniel!
Incredible work!!!
Love the videos. Could you go over the GoPro you use and the stand that looks over your shoulder when your building?
It’s an iPhone and it’s on a tripod ;)
I'm glad to make the same kit in real time.
^^
It’s a great kit 👍

Awesome info, thanks so much Kevin!

I didn’t even think of luminous tape, now that you mention it, I remember I saw that on one of yours and it looked outstanding.
Even though Sean's an FIB, you guys kick ass.

I’m glad you pointed that out ;) thanks Matthew
Primedmodelworks I’m not sure how I can get it to you but if you want it I have some detailed paint and weathering outlines for the Top Gun F-14’s
If they’re emailable you can send it to seanerk@hotmail.com. Much appreciated brother.

Awesome! What brand of paint did you used?
Tamiya acrylic
Sean, excellent work as usual . . stealing your method for the slimelights and the walkways . . . quick question . . do you use a regulator on your airbrush compressor??
Steal away my friend. Yes I do, but it’s a cheap Chinese compressor so I’m not sure how accurate it is.
Thanks Sean!
G’day mate, hope that you and the family are doing well and healthy.
Question, where did you get the TopGun Decal Sheet from??
Thanks Ray, hope you and yours are staying safe as well. I got them from Fightertown decals. I posted a link in the description of part 1, if you click on it it’ll take you to their web page with these exact decals.

Would using MR S 1500 and sponge work on a 1/350 carrier flight deck or would it be to "rough" and out of scale?
I think it’d look ok, but I’d also recommend trying it on a scrap piece first to see if you like it.
Talk to me Goose
What tape are you using?? That looks like the tape I get at my local NAPA Auto Parts store for body work . .
It’s Tamiya tape...it’s a little pricey but I love it.
What air brush do you use?
