I bought the FX 30 and love it. Been using the FS5 for years. In between two brands on glass. Now moving everything to Sony and this is my next rig. Totally amazed by everything I see coming of the FX6. It seems to punch above it’s weight and love the built in ND.
Hey man, I really liked your overview of your FX6 cinema camera build, I’m currently studying with full sail to get a bachelors in digital cinematography and around the 10 month mark will be receiving an FX6 through the school. Hope to see more videos on the FX6 and its use in the field!! 🎥
haha hell yeah! That's great man! I'm glad it worked out for you, I think I'm gonna do an update video on my FX3 next and show how I use it and the FX6 together 👍🏼
Other people have done similar builds and they make the top look cheap and the say its no good. With your build, it looks really sturdy and makes me want to reconsider the Sony FX6, great job Jared !
People love to hate! I haven’t had any issue with it so far. One thing I am upgrading is the mic holder, I found a 3D printed shock mount that is bolt on compatible and looks a lot more sturdy than the stock one.
@@jaredlank That's great ! I'm looking forward to your shoulder rig build for this rig. I have a shoulder rig for my Panasonic S1H and I finally have it the I need it. Good luck and keep up the good work. By the way, here's my RUclips page if your interested. ruclips.net/channel/UCxRMk3DgdyFpCyvXkg-HrJQ
I appreciate it! I’m definitely commuting more to RUclips going into 2023 and am hoping to put out videos on a regular basis. I have a ton of ideas so I just have to make them!
Thanks for the video. Could you do a video on your setting if the camera. I have only found less than handful of videos on the setting. Would greatly appreciate if. Otherwise great video.
Hey Jared! Really enjoyed both your FX6 and FX3 builds; I've done similar builds to both of mine, but it's def been cool to see your approach. Do you still plan on doing head-to-head comparions of both cameras? any other upcoming content regarding each camera that you plan to film and share, as you mentioned at the end of both videos? Keep up the great work!
Good information but filming in low-light actually makes it a bit challenging to see what you have going on until you insert the cutaways. Sure, it's trendy for filmmakers to shoot darkly, but I'm watching this for information, I don't need atmosphere like a dark Game of Thrones ep. And I'm watching with screen turned on on a brand new MBP M2 16". Higher key light would be very helpful.
Can't wait for the FX3 / FX6 comparison... I have the FX3 and budget wise prob need to keep that as my A cam for a while yet (have an A7IV that works as a B Cam for now) but FX6 seems pretty awesome w Nds, etc. Thanks for the time you put into this - great stuff.
First off, thanks for the video, great seeing some of the accessories in use. However, it would have really been useful, if you had lit the whole thing a bit more high-key. I get it, moody is nice and all, but I guess since this video had more of a functional purpose it's kind of a bummer that at times I could barely see what you were building.
God damn, thought you had millions of subscribers… For your quality you deserve so much more than you have!! Incredible shots, super interesting (even though I can’t afford anything 🙁 )and really entertaining!
Love to hear the acute breakdown. Efficiency is my main goal and it looks like you found a great solution for yourself. Would love to hear the follow up video about fx6/3 as A and B Cam.
That rig is insanely clean. How is the hot shoe keeping up so far with the ninja? And can you tell us how long you can shoot with the smallrig v mount ?
The only time I use rods is when I'm going shoulder mount. I use the small rig shoulder rig that mounts to a VCT base plate. Then I use small rig extension arms with an attachment for the FX6 hand grip and a wooden handle for the left grip. Super rock solid and allows me to pop on and off tripod and onto shoulder very quickly. I just found when the camera is rigged (more that the basic set up) it's just too heavy for hand held, but with the shoulder mount it's perfect. I make a decision before the shoot asking am I going basic or rigged? It's incredible how much better shoulder shooting can be!
Very nice video bro. I have a question. When you hooked up your monitor to the hot shoe mount on the handle, will it damage it since there’s pins in there?
Solid video. One comment, and I think you will find this out yourself, but the wireless transmitter mount on the side.. doesn’t work with the side handle when you actually try to put a unit on the mount. A teradek or hollyland will block your hand from actually using the side handle. I believe it’s suppose to be used without the side handle.
Good call! I don’t use one at the moment so that’s super helpful. I’ll try to borrow my buddy’s to see how it interferes with the handle and if I can find an alternative setup
Great video. Don't you have vignetting / tunnelling issues with your Mirage at under 24mm? I personally use the 16-35 GM all the time on my FX3 and if that issue is real, the mirage is a no-go. Looking forward to see more videos from you.
Thanks bud! And for sure, I’m thinking of getting a mini magic arm in place of the cold shoe, I wish it had a different mounting option on the top handle
6:05 ok sorry but i use a sony ecm-vg1 on our NX-100 ( its for the local news) and we still need the rubber thing on those too. So Sony Does not make the MIC holder on their gear the right fit for only their mic's. Their mic's barely fit too.
It can record 30 minutes internally! Like I said I just kind of keep it there as a backup at the moment. If I need to I have an adapter for xlr I and a cable I can run it to the top handle
@@jaredlank thanks, I meant is it possible to use that vmount plate but only connected by the screw on the top, removing the internal portion? That way I can fit a BPU battery inside the camera at the same time.
Lol nice! I will probably do that quite a bit. I do think that one nearly essential upgrade is a bigger monitor though, the stock monitor is soft and not very bright.
I want to tell you, I clicked this immediately because this thumbnail was fire
Thanks bud! I was super happy with how it turned out!
Exactly
Same 😂
I could watch that intro 50 times. You deserve that camera.
Has to be the cleanest fX6 rig ive ever seen!
You should use the FX6 to film yourself or buy a few studio lights.(or crank your gain)Video looks very dark and muddy.Great breakdown on the rig.

I like your builds, you seem to always keep them very compact, yet at the same time still have all the needed extras. 👍
I am a diehard Canon shooter, but I am now switching over to Sony thanks to your incredible content! Keep up the great work brother!
Thanks Jared, I am looking for a summary build. This is a great reference.

thanks for this man, super helpful as I just got my FX 6 and am starting to rig it up!
That side handle seems so perfect. I have such rig envy tbh
It's so solid! The only thing I wish it had was an option to de-click and map the scroll wheel on the front to be for focus pulling.
Damn I might be first! Loved your FX3 build. I built out mine exactly the same.

How far do you break it down between gigs? Do you leave it somewhat built in the bag/case? And if so, what bag/case are you using?
Hi Jared, what is the total weight of this build? Thanks for the great video!
Nice setup! I'd watch out for the monitor on the cold shoe, I had mine break.
Thanks bud! And for sure, I’m thinking of getting a mini magic arm in place of the cold shoe, I wish it had a different mounting option on the top handle
Flip the monitor for shorter hdmi distance and cleaner cable management! clean setup 👌🏼👌🏼
Love these, but definitely buying a camcorder
That's OK setup but what does it have to do with cinema productions?
Can you provide a link to the cable you’re using to connect the Rode Wireless Go 2 to the FX6?
I removed the mic holder immediately. The screws didn’t want to come out so I used a drill. It is sooo much nicer without the stupid holder.

Is that tilta V mount plate compatible with the A7siii ?
Any issues getting the media cards in and out?
Thanks for the video. What's the total weight of the rig fully built up?
How do you run the audio from RODE wireless go to the camera? Using a 3.5mm to XLR?
what is the font used for the title of the video?
Do you not plug the Rode receiver into the top handle with a 3.5mm to XLR adapter?

I'm thinking about making the switch to fx6, can you tell me how much the parts of your Rig cost? thanks
Can you unscrew the part if the vmount plate that goes inside the camera? I like this cage a lot but dont want to loose hotswapping vmounts
Yeah it’s totally optional! You can run the cage without the v mount plate entirely, or when you buy it opt for a gold mount plate instead.

Fx 6 prise ?
Hello! How do you connect a Rode wireless microphone to the camera?
What was the intro song?! Cheers!
what was the weight for the final build?
U may want to invest in lightings. Your video is too dark for comfortable viewing..
You should calibrate your monitor because video is so dark it's barely see detail.
the whole video is underexposed including the B-Roll.
Got a Ninja for Sale :)

shot too dark, u need to learn how to exposure properly
Lol thanks for the feedback
Can you make you videos brighter it’s super dim. Hard to focus on you when I can’t see u all that good
Hmm, no viewfinder. Not quite cinematic. And onboard mic?
Dude it's way too under exposed for a RUclips video
All that stuff and can't shoot a well exposed image...
Your video is too dark can’t see what you did sorry
