  • Hello!
As requested by some peeps, here is a video on how I got my IB score.
I wouldn't consider myself the perfect student, so it wasn't easy pinpointing what I did to get my score. I had to reflect "like super deep" on my DP years, which is why this video took so long 😭. I hope you enjoyed my video and consider my honest advice and tips.
You might have noticed that I quote Mark Manson a lot, and that's because his book, "The Subtle Art of Not Giving a f," inspired this video. Definitely go check out this book if you have the chance.
Whether or not you are taking the IB, I hope the best for you.
Work hard, and don't forget to enjoy your last high school years!
    All the best,
    Chelsea Lai

Part 4: TOK, EE, and IA - 12:32
    Part 5: Regrets - 14:07
    Conclusions - 15:18
*In Part 3 of my video, I talk about the concept of Victim Mentality. To clarify my point, I don’t mean you should never complain as many situations we encounter in our lives will not be our fault. But, in the end, it is your choice to whether or not you dwell on the fact that it is not your fault or to take responsibility for your own emotions and decide to act on your own. Especially during the pandemic, sometimes it’s better to accept our situation and dig ourselves out of our unhappiness. Because just like BTS had once said, “life goes on.” 😁

I'm starting IB basically in three weeks and I found this video a couple of months ago and I keep coming back to it - the advice is so helpful, it's not just repeating what everyone is saying and it's also no bullshit. Besides that, you are really easing my anxiety because I chose maths AA HL and I'm not THAT good at maths, but if you didn't die after the hardest available HLs AND a Bio AP than maybe I'll be fine.

The content was fine, but exam questions were hard. The only way to get better is to practice. As for IAs, just find a topic you like, and you should be fine. Again, you don't need to read many online exemplars to find a topic. Just look around and get inspired by the opportunities around you.

;-; btw since may & nov 2021 were the first cohort, the grade boundary was much lower compared to the old syllabus (67% for a 7), as the questions were harder for paper 3 and section b (even if content was less). • @cherrybeary4471
      @cherrybeary4471  2 года назад +3

I wouldn't treat the courses as subjects when studying, instead, consider them by their subtopics. Target topics that you struggle the most with and balance them out. An excellent way to find which topics you struggle with most is to lay out all the objectives in front of you and tick through each one of them.

I agree 1000% with all that you said. I also got a 44 (exam route) with math AA HL, Econ HL, Spanish B HL, Business SL, English SL, ESS. After the exams I declined the offer from UCL because I thought I wouldn’t get the 39 with 766. Everyone told me otherwise, but I still did it. In the end I ended up with a 44 777 in a worse school (although I liked the modules more). Note I got rejected from all 3 of my dream unis. Anyway, I wish you all the best :).

Hey! Physics hit me quite hard towards the end of Grade 11 too. Physics gets harder as topics accumulate, but that shouldn't be a reason to give up :). All topics will become hard at some point, so try to keep up. However, in the end, your choice is yours. I don't completely understand your situation, so if you really don't think you can do it, I would say drop down to SL.

That's IB MYP. You'll only get a similar report like IB DP in MYP 5, or 10th grade. Before that, it is very easy and honestly, nothing to stress about. Just do well in your 10th boards, and then the real thing will begin in 11th. These results are for IB DP, where the final results are given out of 45. 3 points for the EE and TOK and 42 for subjects in total. However, for MYP, it is just based on your summatives and is honestly not even stressful at all. Everything till 8th is a piece of cake. 9th is a bit more difficult but still not much, and 10th is mainly studying and preparing for e-assessments. This is coming from an MYP student who has just entered 10th.

i know this is two years late but i'm starting IB in september this year. i also already chose physics and chemistry, but i want to go into a career related to biology/chemistry. it's too late for me to change courses (according to my cousellor), so i was also thinking of taking AP bio. for reference, i'm not in the US (in canada) but am hoping to go abroad (US is an option - would AP bio be beneficial in this case since bio wouldn't be included in my IB diploma?)
i hope you don't mind me asking a few questions:
    1. how difficult was it to take AP bio on top of IB?
    2. were the exams during the same time?
    3. did your school offer an AP bio course or was it self-study?
    4. is the AP course similar where you'll have lots of assignments/projects as well?

I am not sure what the TOK exhibition is, but here is a website that could help:tok2022.weebly.com/tok-exhibition.html. As for the TOK presentation (which I did), it is a presentation you can decide to do by yourself or with 1-2 other students. The goal of the presentation is to demonstrate your TOK knowledge in real-life situations. You start by creating a Knowledge claim, and you build your presentation around it.

    My subject combinations are:
    Biology: HL
    Chemistry: HL
    Physics: HL
    Math AA: HL
    English Lang. & Lit.: SL
    French B: SL
I'm in DP1...my teachers said that this subject choice and combination is insane. I want to pursue Biomedical Engineering/ Med and all these subjects are required at an HL level. Additionally, I really enjoy them(I'm still improving though). We haven't finalised our HLs & SLs and I'm still very confused what to go forward with. Can you give me some advice as your subjects are similar?

I don't know much about taking 4 HLs. How it shows on your resume depends on where you apply. I would look more into that or maybe talk to your counselor. However, in the end, learning is learning. If you are enjoying the subjects and doing well, I would go for it! 😁

@@shrek3397 some schools allow the student 3 sciences if provided proof that universities they are going to apply to require them ( one of my friends had to show the website and another student which school didn’t have a website had to get a letter stating that they needed all 3)
