when i was a junior in high school, i worked at a tea place. i remember listening to race on repeat, and one night i just ran home to gnaw. it always makes me emotional to remember how free i was.

Personal opinion but I feel like skill like this may come somewhat from talent, but a good deal also arises from hard work and prolonged uninterrupted engagement with the craft

@@colincassidy1194 Agreed. With him its hard to tell since he seems like a v private person.. but thats what makes him cool, that he doesn't show his process, or doesn't show himself 'working hard'. he makes it seem like he goes into his bedroom and just records bangers effortlessly.

I agree 🩷 I think the only other artist who evokes similar emotions, is Elliott Smith imo. Who I love so dearly and is how I came to discover Alex G as he's mentioned a lot in relation to Elliott.

When I listen to gnaw I don't feel angry. I just feel sad but like I need to do something about it. The other night I put in my earbuds, put my put the song on repeat and my phone in my pocket, and just ran as fast as I could down the road until my lungs and my legs literally couldn't take it anymore.
I didn't run anywhere in particular, but it was still nice to get that out.

it took me one day to finish my first song and its quite good i believe. it defo needs improvement but its not hard to write a riff. just play with your guitar and other artists’ songs and then you’ll get your ideas and authenticity

this just got to be one of the best videos ive seen of Alex performing. a still shot with a yellow lamp next to just Alex sitting playing his guitar and singing his songs with a group of funny people listening, laughing and singing with him
i just saw him in concert a couple months ago and it was incredible, but took place at a fairly large venue. I loved it. i love him. I always will. but i can only imagine what it must've been like to see him like this....if only. jesus.
This performance this video will be with me till i leave this earth. Can never take away seeing him in Asheville in 2015 or so at a small ass venue that doesnt exist anymore singing along to deep cuts and matt cothran being there and like fifteen other ppl

Alex G helps with bipolar sometimes. Usually when I’m manic which sucks as bad as depression. The house he’s in reminds me of the kitchen of a house that hosted touring bands when I was in high school. I used to go there at lunch and play organ.
He played all the fuckin classics, thats so sick
i first listened to this concert at the start of 10th grade in my hometown attending a catholic school i hated with friends but no idea who i was, but i was so happy. now, approaching my last year of high school, im in a new province with new friends who don’t really get me like my old ones did and i attend a school i don’t care about and i just feel so dreadfully indifferent to everything. i wish i had appreciated everything more. alex g just brings it all back, he was the soundtrack to a simpler time and now im actually physically sick with nostalgia. still, these songs remind me of my friends and memory is a wonderful thing. just struggling with the concept of change.

such a great artist who perfectly expresses teenage pain, ppl usually overlook teenage emotions as something pointlessly angst y or just complaining. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve felt that way, listening to music with painful lyrics and saddening melodies and all my family would do is overlook the feelings that were very real for me. When I listened to the music like this I felt seen, but mostly by alex g, I’m not crazy and singled out for feeling this way. I love this guy more than the world.
