Agreed 100%. The three one eight is built from the 392 Hemi platform. Look at Steve Wann running 10.19 at 129 in stock class with a 440-6. Now, put a 318 in a 2,950 car with three stages of nitrous. Each stage is 100Hp. Each stage is energized at each gear shift in the 727. Simple. What a snooze fest.

318 is my favorite engine. The last one i built if i recall correctly suffering from crs
    .10 over kb167 pistons
Indy LAmaxx heads I think of the top of my head it was 62cc chambers 176 runner with 1.9 or 1.92 valves off the top of my head
Cam was a comp 230/236 duration at .050 and 530/536 lift. Lobe seperation was 114.
If i recall right it was 10:5:1 cr.
Used an eldebrock victor jr with a tuned 800 holley HP.
It kept feeling like it was starving for fuel and i got fed up with the edelbrock 650 one night drag racing. We swapped the carb between runs in a 71 duster. 4 speed 4:30 gear. I got it to run 11.77 that night on race fuel. Things happened after that, i disappeared for 2.5 years and the car was gone when i got back. So i never got the rwhp dyno run with it.

Thank you so much! The ability to read is one thing. Comprehension is another thing. When we combine the two, we form the basis for learning. What a great concept. Thank you for your support. I appreciate your comment and time. I look forward to seeing if the 318 will live up to three stages of nitrous oxide injection. The plan is to use 100Hp out of the box. On the completion of the 1-2 shift, enter stage two, at 200Hp. On the 2-3 shift, turn stage one back on, for 300Hp total. I'm working from the physics principal, "a body in motion tends to stay in motion." Testing has shown the engine can tolerate a 100Hp shot at the moment of inertia. I hope to enjoy the ride for the next two stages. I want to find out what happens. I hope you have a great day.

Rarely do engines make 2hp/cubic inch. Your lucky if they make 1hp. Any v8 making 1.5hp pr inch is running at 100% efficiency. Unless you have a v8 that spins 18000rpm and the latest F1 technology. 65% efficiency is normal with pump fuel.

      🤣🤣🤣"Rarely"??? "Lucky"??? "Any"??? "18000rpm"??? "F1 technology"???
Are you serious, or are you trolling??? V8 engines of multiple flavors routinely eclipse 1-1.5 and 2hp/cubic with FAR less than F1 technology. With today's current technology available to everyone with a pocket full of money, even a big effort pump gas engine running on 93 octane unleaded will produce power levels that START around 1.7hp/cubic inch. It certainly isn't cheap, but it's been done time and again.
My street driven (on VP-C14) 417ci W8 small block makes 2.17hp/cubic inch @8200rpm, with time slips that verify the dyno sheets and it's far from a maximum effort build as we gave up around 100hp in order to extend it's life in a street driven environment. Had we built it to run on pump gas, we would have targeted the 1.9 range as that output has already been accomplished with our cubic inch/head/manifold combination.

Hi sir, my little 318 Magnum is in the 525-550 range right now. It's mostly stock with a cam and good head gaskets / studs to keep the heads down when I smash it with boost. I've just about maxed out the GT45 due to some boost leaks at 21 psi and this stock bottom end engine is still in one piece. I made 18 passes in two days at an event last year. This year it's time to fix the leaks and put a larger turbo on it to test the 318 out. There's a 360 LA roller cam Savoy with a giant T6 turbo that puts down around 850 hp on YT, but he sees a little cap walk at that level. I think with the proper controller you could spray a 318 with a 300 shot no problem.

Hey I got a 72 d100 I’m learning on. Just wondering what stuff you got done to the engine. Everyone’s telling me to do a 360 swap but I don’t want to. I want to keep it numbers matching and build that 318 to turn heads. What do you have for recommendations for heads, cam, intake, carburetor? It’s my first project so I’m still learning, just needs some guidance. Want to prove everyone wrong about the 318 haha. Thanks.
