Thats fair. I could see if being useful for that. I'll still personally stick with my phone and the Kishi for my remote play, but to each their own. All that matters at the end of the day is getting the product that fits your needs and makes sense for you.
Same for me. However base on my experience with their remote play software on PC and Android, I am worried about bugs and the resulting gaming experience. First of all, the latency and network glitches can ruin the game experice if the game you play is not that tolerating to losing connectivity and reconnect. I also experienced some other bugs like the Adjust Display Area screen keeps popping up if my projector is off.
@@GarrettCrespoMy problem with using phone is that I uses phone for so many things, so that the overhead of attaching/detaching the controller really prevents me from using it more frequently. Also the phone screen isn't big enough for the game I play.
Thats fair. The screen size is definitely a concern. And needing your phone for more than gaming is a totally valid concern. I'm definitely going to hold off on making anymore videos about this thing until it's out and in the hands of reviewers because I did not expect the division this video would cause! lol

Yeah. I love watching these preliminary videos because we all know this thing will be an absolute hit and most creators WILL reverse their stance once it comes out. I agree the no Bluetooth is anti consumer though.
I’m fully prepared to make a follow up video for whatever outcome we get. I don’t think I’ll be reversing my stance on it because I definitely don’t get the point of it, but I’ll gladly admit that I was wrong if this device is actually better than any other game streaming accessory that’s come before. Time will tell.
I don't find the lack of Bluetooth anti consumer though but that's just me. If we look at it in a different perspective, Sony is trying to create a seamless ecosystem where certain issues such as latency, lags and all will be less than having other form of connectivity. In this case, completely omitting Bluetooth and pushing their PlayStation Link will definitely excel on the PlayStation Portal which relies solely on internet connectivity. Bluetooth has never been a latency free connectivity no matter the latest version and it is known to increase when you are using other wireless connectivity as well. So, I feel that Sony took all these factors into consideration before launching the Portal.
It is also clear to me that Sony never wanted to create a handheld game console but just a PS5 extension which you can carry around should you want to play your games when being away from the actual console or unable to use the TV.
@@GarrettCrespo I think they can add bluetooth and cloud-streaming support via software update at any time if its necessary. I dont understand why there is such a big wish for a PS-Vita 2. You cant take the hardware from a PS5 and put it into a handheld-device..thats impossible if you dont want to pay 2000+ €. Project Cronos, the new streaming architecture from sony is on the way and thats a big step into the future. Cloud streaming with 4k resolution and no latency. Im watching movies via Bravio-Core lately and its amazing. I tested the Steamdeck and the ASUS Rog Ally and my experience with AAA-games is not good. Hight temperature, low fps and lets dont speak about the battery life.
When done right, streaming is the future.

@@gaxy7724lol no it's not, handheld hybrids are the future, handhelds are evolving and as the technology becomes more and more known about, the more you will see hybrid handhelds taking over, although the switch needs an upgrade, why do you think the switch sold so well, even more then the 8th generation of consoles and outselling ps4 which is a HUGE testament to what actually is the future and what isn't, and remote play is dog shit, I have a ps5 and own a vita, it is dogwater and will never be the future of gaming
This should have some form of local play. Probably the classic games from PS1, 2 , 3 and the og PSP. Make those run natively and have cloud streaming + remote play for PS4 and PS5 games. That would be a good deal for $200

@@yoplait3256 The word you are looking for is "approximate" not replicate. A dualsense and an 8 inch tablet does not have the same form factor as this device and it prob won't have the same performance.

Oh please remote play on the iphone or ipad is not the same as it lags with high speed games being played so the Portal will eliminate that latency issue and will be much better with response time so its so much better to play on the playstation portal!
What do you mean? Everything I read indicates that it’s still gonna be over wifi. So there would be no difference in latency. WiFi is WiFi. The portal won’t make it magically faster
@@GarrettCrespo what I mean is that the hardware inside of the Portal will be more compatible with games being played using remote play than on an iPad that it’s not really made for PlayStation games…it just uses a remote play app so you can stream the games but the hardware itself on the iPad is not really tuned to be playing all the games smoothly. So I’ll like 100% sure that the Portal will have a chip to eliminate that lag “latency/response” issue when using iPads or iPhones etc…The PS5 uses WiFi and there’s no lag whatsoever when I play using WiFi on my TV but if you were to use a TV that doesn’t have a good response time then you will see the latency issue!
That’s not really how latency works. It’s the same as streaming a live video on twitch or RUclips, but with the latency reduced due to it being on a local network. There is no such thing as a “latency reducing chip” that’ll solve the problem. The only way to do that is to create a dongle for the PS5 that establishes a dedicated point-to-point connection to the Portal. That being said, I hope that this thing is at least on par with what we currently have with Sonys current game streaming. Also, what do you mean there’s no latency using WiFi on tv with PS5? Are you streaming your PS5 to your tv over WiFi, or am I misunderstanding?

It has a audio jack and that's more than my Samsung phone has.
It actually looks like such a cool piece of kit, as a casual trophy hunter I ordered one yesterday, I've been using my Samsung Tablet S7+ for the past couple years which has been decent but the Portal looks like a proper gaming experience, all packaged into one screen and controller but let's see if its more of the same it will be going straight back lol 😅🇬🇧
I pre-ordered mine do to all the negative thoughts about it. It hasn't even been released yet and it's already being shut down.
I do hope I’m wrong to some degree. This has potential, but people saying it’s “purpose built” so there won’t be any lag are also making assumptions about a product that hasn’t been released. I was just trying to form an opinion based on what we already know from hands on videos. If I am wrong, I’ll make a video and own up to it. Time will tell.
@GarrettCrespo In my eyes it's a win-win scenario. If it fails, I still have it to use for whatever purpose I see fit. If it is successful, then it was worth it. Nothing against you. I respect what you had to say. Yet I believe in waiting until you get your hands on it to make judgment. I think it's gonna be a hit. You'll see all the people who have negative thoughts about it will be the same ones purchasing it.
Fair enough. I will be curious to see a teardown of this too. Maybe some rooting or homebrew software will come to it at some point.
It’s great for what I need it. My son and girl love watching stuff and I remote play on my iPad. But with the controller attached and them saying they fixed the latency is great
For me it perfectly fits me. It maybe dog shit for you because it maybe live single or have multiple tv. For someone who has one tv and a son and women who I have to share my tv with and work this is the sweetest thing. Because I can be in the bedroom and play or at work on break and continue my games I was playing. So this is your opinion and don’t buy it then.
If your situation fits the use case for this device, then by all means, get it! This was just an opinion piece, so I do agree that it is just my opinion. But I appreciate you at least watching the video to hear my opinion.😁
I pre-ordered it. It has a perfect use case for me at home. Especially when having kids and other persons in my household that want to use the TV.
Tech specs and prices are debatable, but there is a use for many.

Sony won't make a ps vita 2 as it takes resources away from the ps5. Would you rather pay for an expensive device or a device that focuses on what sony wants?
Ideally both. We had hella great accessories for the PS3 back in the day and still got the Vita alongside it. What’s different now?
@@GarrettCrespo The Vita had lack of support and they stopped making first party titles for it 2 years after the PS4 dropped. I don't think Sony can focus on two gaming devices at once. I can see why they wouldn't want to put out a PS Vita successor. The PlayStation Portable seems more idea.
It would be worthwhile if it could be used as a second player screen like the Wii U pad, but that would need the games designed to do that.
Not buying the Playstation Portal is the result for not buying the Playstation Vita which only sold 15 million out of 88 million PS3 and 118 million PS4. Playstation is scared of making a dedicated expensive handheld. A true handheld would be more than the PS5. A Vita successor will sell less than the Vita because the price.

Well… the WiiU controller could actually be used for other things beside remote play and we are not even clear if you can use it for multiplayer games… so yeah…
Don’t buy it come don’t want to be stuck in my room. So this is great for me to sit an lounge in my living room.
I'm not a tech person at all, but a friend I work with seems to believe that Bluetooth is absent on the Portal because it would interfere with PS Link - apparently the Portal will use PS Link when the Portal is close enough to the PS5 reducing the burden on WIFI...

I appreciate the thoughts and opinions. I personally wish it was more like the Vita cause that's one of my all time favorite consoles. However, I will definitely be grabbing one of these, there are cheaper options like the kishi, but I just don't want to mess with that. This is a nice dedicated option that will fulfill my needs. Sony products have always been high quality and I trust even with an LCD screen that the quality will be very good. I found myself doing a ton of streaming to my Vita from the ps4, and i never jumped on the steam deck train. This can narrow that gap!

Interesting to see different point of views. I think this is not for you if you don't have the PS5 yet and need to add the cost of that. I think it is a great accessory for playing my PS5 games on the go, and no, I don't want to be playing a reduced version of a game ported and adjusted to work on a portal device. I agree regarding the OLED, but there must be a reason to that besides cost. I also won't be surprised if they push software updates to this in the future and use it as a vehicle to push PS Now. Who knows.
why is recharging a controller so hard for people? I keep hearing people complain about having to recharge their ps5 controller after or during a play session. whats the big deal?
It's not the recharging that bothers me so much. The bigger thing is that it is a nightmare to replace the battery. My first PS5 controller's battery died and wouldn't take a charge and it was a nightmare to replace it. Why couldn't Sony make it serviceable in the case that it does die?

It’s already stem deck and switch, them making a hand held just to make us pay for low quality games we have on ps5 /ps4 is A BIGGER CASH GRAB than this will ever be . I love my Ps5 and I love the idea of being able to play away from home without using my Phone or laptop .

Ok. It’s a $700 gaming experience that Nintendo already tried with the Wii U. But now you can play PlayStation games. And being an accessory still doesn’t excuse the lack of support for regular Bluetooth headphones.
That wasn't a reply. Sorry. I just don't understand why Sony decided to go with this instead of making a proper handheld. I don't feel like anyone was really asking for an accessory like this, but tons of people would LOVE a modern Playstation handheld.

I mean I think it's a dumb idea and there are other solutions to the issue but if you really want it buy it. Just know a $13. clip can also solve your problem. 🤷♂️
tbh wait till the retailers selling it try to sell it for $100 out of desperation to get rid of stock, it happened with the PS4 OLED back pedal macro thingie, and it happened with the PSTV. Once it gets dirt cheap the homebrew community may have found something cool to use it for.

Bluetooth infamously has crazy latency with gaming. you either need a big ass dongle or APTX technology in both sending+receiving devices. The PS link stuff seems to be a step beyond, also they provide planar magnetic headphones for 150 bucks... those are usually at least 399 all the way to 1200 bucks for good ones. Pretty unfair criticism if you ask me.

No. The specs say that it’s a 60hz screen. So that’s a 60fps 1080p cap
Its the point that its own dedicated device to be used with remote play & for those worried abiut Bluetooth im confident a company will make a dongle so we csn use any headphone or speaker

I pre order it cause I can’t be in the same room where my ps5 is in cause of my son and when iam he’s in it too using the tv . Don’t have game pass ,don’t have time to go back and play older games. I want to catch up on my back log on ps5 and I don’t plan to take it out of the house since im always the driver and not going to be playing games when I’m out and about .what I do really hate is that it doesn’t have Bluetooth but I guess I can use wired head phones .

Honestly i only pre ordered it cause im curious about it. I bought every single Playstation handheld and gaming system i could get my hands on i love Playstation. One of the first gaming systems i ever got into, so im really curious on how this thing will be.
Hopefully remote play on the portal will be a better experience than on the iPhone. Because it’s just laggy on the iPhone.

@@ricoxkiller last time I checked, you can use a bunch of different Bluetooth audio headsets with either consoles so I have no idea what you are talking about
@ricoxkiller That is true, but having the audio playing through speakers is more acceptable on a stationary home console because you're not expecting to have them out in public. The only reason I connect headphones to my home console is because I need a mic for multiplayer games. But I use wired for that. My Switch on the other hand always has a pair of bluetooth headphones paired to it when I take it out with me, and I heavily critiqued the Switch back when it didn't support bluetooth connectivity for headphones.
@@wendellgreenidge3362 I have the razer blackshark pros. And guess what? They use a dongle because Playstation does not natively support Bluetooth out of the box. And neither does Xbox and neither does the PS Portal.
@@GarrettCrespo The Bluetooth is the because con of the system AS IT IS DESIGNED AND FOR ITS PURPOSE. But you also have to see it from a latency point of view. Bluetooth doesn't provide latency free experiences. But I do agree it'd be nice to have wireless while out.
Folks need to stop comparing this to the switch, steam deck or ps vita. It's not a handheld console. Sony made it very clear that it's a remote play device dedicated for remote play from the PS5. It's not for everybody. I pre ordered it because with work and my kids, I don't always have the time or energy to sit behind a console for hours. To be able to play remotely from my room while the kids watch TV instead of using my phone and a controller is a perfect solution. When you realize that this device is primarily designed for home use you'll start to understand why they didn't go all out. It's meant to be simple.

I mean, I referred to it as an accessory multiple times in the video. My only point on the handheld part was that I felt like it was a missed opportunity. Thats all.
@@GarrettCrespo I do think they should of allowed you to put a couple games on the system to play offline. When WiFi not available like a campaign mode or something like that. Non the less for what I’ve seen online and utube. A lot of people have pre ordered as soon as it’s available to pre order in stores end September I’m getting mine as I get a 20% discount from my employer so even more of a bargain.

I have been remote playing using the new ps5 controllers on my ipad which runs smooth for the past year or so. I even bought those ipad holders so I can play it while lying down on my bed, plus we have 3 TVs at home so defintely this product aint for me.

Just imagine if it had storage, could play offline games, backward compatible to play Ps1 games, could play mp4 movies from storage to keep your kids busy on journeys, Homebrew-able to play emulators from Super Nes and N64, these would be in so much demand they couldn't make them fast enough, they would be sold out in one day. But. Because it can't do any of that, i wouldn't buy one, they messed up with this..
The biggest issue is the fact that you can already do this on other devices, why buy something for 200 when you already have devices that does the exact same thing.if i can remote play on my laptop or tablet, those screens are wider and better, why bother with this at all.
It's 200 bucks and i can play without kicking my wife off the tv, yeah sign me up. Wifi is everywhere these days so not an issue unless your camping in the middle of death valley.
I agree I think it's going to be a big waste of money, being tied to the PlayStation 5 only and no Bluetooth is not good. I am going to stay with what I have which I am happy with which is the backbone controller which gives me a choice of whatever I want with Bluetooth, which sounds great with my Sony ns7 neckband surround sound...
In the backbone I use my Sony 4K stereo speaker phone with 120 Hz.😊 Nice.
At least Logitech g Cloud I can get 8 hours of psplay. Im satisfied with the G Cloud I can play both PS4/5
I'm actually content with mine, I know I should not have expected a PS Vita succesor, but it also means I should not face super b titels such as COD: Declassiefied or Resistance: Burning Skies.

They not dumb. They know people will not like this device and that it will not sell much and it will be a D.O.A. Device. They know that would be the same case even with an OLED display. So might as well put an LCD display on it since it’s going to flop anyway.
I’m sorry, but don’t tell people not to order something just because it’s something you don’t care for, in my household, it would come in handy to be able to have a handheld device that I can sit on my couch and freely play my beloved games on my PS five. I rarely if ever get time with the TV, so this would really help with that. Love it for what it is and stop hating it for what it isn’t.

Tears of the Kingdom is amazing, but everyone has their own taste. Spiderman is great two, but these are two very different types of games.
The screen size is a valid point, but if you judge the quality of a game by the resolution, that leaves out a lot of great games.

Tears of the kingdom is nothing compared to god of war and probably Spider-Man 2. Pretty sure Sonys got the edge on exclusives.
I agree that God of War and SpiderMan looks way better on the PS5, but I can play Tears of the Kingdom on a flight or while riding in a taxi while traveling and not have to have a wifi connection all the time. Thats why I mentioned it in the video. But time will tell how this accessory will be received.

Not sure why people kept saying Nintendo was a bad company, they made mistakes sure but not as bad as most people made it out to be. Unless you're not doing anything illegal on a supporting system that they still sell or violating the rights of their IPs then you should be okay. All companies are like that and their customer service had been really great. Sony isn't a bad company either but they had been doing many mistakes as of late, hopefully they recovered with the PS6.
It's not that kind of stuff that I think makes them bad. I get defending your IP. It's when they shut down a game service like the 3DS e-shop and then go after people for trying to find ways to keep the games around so Nintendo doesn't just kill the games off. Thats where I have an issue with them. If Nintendo is clearly ok with letting an IP die, they shouldn't care if the community puts the effort in to keeping it alive. Unfortunately, that's not the case and they do everything they can to take those community efforts down, even if it kills the IP in the process.

Come on. It is ur psp portable. For battery use a power bank and you are good for ever. And it is the first Gen. I'm sure will be much better on the next one.

Portal is not for everyone, absolutely this is for ps 5 users & only for ps 5 user with certain conditions in their life such as cant use their tv or often in another place but he has ps 5 in their home. This is what sony aim for this accesories, because they have remote play app. Most people cant see this because of the hanheld hype of steam deck, ally, legion go etc & they comparing portal with all that device.

Back bone is 100 but you have to have phone with small screen for the extra 100 you get great screen 8inch with Sony dual sense controller which is 50 no brainer so don’t really see your point on economics and value for money
Stop crying about the price ps5 backbone cost £100 . Apparently this product needs only 5mb download speed to be good and you get a big screen for £200 .

Very true. Just one thing though. This isn't a review. It's an opinion piece with a conclusion that I came to because of my extensive experience with remote play gaming and cloud gaming. But I will be interested to see how this thing is received and how it performs once they start getting into peoples hands.
