Knee replacement is a fairly common yet specialized surgical procedure in which a diseased or damaged joint is replaced with an artificial joint called an implant.
Made of metal alloys and high grade plastics (to better match the function of bone and cartilage, respectively), the knee implant is designed to move much like a healthy human joint. Knee replacement techniques and instrumentation have undergone numerous improvements, leading to the use of smaller incisions. Such improvements may result in less trauma to soft tissue.
If you know of someone who had a knee replaced even 5 years ago, the surgical procedure used today is likely to be quite different . . with better outcomes.

Had this done 3.5 weeks ago. so happy I did it.
I just had my right knee done with this procedure and my left knee was done last year the first one went great and so far I’m doing good with my right knee and it seems to be coming along better than my other knee at this point. My advice to any one suffering in pain get it done you will have better quality of life. I stopped pain meds 3 days after surgery and occasionally taking Tylenol and by day 4 I hardly use a walker but I keep it around just in case because your knee will be week for a few months. One of the most important things about this is you MUST do your physical therapy because if you don’t you’ll regret it.
G man, I had a similar experience to yours except, my Mako surgeries were 14 weeks apart. Thank you for emphasizing the need to do the Physical therapy. To keep the flexion at or above 120, I would add that the exercises in between therapy sessions and on going after 14 weeks are critical. I never needed the extreme (hydrocodone) pain medication. My level of pain was always between 0 and 2. I do recommend taking something for pain at least 1 hr before therapy sessions so that the Therapist can work and stretch the knee a bit harder to get to the goal flexion. Other recommendation..keep moving and walking right after the surgery, it makes it feel better and helps stretch and strengthen the muscles? God bless you and anyone considering this surgery...I am extremely pleased with my outcome.
I had a mako total knee replacement on October 25 and I feel wonderful
Will be having a total knee replacement next month God willing.
Getting my knee done in 3 weeks w the robotic surgery
I am having Mako TKR on my rt knee December 2019. Had traditional TKR on my left knee 3 years ago with great results. I am hoping this outcome is as good or even better than the last one
How is your knee now? Great result?
Glad I watched this after! Just had my 3rd knee operation on same knee.. 1st mcl acl repair.. 2nd precursor 20 years ago called osteotmie ( spelling) ..3rd New knee using this system. Im on day 14. Important to say I had to have a plate and and 5 screws removed also.. plus have rod in my femur that was not for sure if had to remove.. Doc said with robot he could do, but no way he could have free hand like old days... Ok so day 14 doing good! On day 2 I went out and irragated.. was up walking 2 hours after operation over.. Fcking Amazing the shit our body can take and heal from...

May I ask whether the Mako operation is done under local anesthesia?
usually spinal anesthesia with Monitored Anesthetic Care using minor sedation to keep you sedated during the procedure. Much safer than general anesthesia...no endotracheal tube.
Used a spinal block on me with sedation.. Huge for me as reg anesthia makes me puke like hell! I was golden.. and they keep this pump nerve blocky thing going for 3 days.. most evasive but less painful surgery ive ever had
Hello, It is interesting. I am impressed. How much would It cost ? I have been thinking about Mako Robotic Arm ....like that for my Future knees. I am no ready...not yet. I learn it...something from it. It is New to Me.
This will cost about 40T..
@@queenofthesmilevanngeelee8592 is that USA dollars
The mako is done under general anesthesia
That is incorrect - had both mine done in April & August 2021 - it’s only spinal numbing and sedation is similar to a dental extraction. Surgery was at 7am and I was home by 3:30pm both times
Correct. Spinal
How much for full replacement

The robot assisted is great for docs who don’t perform a lot of knee replacements. You want them to have this tool. But I’d rather have someone who has done hundreds, thousands of them instead (like my amazing doc and although other knee surgeons predicted problems because my leg and knee were so messed up, I’m getting along beautifully!). Then there’s no point in spending the millions of dollars for this machine. But for the docs that only do 10-20 a year, it’s great but doesn’t pay for itself.
The doctors that I know that use this do a ton of joint replacements and they love what they are able to do with this.
Dreemsnake - then you understand nothing about the system! The robot ensures that only the correct amount of bone is removed and when you're talking millimeters the robot is absolutely necessary! Suggest you learn more about the system before making stupid comments.
