Blurb:
After helping my steady dragon Zav with his family problems, I thought life would get back to normal. As normal as it can be when you’re a hit woman responsible for hunting down bad guys.
That was before a strange artifact showed up in a bog and turned my ancient dwarven sword into a magical beacon. Now my enemies can sense it from hundreds of miles away. More than that, every club-toting, over-muscled orc, ogre, and troll who would like a magic sword can sense it.
Usually, fighting off opportunists wouldn’t be a problem (they don’t call me Ruin Bringer without reason), but even I can only handle so many attacks at a time. And Zav isn’t as much help as you’d think, since he’s busy on a quest for a ring.
No, it’s not a Lord of the Rings kind of quest. My boss put it in Zav's head that since we’re mated in the dragon way, we should also be married in the human way. Now, he’s off to find the perfect engagement ring. Given his taste in human footwear, I may be in trouble for more reasons than my marked sword.
Not only is there no chance of my life getting back to normal any time soon, but if I can’t figure out how to fix my sword, I’ll be dead long before I can get married.

I'm a 61 year old ex British Army veteran suffering from PTSD who loves books about magic, myth and majesty. I was introduced to these genres by my mother when I joined the army in my teens as a way to past the time travelling between home and my base of operations - she started me of with David Eddings 'The Belgariad" and I haven't looked back since. I've recently started reading Mist & Magic( prequel to Death Before Dragons series) and am also listening to Sinister Magic. From what I've heard and read so far, you possess an amazing talent for writing and entertaining your audience. To this effect I've now obtained all the books in this Death Before Dragons series along with Agents of the Crown, Dragon Blood, Heritage of Power, Swords & Salt, Forgotten Ages, Chains of Honor series' and Degrees of Delusion; which I have now doubt will bring me a lot of enjoyment for a considerable time. I’m so impressed by the character development, the well organized story building, and I like that they’re not so graphic that my teenage self would have been shocked though I’m a grandma of 4 preteens kids. Love the actor reader!! I tell people about your stories!

Same here maybe you could suggest doing it to some other authors you know with some of their old books as a way to introduce them to new readers as well as making a little pin money from titles that are out off print

I agree, until the 15 year old daughter comes in, and then she is just as annoying as most writers lead characters. I have 3 daughters, they don't have to be as aggravating as Amber. She could have problems and insecurities without being annoying. ❤

I've never read it a whole book that I can ever remember, and I haven't listened to many by way of audio either but when I discovered book one of death before dragon I was immediately hooked and trapped into the entire series. I will gladly pay the $40 for listen to the last 2 on audible. *I assume that after 3 months if they are not up yet they probably won't be. Way to pull us in & get us hooked to the series long before we need to buy the last 2 to find out what happens. Very smart business move & still very generous! I will start the next series u have up when I'm done & probably buy the last of those books too. Great writing & WONDERFUL narrator, really she had a different voice, accent or personality for each character. Absolutely brilliant! However after listening thru 6 books of Val & Zav fighting, flirting & falling in love I wouldn't have minded a steamy love scene or 2. I was very disappointed when it just cut to them waking up. But other than that great series. I've listened to like 70 hrs of ur writing & still want more.
Thank you for these amazing books, really helped and made me laugh. I'll have to listen to other series now, and can't wait, but i will miss Val and her wit, but I have this to listen to first and im excited.

I just bought the kindle edition because my son objected to the steamy scenes when he walked into the room, Ha! Ha! Interestingly kindle says it takes people an average of 5 hours to read while the audio version is 10 hours, so I guess if you want to savor the story, the audio will give you twice as much enjoyment (if you don't have a son who keeps walking in and getting embarrassed). I'm loving the series, so thanks so much Lindsay for putting these out there for free for us! I never would have discovered you otherwise!

I love this series. Each volume brings new and greater challenges for our favorite heroine. I enjoy watching as she grows in her magic it is her keen wit and even her (humanity) that saves her again and again. I look forward to future volumes in this series, from my new favorite storyteller.

Love the series and Can't wait for Secrets of the Sword II and III, Then my world will be complete. 😂👍oh hope you have Myst and Magic too. That would be amazing! It's part of the series but not shown as such. Oh well it took me forever to go through dozens of books to find that one. It's Sendari's Story.
This series just keeps getting better and better. So glad Val and Zav are finally engaged in the human way...lol. I like the idea of this little mini series inside the original series. So on to Secrets of the Sword 2.
