St. Brendan the navigator was born in Ireland and ordained a priest at the age of 26. Brendan is primarily renowned for his legendary journey to the Isle of the Blessed as described in the Navigatio Sancti Brendani Abbatis (Voyage of Saint Brendan the Abbot) of the ninth century. Many versions exist that narrates how he set out on the Atlantic Ocean with sixteen monks to search for a land of promise. On his trip, Brendan is supposed to have seen Saint Brendan's Island, a blessed island covered with vegetation.

St. Brendan was the first man to come to where I live, the Faroe Islands, in 550. The vikings came here in 880. A lot of places here have Irish names, from the Irish monks that lived here until the vikings came.

Not wo long ago Ogham writing was found on a stone in I think Virginia. Ogham is an ancient form of Irish writing. This would indicate that St Brendan and his monks were there.
