Ep.12 | Visiting the Tomb of Imam Naqshbandi in Bukhara: The Naqshbandi Order

The Imam Naqshbandi mausoleum complex is one of the most important Muslim sites located about 12 Km from the center of Bukhara city. This tomb is always crowded with pilgrims from all over the world, especially from the Naqsabandiyah Order. Bahauddin Naqshbandi or known in Indonesia as Sheikh Bahaudin Naqsyabandi is a theologian and a well-known Sufi figure who is highly respected by many Muslims. He was also the spiritual teacher of the great ruler of Uzbekistan, Amir Timur. His teachings, which always urge to be simple and refuse luxury, have become an example for many Muslims.
Sheikh Bahaudin Naqsyabandi has a lineage from the Prophet Muhammad through Sayyidina Al Husain RA. He died in 1544 and 155 years later a mausoleum was erected over his grave. One of the rulers of Bukhara at the time ordered to build tombs of great men and khans around the tomb of the theologian. According to the beliefs of the people of Central Asia and their followers, if the pilgrims come to this tomb three times, it is equivalent to a small pilgrimage to Mecca.
