I had trouble getting front off of the door. I was really afraid of breaking off tabs and being unable to put the face plate back on. I just pried carefully and more forcefully and it finally came off. No big deal. The instructions were fine besides that. Mission accomplished! Thanks.
I had the exact same issue as apjones8410. Rigging up a home made bracket is beyond this "joe's" ability. My question is How do i replace the whole housing that the hinge pin bracket was molded to? My Fridge is exactly like the one in the video and one of the mounting holes that the pin goes through is busted off completely. Do I have to replace that entire housing now because of that one broken part?

at 4:42 you mentioned the mounts attached to the main housing. the problem with my dispenser is the right mount is broken off, so the pin just falls loose and the repair kit does not fix this issue. its part of the actual housing thats broken. is there any way to fix this? searpartsdirect did not have the housing listed as available to buy. but i dont want to replace an entire housing for one stupid plastic mounting.

Thank you. The video was very informative. I was able to replace all the parts including the replacement housing. However, the right side bracket of the metal replacement housing is open to the top whereas the old plastic housing is closed. Once I put everything in and back together, the ice dispense door sealed nicely, but when I pressed it to dispense the ice, the pin slipped out of the right side and the door came loose. Can you tell me what I need to do to keep it in place? The tinnerman clip did not come with the parts kit, but I was able to find something at the hardware store. The problem is the brackets that hold the post are now further apart and there is not enough room to place the clip. I tried multiple times and was not able to get it in place. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Brian Powers Did you replace this kit, the one in the video or did you watch this video for a different part? This kit does not include any metal housing, so I am not following you. You can also post the problem along with the appliance model number on our repair forum and the techs can help you figure out the problem.
The steel pin goes through plastic tabs on the housing that have the holes that hold that pin, the spring also is supported by the pin. If one of the plastic tabs on the housing itself is broken (they should be made out of steel and bolted on, into steel) but what is there to do to fix this problem?
@doctor spaceman, did you find a source for your problem? I could not find anyone that sells the housing. I have a built in KitchenAid...I wonder if any 3D printing companies can make a replacement for a reasonable price...
@@fredmacias8 I did find that there's a kit to replace the plastic moulded in the door original tabs, fixed by cutting them off and then using the kit to replace the tab's function. I didn't need that though bc I discovered after removing the ice dispenser panel the tabs were fine, it was the hardware of the ice dispenser itself which had deteriorated, not the door. I reused some original parts, like the metal bar and spring, and used only part of the ice dispenser kit I bought and it was rebuilt fine and works fine now. BTW the kit was made poorly and the metal bar was too thick to fit the clamp in that same kit! Very bad QC there. I can't recall the appliance part supply I found for that tab replacement kit as I didn't need it after all. But I found it online just by researching a bit. If I have it stored in bookmarks I'll comment here later.
The part I need is not replaced in this video, although this was the part number I was told I needed. My plastic chute is broken. It just hangs down when ice comes out and I have to manually push it back up where it belongs. It’s still attached, but apparently only on the bottom, not the top. I’m not sure how it attaches, so don’t know if the parts replacement shown here would help since you reuse the plastic chute. Because my chute is loose, it is causing the inside door chute and front of the ice maker to frost up. Anybody have any idea what I need to do to fix that problem?

It is most times called a bracket, AP2988571 is a popular one, but please make sure you look it up using the model number to get the correct one.

I have a Kenmore 106.579437 that is just like this Whirlpool except it is stainless with black trim. I purchased the ice door kit but found that the area where the hinge sticks into is broken. What is the name of the main piece that the ice door hinge connects to?

We got one tab or the face plate off using extreme force. The other refuses to unsnap. Even got fingers around the edges while using putty knife. No luck. We are sure it is going to snap in half if we pull any harder. Suggestions? Please help.

The dispenser frame is not sold separate. You can order this kit which comes with the pieces to make it work. Part number: AP3872692

Try pushing down on the frame right above the tab, on the inner corner, it may help take the tension off.
