never be loyal to a brand. nike exists to make money, not to make you a better athlete. they'd murder us to save .05% annually. (i own tons of nikes, i just understand my relationship with the billion-dollar company.)
I love my pair, i was absolutely shocked when i got a notification on my app saying it would no longer be active. We waited so long for this technology.
The most revolutionary thing would be if they made shoes that were actually shaped like normal healthy feet, rather than constraining them into unusual shapes.
Exactly i dont get it,especially with the "hype" barfoot shoes like vivo are having. I used to only have nikes but got knee problems from running. I switched to vivo and its gotten way better. Why does nike have to have those stupid narrow toe boxes 😤
I've owned two pairs of the Adapt BBs. I currently own the Mag-inspired colorway. I think that Nike did create the best version of "self-lacing" shoes with the Adapt technology. I also personally think that the Adapt BBs were also pretty comfortable and did not have the problem of being heavy on feet, like the self-lacing version of the Mags did. Being able to lace up your shoes with your phone or the press of a button was also very cool. All that being said, "self-lacing" technology just doesn't really have any real advantage over manual laces (or velcro or slip on shoes). Couple that with the fact that you need to keep your shoes charged up and have a solid connection with your phone and the overall experience kind of has its own disadvantages over manual lacing shoes. Honestly, I don't really think anyone even really had a problem with manually tying your shoes and the Mags in BTTF were mostly just something that was cool rather than a solution to a real problem. I still think the shoes were a cool idea and will definitely be cool collector's items, but I don't think self-lacing shoes will ever really become the new normal.
Its kinda funny to think the real advantage of self lacing is for disabled/elderly/injured people, and it was solved by slip on "technology". Reminds me how the russians just used pencils in space while america spent millions on zero g pen r&d.
Figuring out how to miniaturize and fully encase the hardware/software into a tight waterproof compartment and then strategically put them in an area of the sneaker that won't lessen the comfort of the wearer is really important but also quite difficult.
Stuff like this serves to illustrate that tech hinged on smartphone apps has an inherently finite lifespan. These would've been far more impressive if the adjustability weren't reliant on internet-based services. Also the app likely served as a way for Nike to collect consumer data, a concerning practice which people are all too comfortable with nowadays.
I find it a bit counterintuitive to use an app to adjust your $450 laceless shoes for 'optimal comfort' It would take you the same amount of time to do so with actual shoes with laces, if not less... so if this product is born out of a need to solve a problem & to make life easier, these sneakers definitely go against this principle.
Yeah as far as the athletic demographic it seems like a superfluous gimmick. But I could see these benefitting someone who has a physical disability and has trouble tying their shoes as a result. Though for the price there's way simpler options.
Nike is out of touch with their consumers. I don’t know who they thought would spend 400+ on shoes based on a gimmick. Jordan retros are already 200, that’s about as far as the average consumer is willing to go

I don't think they're considered a shoe company but seeing all the insane stuff they do like the big red boots or the wavy Vans, I'd love to see a history of Mschf video sometime in the near future.
A big detriment to its performance on the court is how heavy it is, weighing almost double what players are used to. It’s also super hard for shoe companies, even NIKE to put out a new silhouette and have it be popular for lifestyle. People wear dunks, sambas, 1s etc; stuff that was created a long time ago. Not many people are daring enough to stand out. And also, the price. I wonder if going down a size would compensate for the lacing not functioning any more, unless the app was optional and you could still use the midsole buttons
I think it was too ahead of it's time. People ain't ready. I'm sure they'll bring it back in a much improved and light version. Only time well tell! Thank for watching man
They created a solution to something that wasn't a problem. If you can't tie shoelaces, then you're too young, too big or too disabled, and all three have alternatives that are better, easier and allow for more actual independence. No one needs shoes that tie themselves.
Yeah they didn't consider that when someone doesn't want to tie their shoes, there are "sock" options with no laces that fit like a glove and arent expensive. This idea was for a niche market, for people that just like technology and innovation, regardless if it's practical or not.
It's innovation, and having something special, but really, it's more complicated to put on adaptive shoes, with an application, charging the battery, than to tie the laces, which is something we've been doing all our lives and it's not at all complicated.
I have elastic laces on a pair of Nike Drop Type mid and they literally adjust to a perfect fit by themselves. Don't even need to untie them, they easily slip on. This (Adapt) is a complex solution to a simple problem, which was kind of the base ethos of a _lot_ of that fantasy tech from 80s movies.
So far, both Adidas and Nike have proven that putting too much tech in a shoe will be it's own demise. Anyone still remember the Adidas 1 and Adidas 1.1? I think the problem with these two novel ideas is that the tech got too novel that it no longer became practical.
I was about to buy a used pair of the Adapt Jordan 11 for $210 when the announcement dropped. I guess I'll wait for the next self lacing shoes I actually like the look of.
I had a pair of BB 1.0 in the black colorway, not a horrible shoe but if you actually balled in them long enough you could feel the hard square motor under your foot, and that wasn't great to play on. but the tech was pretty amazing at the time of release.
They needed to find a way to mass produce The Mag & “self-lace” shoes already in their lineup. Making them look completely different w/a different purpose for different consumers was a bad decision
I hate the fact that Nike only made a few pairs of the air mags. They shoulda made enough so ever fan of back to the future 2 could get a pair at a reasonable price!! I LOVED THIS MOVIE, my friend who recently passed away went to see it the first day it came out. We were like 11!! 😢😢😢😢
The laces are way to thin, doesn’t matter how thick the padding and tongue are eventually you’re going to feel it digging into your foot especially while playing sports, it would feel like thin metal cables. The laces need to be normal thickness or even thicker for it to work or feel comfortable
BOA lacing system is pretty much a more practical solution. Like yah they dont self lace but they speed up the process a significant amount and also are just more comfortable
The idea is good, but the tech is too expensive. Having an app at all is terrible and inherently restrictive, and these need to be able to last years and years. The tech needs a massive breakthrough to make it feasible for the average person to use.
I have all pairs of ADAPT shoes becuase they are seriously the best. I think where Nike failed was getting the word out and advertising them. To this day, every time I wear my Jordan 11 Adapts, people are shocked to hear they are auto-lacing and that it's actually a real thing. Becuase of how much I like them I actually have 2 pairs of each, one to wear and one for just in case. I'm sad when I got the notice in the Nike app that they are going to discontinue the app, becuase this really makes the experience come alive. If you can get your hands on them I suggest getting them because they truly are the best fitting and comfortable shoes ever made!
Also, because outside of basketball, sneakheads didn't really lace their shoes, it is part of their swag style, and some use their own pair of laces which adds character to the shoe, which you cannot do in this shoe
I have the Adapt BB and Auto Max. Really for the price the tech is cool but the fit isn't great. I don't tie laces any shoe, so they are left reasonably loose. The Adapts are tight without even using the fit tech. Even slightly tightening them meant fatigued feet. They do look good though, but withdrawal of the app takes away 75% of the coolness and you're left with an LA Gear lightup shoe that kids wore in the 90s.
I have a pair of space hippies that use the adapt lacking system, but you just pull on it with your hands, like a bloody savage 😂 Feels so fragile, like im going to break it each time i wear them.
Well glad I picked up my auto max's when I did for a real good price back in 2021and got to experience the self lacing and the app throughout the years, the only downside is they are so tall sometimes I would roll my ankle l other than that they have been great and pretty comfortable.
Add a small winding thing to the BOA lace system and they would be self tightening. It only takes me a couple of cranks to tighten my "laces" A tiny motor could easily do that.
I still have my Adapt bb 2.0 in the mag cw and the black all-star pair and they still function to this day. Was lucky to cop both under retail on GOAT. I try to preserve them as best as possible. And yes, I had to grab a pair of the AJ11's in the legend blue cw, which cost me close to $450 but I had saved up enough goat credit to afford the resell price.
Thank you for replying King. Can you do a vid on the Jordan 7's and possibly 8's? That gen has grown up and all we get is 1's and 4's in thousands of colorways. Is it because they don't have the equipment that made them? Is it production costs? Definitely not a demand issue. They sell before I even get a chance.
I have these, they feel great and are a super cool party trick I'm really sad they didn't take off. Most people just didnt know they exist which I think is part of the problem. Also they are SUPER loud if you adjust them, the entire room will look over at you because of the wirring noise....happened in the middle of my biology final so NO MORE TAKING THEM TO SCHOOL AFTER THAT
People destroyed me on Niketalk when I said this would fail day 1. A battery and motor pulling laces will always weigh more than just laces😂. No athlete wants heavier shoes with more moving parts to break in competition. Casually... you don't want heavier shoes making Dewalt drill noises every time you put them on either. It's a fun movie gimmick but completely impractical in reality
Ngl I’m still salty about them killing this off - went through two pairs of adapt huaraches until the laces ripped (i didn’t find a way on how to replace them which was of course great.) and they’re still the most comfortable pair of shoes I’ve worn
It would be nice if we could get the non self lacing ones again so that normal people who are not wealthy could afford a pair and be able to enjoy having a piece of the fandom. But that would not make big bucks like NIKE would want to make, so we know that will never happen.
Dang. If I was an investor, I would've sunk a lot of money into this shoe because I would've assumed that it would be the next big thing. But this just goes to show that you never know what will work.
Always wanted to buy a pair but making them expensive af, locking them behind the stupid nike rifle app bullshit and never available in stores (atleast not in my eria) didnt help. + i always hated stuff that has to be connected to an app like smartwatches ect. If the app gets no update or bricks your device is usually dead to 🤮🖕
Looking at the shoes, they look good overall to me. Literally never seen one person wearing these on the street. I resold a black colorway of bb 1.0. Not sure why they flopped, especially a Jordan 11. I would guess the price point was too high and maybe they came out when they had other hot shoes out so they went unnoticed.
It’ll come back when the time is right…
I agree and they’ll be much lighter. Price may still be a premium but they’ll be smaller and the batteries 🔋 will be or the right era
Ahead of its time? Maybe

@@RatBürgerSk8Nike has made some great shoes for this demographic. The go fly ease are amazing imo
Nike beginning of the end was not releasing the air mags in 2015. That was money on the table. Ruined the point of the shoe.

But this just goes to show that you never know what will work.
For $700 a pair, it's already dead. No one will shell out $700 on a self lacing shoe.
I have 4 pair. And you definitely can find deals. Got my last pair for less than 200$
@@TheNumbasign2 not really worth it even if its 200.
@@jeimairuzu7056 I don’t know how old you are. But for me to have the type of shoes from back to the future. Was all the experience I wanted.
Why couldn’t Nike just give us air mags and make them a limited general release
Like this is you’ve been calling it AIR mag 😂😂😂
It's ok kuya haha the official name is Nike Air Mag!
The last time Nike innovated anything we only instrested in 40 year old Nike designs
Good work, thanks!

Nice PC setup!
Thanks Gio!
I'm a huge Nike stan but I'd 100% wear the Alien Stompers over the Mags
Always wanted to buy a pair but making them expensive af,
locking them behind the stupid nike rifle app bullshit and never available in stores (atleast not in my eria) didnt help.
+ i always hated stuff that has to be connected to an app like smartwatches ect.
If the app gets no update or bricks your device is usually dead to 🤮🖕
Brother, your audio quality is making my 20 dollar earbuds sound like they cost 300 dollars.
some day in the future, it will become normal, great job foo as always 👏 👍
The shoes are cool, and all but I want the Nike bag with the window from the movie
Team up with Reebok, add an electric pump and a zoom sole onto a pair of Instapump Furies and this is good to go.
Do a history of the air flight 89's cause I own two now.
Those are dope
For me it well be successful if the shoes is affordable in the marker. The problem is too expensive for a shoes.
Tiffany beers speaking reminds me of Robin of HIMYM
I really want a pair bad they’re such a cool shoe i’ll probably end up buying a pair of the bb’s in the mag colorway
i hope to find myself a pair on a backwall 30% off 😎
Stay cool Nacho 👍
Thanks for the upload pimp
I didn't even know they finally built them... Nike marketing clearly failed.
It was never designed as something that would make a lot of money
A Hollywood prop that became a popular item that would not be released for years
