And now the job is done. It was a big job, but overwhelming only if I looked at the growing pile of pulled components on the table. It was quite a heap. My comment below is not well written. I meant to say that I was wondering if there was a video showing everything on the passenger side of the firewall that has to come out, and this video DOES SHOW that. Such a treat to drive with the heat on and not get foggy windows and the smell of glycol and a wet passenger-side floor!

After doing this job can you say if anything was unnecessary to come off? Maybe the driver side can be left intact?

Thank you! I'm done with everything on the engine side of the firewall and was wondering if someone has a video showing everything on the passenger side of the firewall that has to come out. Wow. Looks like I'll be gutting my 1999 VW before the sun goes down!

the quick disconnects at the fire wall, the hose connected at the heater core, are they basically made the same? I have a disconnect on my Beetle they needs replacing, so Im replacing them both. Does it matter if I order the same part for both?

Nope! My wife will just have to do without heat in the winter. I wouldn't make it half way pulling all that out and would be riping and breaking everything out due to utter frustration lol. I don't have the patience to tie my shoes, let alone spend 4 hours digging out the heater core. Besides, we live in Florida.
